When people tell me they've never written a poem before, it's like someone saying they're never drawn before. It can seem intimidating, but it really isn't and there's a style for everybody! Free verse, the ones told in four lines, the ones with only 19 words, the ones with no words at all, limericks, ballads, prose poems. just try to write one and see from there!

What's the hobby that helps you switch off, relax, and forget about everything else?

Hello! I was wondering what suggestions people have for hobbies that don't put any strain on your wrists. I'm realizing a lot of my hobbies strain my wrist (writing, crocheting, cooking, jewelry making, etc) and I'd love to have some things to try that are easier on my wrists. I hike and read and those can be fine but interested in what others are up to!

Hi guys, I need to develop new hobbies that are fun and cool because I am stuck in a daily loop cycle with the same thing repeating, sudden urge to talk to someone or having a partner it's all and i don't want them just because I'm feeling empty so I'm thinking about picking a hobbies and try to do better at them

I know I’m not good I just want to have an enjoyable way to spend my down time. I’m not trying to make a living at it it’s just what I do after work. What is the point for people, especially those who do not practice the hobby they are critiquing me on, who feel the need to point out how terrible I am?

Can anyone suggest a hobby I can do that won't be destroyed by my cats? Any type of stitching, knitting, etc. is out as they can get into the thread/yarn. I'm fearful of jewelry making or diamond painting as they can eat the components (already have had things surgically removed from one cat's stomach). While I do enjoy painting, their little paws leave little paw prints in my paint and all over the house. 🤣

I want something I can do with my hands, but doesn't require intense focus or thinking.

EDITED TO ADD: The reason why I want to avoid any fiber crafts or things with tiny parts is that we have a few too many cats to distract easily. And no, we cannot close the doors. They will scratch consistently until we let them in. If it is not one, it will be a few doing this.

Every hobby seems to have stereotypes that don't really match reality. What's your favorite hobby, and what's something people often misunderstand about it? It would be fun to learn what it's actually like from people who enjoy it.

I am a 23 years old male from Hong Kong. I have been searching for hobbies that I can immerse myself in.

However, I have very short attention span. I get bored very easily. When I am doing anything, if it cannot instantly interest me, I really cannot keep doing it. I will immediately switch to other things, but there are really few things that can raise my interest.

There is really only football which can make me spend long time in it. But I really want to find other hobbies that I can equally enjoy. Do you have any suggestions?

I'll share what mine turned out to be because i think it might help. i make bread. have for two years. every weekend, sometimes during the week, always by hand because i find the machine removes the part that helps.

The reason it makes me feel most like myself is that it requires something specific from me and gives me something back directly. Just the dough and my hands and whether i showed up with enough attention. What's yours and when did you figure out it was the one?

i kept complaining that i had no time after work but then realized i was spending like 2 hours every night just scrolling and not even looking at anything interesting so i ordered a custom diamond art thing mostly because i wanted something to do while listening to podcasts. i’m not really a craft person and honestly thought i’d get bored halfway through the first night i did get annoyed with it at first because the tiny pieces kept sticking to my hand and i somehow put a few in the wrong places lol. but it’s been sitting on my table for a couple weeks now and i keep working on it here and there sometimes 10 minutes, sometimes i realize an hour passed. still nowhere near finished though idk it’s just nice doing something where i’m not staring at my phone the whole time. what do you guys normally do in the evening that isn’t another screen?

A few months ago, if someone had told me I'd spend my evenings placing tiny little plastic pieces onto a canvas, I would've laughed. I somehow fell down the rabbit hole of custom diamond art after looking for something to do that didn't involve staring at another screen. I figured I'd get bored after 20 minutes, but it turned into one of those hobbies where you keep saying, "I'll finish this section and go to bed" and suddenly it's midnight. The weird part is that I don't even consider myself artistic. I can't draw, I can't paint, and I don't have much patience for most crafts. But this one just clicks for some reason. I need to know to not feel weird, what's a hobby you accidentally got into that completely surprised you? Something you expected to try once and never touch again, but ended up sticking with?

Most of the time i just sit and watch music videos. Not always in the background, i mean i stop what im doing and actually watch a League cinematic, K/DA video, Initial D AMV, or whatever the song video catches my attention, doing nothing else.

For that to happen i hunt down best quality video source i can find and same for separate audio, usually FLAC. Then i make folders or put where they belong along with playlists or burn them to DVD / CD

It isnt my main hobby, more like side one as i dont hunt every day.
But im always listening or watching what i collected.

I know that "why dont you use youtube or spotify or etc" is easier but there is something about having the file and putting it folders, its offline no internet dependancy or on disc. Or maybe im just old school?

Is there anything that you wish you would’ve started in your 20s in terms of hobbies that you think would’ve made your 30s more rewarding? Apart from Fitness though because I feel like that one is given.

For context I am a 22yo female with no social life outside of my boyfriend, I know that sounds ridiculous and probably pathetic and reliant but I have always had a hard time maintaining friendships especially with girls my age as I feel like I always stick out like a sore thumb.

I moved in to his family home to work in his town as there were no opportunities in my home town, I work in the hospitality industry so my free time and social time away from work is very very limited, and I often work full shifts on the weekends when my boyfriend has days off so we can’t really do anything productive together like going out for dates or day trips or ever even just pop back home to my town.

I’ve recently found myself slipping into a spiral, almost feels like i’m one minor inconvenience away from losing my head. I need a hobby. One with meaning.

Ive looked into a-lot of different suggestions but none of them really seem to interest me. I’ve been recommended jigsaws and whilst I understand peoples enjoyment of jigsaw puzzles, I see no point in them myself. The cycle of build, destroy, repeat just isn’t for me. I cook a-lot when I can afford to, but it just isn’t possible for me at the moment to afford ingredients or even find the energy after my shifts anymore…

I want something I can show off and be proud of to have for myself instead of just having to start all over again after completing something. I’m a very artistic person naturally and have varying qualifications in the arts and also music so maybe I need to find that swing again..

Maybe sewing? pottery? jewellery making??

edit: I had many hobbies in my younger years (around 11-17) but growing up and trying to figuring out how to survive adult life and manage the stress of everything daily has thrown me for a spin.

I recently returned to horseback riding after a break of over 10 years—basically since high school. Getting back into the saddle as an adult felt incredibly nostalgic, but also completely different with a new mindset and a lot more respect for the process (and the muscle soreness, haha!).

It made me realize how much we lose touch with things that used to bring us pure joy.

Has anyone else re-discovered an old passion from their childhood or teenage years? How did it feel going back to it after such a long time?
