What tricks do you have for staying safe around truck bros, teens on their phones, the elderly, frat boys in Wranglers, stressed out minivan moms, and other common pests?

I’ve been a silent reader for a while now, so I thought it would only make sense to ask for your advice and opinion. 

Many years ago I found myself very frustrated not being able to find the right bag to carry just a laptop and a few accessories to commute to the office. Carrying a backpack seemed overkill for the few things I would have to bring and I was sick of arriving at the office with a sweaty back. I didn’t want to attach a saddle bag to my racing bike and generally didn’t like the idea of attaching anything to my bike to hold bags. 

So, being a product designer myself, I came up with this laptop frame bag idea. Then I forgot about it until the pandemic hit and I had more time: I built an actual prototype, ordered many samples from a potential factory, lowered the production costs and finished the product to a point I could actually produce and sell it. I even registered it as a utility model. 

Nevertheless, then life happened and I didn’t really publish the idea. The good thing is that I was able to test the sample and its materials almost every day for the past 3 years and can genuinely say that it perfectly works and nothing ripped. Random people ask me what the bag is and show interest, too. The only things I noticed is that it doesn’t work if you are wearing big baggy pants, have X-legs or very thick thighs (even bigger than mine) - not to discriminate. That’s just my observation. 

A couple of specs:

-The main material is neoprene which protects any electronic devices against rain and physical impact as it bounces a tiny bit when riding and is thick enough for a potential crash (relatively, of course)

-The buckles are magnetic so they find themselves very quickly, which makes attaching the bag to your frame quick and easy

-Waterproof zippers

-You can attach a shoulder strap to carry it (for longer distances), e.g. after work

I want to motivate people to commute by bike and not take the public transport or even a car.

Do you think there is demand for a niche product like this to invest money in and then just sell it myself? I would need to produce at least 500 pieces so it would be too big of an investment for me. 
The fact that the material is mainly neoprene doesn’t make it super easy to produce so manufacturing it on demand would be too expensive.

I am just not really a business person so I wondered what the community thinks about the product and its potential. Open for collaboration or potential co-founders, too, btw.

 I was enjoying a road ride when a tiny bug flew straight into my eye and completely ruined the day. My eye became red and painful, and I ended up going to the hospital for treatment. Now I have to use medication and take a break from riding for a few weeks. Protect your eyes—it only takes one small bug to cause a big problem.

Not sure if anything like this exists but I’m looking for an insulated bike bag to keep my lunch cool on my commute. I’ve got a Topeak MTX rear rack and no front bags. I ride with a Topeak MTX bag, but it doesn’t keep stuff cool for nearly long enough. I’m hoping for something smaller than a pannier, but open to anything.

Appreciate any insight.

New apartment has these to secure bikes. I have never seen this style before.

I have this Cinelli and it comes stock with a front rack but it's kind of an odd size. It's just shy of 13" front to back and 10.25" wide. I've been securing my backpack with my laptop and water bottle and other miscellaneous things in it by lying it flat and holding it down with Voile straps. But it's awkward. I lay the backpack length wise front to back due to the orientation of the rack. I've even had a strap pop off on a bump a couple times due to the structure of the backpack shifting around.

So I'm looking for some ideas on what gear I could use to transport a 14" MacBook, a water bottle and have room to spare for the odd couple of other items? Ideally I don't lay the laptop flat so it's not taking loads of vibration against a broad side. I like the idea of a porteur bag but obvious options don't fit the rack well. I know a Wald basket could be an option here but I prefer the profile of the rack. Also, please don't tell me to put the backpack you know where. I want to leverage the rack to keep shit off my back!

Hello, I’m looking for a frame bag that can be taken off the bike easily and ideally used as a regular bag. I’ve been looking for brands and models but haven’t found anything of the sort. I’m looking for something 4+ liters.

Anyone know where I could find something like that?

For anyone looking for a way to carry your backpack or tote bag on your bike, I have a solution. It may look like an ordinary mailbox, but it is more. The two hooks let you hang your backpack from the top grab handle or sling your tote bag handles over the top to attach them on the other side.

Just got a new job that's about a 4 mile ride from home. I want to start commuting via bike. I have a few questions regarding bikes, dealing with heat/sweat when getting to work, and any tips for a new commuter.

• The ride is somewhat hilly, but nothing too crazy. I'm looking at new and used bikes but need to start with a budget. I'm looking at trying to stay under about $250. Do you all have any bikes you'd recommend looking into? Would you recommend going new or finding a slightly nicer used bike?

• How do you deal with the heat and sweat when it comes to commuting to work? Do you just have a change of clothes for when you get to work? Or are there some general practices to make dealing with this easier?

• I've ridden road bikes most of my life, a lot more when I was younger, and I ride a motorcycle, so I'm used to riding on the road with cars and whatnot. Would you all recommend taking dedicated bike paths if they are available or just take whatever path is easiest to begin with (it's been a while and I'm partially trying to use this as a way to get back into shape).

I started commuting to work, which is roughly 5 miles round trip with a bit of hill incline. Overall, I’m on my bike for commuting probs 30 mins total. I know it’s not much but I’m excited to see the overall health benefits in the long run.

I’m currently using the AirPods Pro 2 with Adaptive Audio enabled. I’ve read that the AirPods Pro 3 perform better in windy conditions.

Does anyone know if the D'Lite uses the same stub axles as the Travoy? I'd like to swap out the wheels on my Travoy when I'm using it with my Brompton for some Brompton sized wheels (349 ETRTO). I don't think the D'Lite is that size but I can get the hubs from a secondhand one and rebuild them if necessary

Cannondale SM600 slightly modified . Suntour drive train different bars and levers , low fat pedals I know I got the seat and Blackburn rack at a.bike store in Tucson that I worked at oh , snakebite bottle caged pretty sure that’s a Schwinn brand insulated trunk with zip out panniers.

I now have 2 ghost bikes (memorials to folks who died biking) on my daily commute. They make me take a pause each time and I'd like to develop a ritual for when I encounter them, I'm leaning towards a bell bing, but would like to hear if anyone else has this thought and what they do.

I regularly commute 24km (round trip) and travel at 30 km/hr, I want a helmet that has a lot of protection but also isn’t uncomfortable or heavy, if that’s possible. I’ve never really worn a helmet but I want one just in case I slip. I bike mostly through residential roads that have a painted bike lane

Here's my 100% bone stock Diamondback Sorrento that I will be using for a commuter bike. I added an overly nice Tubus touring rack and dug through our garage to find possibly the world's worst panniers that my wife used when she was in grad school. Most of the places I go to for errands or appointments are within a 10 mi radius of my house and I really want to bike instead of drive bc it is more fun, less aggravating and often times quicker. I also wanted a bike that I could lock up outside of a store while I shopped without being paranoid about it being taken. This bike ticks all the boxes and although I will probably change components out over time (it may show up on xbiking someday :)) for now the stock parts are all in really good condition and work well (the 90's saddle is actually pretty comfortable lol).

I am looking into an internship this upcoming fall and would potentially have a decent trek for biking (~1:30hrs). While also wondering what a reasonable commute would be, I also would love to hear about some of the common issues people have had when starting off your bike commuting journey or transitioning from driving to biking. Additionally, how did you overcome the logistics of carrying gear, sweating, or safety concerns using the resources you had at the time?

I have this Northrock fatbike since january 2024. I use it all the time for commuting, all season (I live in Canada and there is a lot of snow). Now I have some problems with it. The brake get stuck and the cable of the break is rusty. The chain is rusty too. I believe I will be able to repair this but my biggest problem is with the handlebar. When I turn it seem so stuck and hard. I believe it is a problem with the Threadless headset (the bearing and all). The top of the headset seems fine, but the bottom is destroyed.

So now I want to change it but every pieces of Threadless Headset that I see online do not have little balls for the bearing like I did. Is that a new kind of bearing?

And my Fork steerer tube is 1-1/8", so will all threadless headsets for 1-1/8" be compatible?

Do you have a suggestion for good replacement piece?
