2 year old Datura, jimsonweed, Devils Trumpet.

I picked up some pothos on deep discount from HEB and a couple are looking rough. I am a plant newbie, and I'd like to invest in rehabbing these babies to encourage vining around my living room over time.

Does anyone have recommendations/edits to my following plan? TIA!

• Repot in slotted nursery pots with Foxfarm Ocean Floor potting soil and ~40% perlite. Stick 'em in cute pots with a plant saucer inside.
• Cut off any fully yellowed leaves(?) or maybe just the browned sections(?)
• Use Foxfarm plant food to spray on as a foliar fertilizer.
• profit?

I'm sticking at least two of these suckers in my dark living room den, so I'm also splurging to get a grow light.

so heb has $5 oak saplings. would it be dumb to buy a couple and just keep them in their pots to plant in say October? I guess if i did I’d only be out $25 but figured I’d ask. thanks!

My next door neighbor trimmed a significant amount of branches off of their 4 oak trees today. I have several oak trees. The whole neighborhood has many 35+ year old oak trees. What do I need to look for early signs of oak wilt? Will the inevitable happen or is the risk lower in late July?

I got this PoB from a local nursery, put it in a sunnier place in my backyard, didn’t water it for days because I heard they are “drought tolerant once established” and light loving so I assumed it would happy. It is not. Each day it gets droopier, leaves get more yellow and they shed. I started watering it more frequently but it’s still looking sadder to the point it looks like it will die soon.

What am I doing wrong? Is it suffering from heat and lack of water? Is this size of plant not considered established? Would it prefer to be planted in the ground? Please give me advice and thank you in advance.

Hi garden friends! First year growing sweet potatoes and trying to mitigate some pests. A couple Qs:

1. What’s the most ethical/eco-friendly way to manage these Aztec spur throated grasshoppers?

2. Based on the photos, could these guys be the culprit of damage pictured, or do you suspect a secondary pest problem (ie caterpillars etc). 🐛

Finally remembered to get pumpkins in early! I put seeds all around my yard to see where they would grow best (they will most likely take over😆) and by far the rocks has the most growth. Any advice? (First time growing them)

We may have thrown some food scraps in that could’ve contained tomato seeds. Just checking before I get too excited. I know tomatoes are a part of the nightshade family so I wanted to check in before someone in my family tries to eat it.

I think this is a Mexican grass-carrying wasp (Isodontia mexicana), super cool to watch. Wasps really are some of the best garden predators and pollinators.

Hi all. I am turning my front lawn area into a mulched area. I do not have too much sun or in-ground plant area due to a very large (and beloved) crepe myrtle. I am looking for a source for interesting yard art to add a bit of interest and whimsy to the space. I am in SW Austin (Oak Hill). Anyone know of some shopping options for something like this I can peruse? I am a regular at The Natural Gardener and they have some options but looking for more variety and maybe a bit less $$$. Would like to see stuff in person but on line if fine as well.

I saw people put carnivorous plants in there’s, but not sure if it’s appropriate for texas weather. I also want to put minnows in it.

Any ideas? Not sure how ethical minnows would be.

I’ve got a row of 10 cherry laurels along my back fence in Austin, in the ground about 2 years as a privacy screen. Nine are doing great, but one in the middle is really struggling. The canopy has thinned out a lot, there are bare interior branches, and a lot of the leaves have gone reddish-brown and crispy. I water them once a week.

Here’s the part that might be relevant: a tree previously died in this exact spot. I moved one from the end of the row to fill the gap, and I’m now wondering if that was a mistake. Otherwise it’s the same soil, irrigation, and planting time as the healthy ones on either side.

I'm getting back into gardening and have been watching a lot of plant videos on YT. Some are about the house plants at big box stores and they talk about how some stores have much better selection than others. The Lowe's on Shoal Creek was small compared to what I've seen in videos. The Home Depot on Mopac/Braker was better but still not great. In the pre-COVID days, the HD at Mueller was better than most but I haven't been back there yet. Do you have to go out to Bee Caves or Lakeway to see the massive selections?
