Equipment CPSC Warns Consumers to Stop Using OUSPT Full Face Snorkel Masks Immediately Due to Risk of Serious Injury and Death from Drowning Hazard

Description:

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) is warning consumers to stop using OUSPT Full-Face Snorkel Masks immediately due to risk of serious injury and death from drowning hazards. The mask can cause consumers to experience labored breathing, causing loss of consciousness or excess fluid in the lungs that can lead to drowning.  In addition, the mask can give rise to increased levels of carbon dioxide which can exacerbate the difficulty of breathing in the mask.

Field Life, of China, the seller, has not responded to CPSC’s requests for information or to recall the product.

CPSC has received reports from five consumers who had trouble breathing, felt light-headed or lost consciousness while using the product. There has been one lawsuit alleging that the product caused a drowning fatality.

About 84,000 of these full-face snorkel masks were sold from March 2019 through February 2026 on Amazon.com.

The full-face snorkel masks have a glass screen and a breathing apparatus that covers the mouth and nose, with a snorkel pipe at the top center of the product.  They come in various colors.  The masks have “OUSPT” printed on the snorkel tube.

These products are manufactured in China.

CPSC urges consumers to stop using the full-face snorkel masks and immediately dispose of them. Do not sell or give away these hazardous full-face snorkel masks.

Report any incidents involving injury or product defect to CPSC at www.SaferProducts.gov.

Wildlife That moment when a Caribbean Reef Octopus turns electric blue 👀 🐙 Has anyone else ever seen this?

Fun facts: octopuses have three hearts, blue blood, and most of their neurons are actually in their arms. Their suckers can taste what they touch and that electric-blue flash came from reflective cells in the skin changing almost instantly.

Filmed with a GoPro HERO13 Black.

New Kit I need help with new goggles

So I don’t actually snorkel but this is the only place I could think of for advice. I got this mask from Walmart about a week ago simply for pool use and they’re leaking water. I’ve adjusted the strap multiple times ranging from completely loose, less loose, to all the way tight and no matter what it leaks. It seems like the water is leaking from just the outside corner area of my eyes. I’m not sure if the silicone is too flimsy and isn’t sealing properly or if they just don’t fit my face. I would like some advice.

Edit: When I did that test it where you put it on and breath to see if it makes suction it had fit and made perfect suction but when I put it on with the straps the part that goes around the corner of my eyes pushes out, I ended up going to the freedive group and as I described to them what was happening I realized the issue.

Hi ! I saw this on a rocky beach in Toulon, France. Does anyone have any idea what it could be? I initially thought it might be a sea slug or a retracted sea anemone, but I'm not sure about it. Thanks in advance!

Equipment What's the Best Action Camera You've Used That Was Actually Worth Buying?

I've got a snorkeling trip planned later this year and figured it's finally time to pick up an action camera.

Most of what I'd be filming would be underwater, so I'm more interested in good video quality, battery life, and something I don't have to worry about getting wet all day. I'd rather hear from people who've actually used theirs on snorkeling trips than watch another YouTube review

What are you using these days?

Advice Beginner Snorkeling in the Maldives, Is a Sea Scooter Worth It?

I’m new to snorkeling and heading to the Maldives next week with a friend who’s much more experienced. I’m thinking a portable underwater scooter might help me save energy and keep up with him.

The LEFEET P1 Lite caught my eye because it’s small and portable. Has anyone used one for snorkeling or taken it on a plane? Any issues with the battery, TSA or airline rules? Would love to hear your experience!

Beautfull spot. Very busy! Good clarity and healthy reef. Lost count of turtles and lots of reef fish. Good color!

Hung out with a small octopus as well!

Windy and surf picked up strong in the mid afternoon. Lots of blowing sand.

Def go early.

FirstTime Blue Bay Mauritius, a Ross the reef and a yellow trumpetfish

A second video from our off-season trip to Mauritius last year, heading out across the shallow blue bay reef and getting very excited by a yellow trumpetfish!

The video is stabilised and I could not see the screen so the camera work is often terrible, sorry. At 6'1" and my wife at 5'10" we could stand up at the sandy patches to catch our breath and get our bearings, it's an amazing place for a novice snorkel.

*Across the reef.... Stupid fat fingers.

FirstTime Question about kids snorkeling

We are traveling to Bonaire next week. On days I’m not diving I’ll be snorkeling in with my 4 year old and 9 year old. My brother has been to Bonaire and said a lot of the snorkel spots are deep, so to make things easier for them (and me) should I bring life jackets? They swim well, but I don’t think treading water with them for an extended period of time would be fun

Wildlife Some of my favorite underwater wildlife encounters snorkeling in Grenada 🐙🦑🇬🇩

All of these were taken with the GoPro Hero15 Black snorkeling off of Pink Gin Beach in Grenada in June
2026.

Can anyone confirm these IDs from Grenada? I think they’re a Caribbean reef octopus, smooth trunkfish, and Caribbean reef squid.

The first two photos show what I believe is a Caribbean reef octopus releasing ink. The next three are from another octopus encounter, followed by a smooth trunkfish and a Caribbean reef squid.

**Edited in Lightroom to enhance the natural colors and clarity

Advice Marsa Alam or Hurghada?

Hello, I’m planning a snorkeling trip to Egypt, in November, but still unsure about the destination.

I’ve heard about bleaching in Marsa Alam, even though it’s probably better than Hurghada for wildlife.
Hurghada seems interesting too, but maybe too touristy?
Which destination has the best reefs right now?

In Marsa Alam, I would go for Three Corners Fayrouz resort (heard about nice house reef and it’s close to Marsa Mubarak).
In Hurghada I’d choose Makadi Bay.

Any advice would help. Thank you <3

Advice Manufacturer Film

I got a new snorkel mask and cannot get the film off. It's tempered glass and I've tried the toothpaste method multiple times. I'm not sure I feel comfortable using a lighter due to fear of messing up. What are some other options?

FirstTime “Sea lice” advice has failed me and I feel violent

Posting this from my honeymoon in Sabah, where the reef is truly amazing but today I’m angrily sitting inside😭

Anyone had experience with sea lice ‘biting‘ exposed skin? I know it’s supposed to be larvae getting trapped, but I’m also getting loads of ‘bites’ on areas nowhere near swimwear or hair and can’t find anything online acknowledging that this can also happen.

For example on day 2 yesterday I wore minimal swimmers, and the whole time I was in the water I was feeling ‘bites’ on my neck, face and arms but couldn’t see anything. The rash that has come up just looks like a normal sea lice rash. I look like I have chickenpox. (I had chickenpox when I was a baby, otherwise I might think it was that lol)

Not trying to seek medical advice, I just wanted to know if anyone else knew of this happening, it might help me feel less like I must be missing something. (also, I’m bored and Just want to get back out there to my fish friends)

Advice Help me choose - last minute, solo snorkel trip - Cabo Pulmo vs Cozumel?

Looking at heading out within the next couple of weeks while I have a lull in life.

My understanding is Cozumel is supposed to be rather clear at this time, however I tend to avoid crowds/resort life during travel.

I'm leaning heavily toward Cabo Pulmo at this juncture, but, seeing as I don't know any other snorkel enthusiasts personally, I'm throwing it out to the community. I'm aware of the laws in place to protect the park, in addition to the logistics to reach the remote area.

Strong swimmer. Fine in currents, rough waters for 90 minutes plus.

Loves: Sea turtles, sharks, and r/snorkeling 😄

Many thanks in advance!
