Tai Chi to Qi Gong - Direct Postures Book

I studied Tai Chi for a few years a while back learning direct from someone who studied with Wolfe Lowenthal. I loved it at the time. I wan to learn Qi Gong to see if I can ease some health issues I've been experiencing. I'm looking for a book that's more practical, direct to the postures and how to perform them - what would be the best book for this?

Nightmares after starting practice?

I've recently started engaging in a daily qigong practice, usually about 15-30 minutes in the morning. Overall, it's been really helpful so far, but I've been having some weird experiences since starting.

I've started having vivid dreams nightmares practically every night. Even the dreams that aren't necessarily nightmares still have an intense emotional component to them. Some of it feels like old trauma bubbling to the surface, but not all of it. I end up waking up feeling drained and unrested.

I've also had a couple of moments during the day where I'll have sudden anger or anxiety even if I'd been feeling perfectly calm just before.

Nothing else has changed in my life in the last few weeks other than taking up a qigong practice. In some ways, it feels like old energy is coming up and processing out.

Does this sound normal? Should I cut back or do something different? I'm going to start adding in a regular seated meditation practice, too, to see if that helps.

Ring Meridian specifically ??

What is the significance of the ring meridian (that which connects the lower spine to the front below the belly button in a ring around the body)? Specifically for chanelling energy around it, how does it make you feel? Does doing this complement spiritual progress in any way?

cutting the red dragon

I was wondering if you or anyone you know has tried this technique, and if so how effective it was? I read about it in Ken Cohen's book and am interested because I have a problem with low iron, and I'm looking for a way to stop or reduce menstruation other than going on hormonal birth control. Thank you in advance for any info or thoughts!

What do these symbols mean?

I bought this tapestry from a friend and after posting it to a few subreddits, I learned it’s from a Qigong school. I’m new to practicing Qigong and I’m so curious what these symbols mean/represent. I appreciate any guidance you can offer!

Qi Gong emotional reaction (laughter)

I randomly tried some Qi Gong today because I have suspected long COVID and some people said Qi Gong could be a great gentle activity. Didn't even realise but I started laughing loads after I finished, almost uncontrollably.

Is this normal? I do have quite a bit of complex trauma but it was so unexpected. I thought it would just be like a normal workout.

Need something to battle fatigue

I have an auto immune disease (10 years ago diagnosed) that makes me very fatigued, but will need to get back to work in a few months time. It also impacts my quality of life. Meds barely help. Lately had an immense amount of stress and fatigue with moving houses and my son going through severe depression. It was even heavier after that period. In the past qi gong helped me a lot to keep balanced, but in survival mode of the past months there was no room for that.

Anyone a YouTube video or sequence to help rebuild strenght and energy?

Thank you!

Can't stop being aware of my breathing after Zhan Zhuang, affecting my sleep

Hi everyone,

I’ve been practicing Zhan Zhuang, and I’ve run into a major issue. Even though I focus my practice on physical relaxation and releasing body tension, I find that after the session and especially at night I can’t stop being hyper-aware of my breathing.

It’s like my brain refuses to let my body switch back to its automatic breathing mode. I’m stuck observing every breath, which makes it impossible to fall asleep. Because I have no distractions at night and my brain refuses to let go of the breathing, this state creates heat in my body and makes me feel physically hot, which makes sleeping even harder.

Has anyone else dealt with this? Any advice on how to "switch off" this awareness so I can sleep normally again?

Thanks.

I'm looking for a qigong video which is a good daily warm up and covers lots of body parts.

Unfortunately, I get bored when there are too many repetitions of the same move. Please either convince me that repetitions are necessary or offer a link that meets my needs. Thanks

NEED URGENT HELP QIGONG HEAD DEVIATION.

basically i moved my qi without even knowing what it was thought it would be cool to concentrate it on my third eye. i collected a lot of it in my third eye and suddenly had a thought ... what if it leaves me a fear kinda. and i accidentally directed it outwards and it just kept on leaking and i couldn't stop it. it also feels like the top of my head energy leaks out. i dont feel my heads boundary AND MY HEAD FEELS HOLLOW . one more thing i actually only focused on the left side pf my third eye so its only the left side of my head that i cant feel. any time i push qi up it just kinda leaks. my memory has become worse(really really bad like i have shit short term memory before this my memory was near perfect) along with my ability to focus.also i dont feel the magnetic sensation . on my left side it kinda feels like my body awareness is bare and mechanical on my left side . also the energy that u can normally feel as u move ur awareness up the spine is also not there. this started 2 years ago and ove tried searching a lot. people have told all kinds of things like grounding focusing on dantien etc. but im really interested in getting A REAL UNDERSTANDING OF THE PROBLEM AND NOT JUST USING CHEAP TRICKS AND HALF ASSED METHODS. by this i dont mean that the methods themselves are bad ... just that they take too much time and is very indirect. i WANT TO KNOW HOW AND WHY AND GO DEEP SO THAT I CAN FIX THIS LIKE SOLVING A LEAKING PIPE. I NEED TO FEEL THE BOUNDARY OF MY HEAD AGAIN. i hope ur feeling me . IVE SEARCHED AND EXPERIMENTED ALL KINDS OF THINGS BUT I HAVEN'T FOUND IT IF ANYONE HAS FACED SOMETHING SIMILAR PLZ HELP....im gonna sleep now ill cause its late will reply in the morning and will constantly check until resolved....... this is not a shitpost i guarantee you.

Should I stop or keep going?

Hi!!

I started doing qigong maybe 1.5-2 weeks ago for chronic pain/illness, and just overall wellness. Initially, I was doing some different videos on YouTube, but now I’ve landed on this one that I do every morning: https://youtu.be/VffGERlXRWo?is=XbzaZjBIjL8kOdxf

I like LuChin a lot but my issue is I feel worse everytime I do it. I broke my knee a few years ago and this made it flare up. I’m not sure if I’m just not doing the movements right or if I need to just keep going and it’ll get better? Everything hurts in my body, Especially my neck and quads. I don’t want to make anything worse, but I also have a tendency to quit when things get hard and I know I’m not in great shape so I expect to be sore to a degree.

Any help is greatly appreciated!!

My body lost blood and sodium. Need help rebuilding strength.

I'm stuck on a hospital rebuilding lost neutirents. But have lost so much strength that I can't stand up from a toilet seat. It took a security guard big man to help lift my 119kg body upwards off a toilet seat. Then the hospital put me in a bed with a fall alarm activated.

I know Quigong and or other king fu had the tools needed to help.

Can someone share some videos or direction as I can't stand a hospital forcing me to stay in a bed. When I know the flow of motion is what can build or help them tiny fibers and energy elements we all take for granted.

It is as if I am a grown man with a infants strength.

I'm posting this from my hospital bed. And with some luck... I may be able to sweet tell them onto letting me stand (supervised) next to the bed. But till then. I need to feel something more than laying in a hospital bed.

How long and how often should I practice Qi Gong?

Hi, I want to start practicing Qi Gong. My goal is to feel better, reduce my stress, my depression, my social anxiety, have more energy and motivation, improve my mood, be emotionally resilient, be able to cope with life's challenges, get into the flow state, just feel happy and peaceful in my life.

I practice every morning since 1 week. I do 25 min of moving Qi Gong by Jeffrey Chand, and then 10 min of Zhan Zhuang, so 35 min in total. However I can not feel my Qi yet and my hands do not get warm during practice.

  1. Should I do longer sessions?
  2. Should I practice twice a day?
  3. Should I do more zhan zhuang?
  4. Do you have any other advice?

This is Qigong, to me

Christopher here, with a message written by an actual human!

There's a Qigong move that I love called the merging of the three hearts. It was taught to me in one of the classes I took with the amazing teacher Daisy Lee of Radiant Lotus Qigong.

It connects deeply to the 'why' that Daniela and I bring to all of our coursework, and I think to the 'why' that you are reading this right now.

Deep down, we all want the same thing: to be loved, to share love, and to have some of our energy, our life, be in service to others in a way that is purposeful and meaningful.

At first glance, the word Qigong may seem strange, It's from a different language, a different culture. It has many different meanings, all of which fall short of what it is for me.

Qigong brings me back to my heart. It clarifies my mind. It creates ease in the body. And, Qigong, breathwork, and meditation enable me to show up each day for my work, for my service, and to find the wellspring of Great Energy that I can serve with and from.

All of these practices, no matter what they're called, have brought me back to that place of the merging of the three hearts. The heart of the Universe, the Heart of the earth, and my own beating human heart.

When Daniela and I meet with our students in office hours, review certification videos, read their private and public messages. Our hearts are full, seeing their hearts blossom.

To me, this is living Qigong, this is giving Qigong.

I also want this for you! 🤍💕

Help with cultivating energy

Hello!! I am just getting into qigong and feeling lost with how much information is out there haha. But I would love if anyone has any foundational practices for building energy. I have chronic fatigue (working on it: eating organ meats, doing nervous system regulation, taking care of myself, etc) and I just did an 8 brocades practice and I could just feel my energy struggling so hard. I have practiced yoga for about 5 years and the same thing happens: whenever we get to the standing poses, it’s like all my energy just drains through my feet and I’m struggling against a huge weight. Does anyone have any tips for creating and maintaining energy? I know qigong will be so transformational for me, I can feel it. I just want to do it properly. Thank you in advance!!

How to adapt practice after lower back injury which means limited standing or sitting

Hello lovely folks,

I'm hoping to get some guidance on how to continue my practice with ongoing lower back pain.

Its been a couple of months now, I'm working with a physio, but have gone from relatively fit and active to unable to sit/ stand for more than 15 mins without pain.

I can walk for a similar amount of time. 20mins at a push.

I started qigong for many reasons, but primarily to help with anixety. It's been a massive support in down regulating me and honestly given me the first moments of peace I've felt in many years.

Without it, and because of the limitations I'm experiencing at the moment, my physical anixety is massively spiking again (ie chest pain, tense, agitated, pins and needles/ vibration all over, racing heart etc) . Ive tried really short practices standing, but they honestly feel too much. I will say tapping has been helping a bit.

Any advice on this? What might work? I find it REALLY difficult to sit still in any kind of breathwork without first doing some movement which is why I found qigong after finding traditional sitting meditation and breathwork unaccessible.

My regular practice used to be about an hour every morning, now I'm lucky if its more than 5-10 and I'm in pain throughout.

Can qigong aide Lung cancer patients?

How do YOU conduct the energy ball?

Just curious on everyone's technique for manipulating their own energy, and how they personally conduct things like energy balls and such.

What goes on in your mind? What emotions are there? Are there any physiological sensations like goosebumps or heat?

Understanding how to link wuxing/5 elements to the different seasons

Hi,

I have been doing a bit of qigong on and off (mostly off to be completely honest...) duing the last three years. I have been doing Mimi Kuo-Deemers courses on Onecommune, that is, The Eight Brocades, The Five Sacred Guardians and Mindful Dragon Qigong.

I also bought her book Qigong and the Tai Chi Axis and in this she writes about the five elements and how they each link to different emotions, seasons, internal organs, and so on. My question is this:

How should I understand this linking of the elements to the seasons? Should I primarily do Fire element practices now, since it's summer in Denmark? Should I be mindful of what I'm currently "lacking" at the moment, and then choose some, say, Water element practices if I feel like I'm missing some wisdom? Should I just practice Ba Duan Jin untill it becomes second nature and first go into individual practices at a later stage?

Thanks a lot!

/Jonas

Can qigong help with burnout

Hi all 👋

I posted in trueqigong that I’ve been feeling depleted for years due to a combination of reasons..personal, career, etc. It’s gotten to the point where I’m barely dragging myself through life. Did a lot of things..medication, meditation, walks, therapy (probably could continue with this), reiki, hobbies etc. I still do almost daily meditation.

Someone mentioned that it sounds like I may be ungrounded in my lower energy centers (I might be messing up the wording). I think they may be onto something.

Has anyone done qigong to help them with this feeling of being drained and burned out?

I was also curious about people’s experience with qigong healers for blockage removals?

Side note: didn’t keep up with it but I was enjoying Lee Holdens qigong exercises for awhile. But I think I didn’t do it long enough—not enough to crawl out of my burnout so I stopped

Thank you

for those who think Qigong needs to be complicated....

Myth: "The practices don't need to be complicated to be effective."

Wait, that's not a myth. That's the actual truth. This is why Wuji works. Why Shoulder Breathing works. Why centering works. Complexity isn't the measure of power. Simplicity is.

Let that sink in.

A single breath, consciously taken, changes your nervous system. A single stance, held with attention, aligns your whole body. The practices don't need to be complicated to be effective. They need to be real. You need to actually do them. Not think about them. Not watch a video and nod. Actually practice. There's something special about a beginning, especially if you've practiced for decades, don't you think?
