There’s way more fish in this tank I couldn’t even get a picture of. I’d say like 7 more maybe I’m thinking too deep about it. I don’t know how many gallons it is either.

More of a curiosity question. I’s consider myself a pretty experienced fish keeper. I currently have 4 aquariums set up varying in size from 8 gallons to 120gallons and have been keeping fish for like 10 years. I alway quarantine new fish for 1-2 weeks even from my awesome LFS before going into tanks. My tanks are fully planted, many have shrimp or snails and a disease outbreak would be a mess plus I’d be devastated to have a die off of fish I really enjoy.

I stopped by my LFS today to pick up some more tiger barbs for my school and was making a light joke to some employees/other fish keepers about how I broke out my quarantine pot and had my cycled filter ready to go and was excited to pick up some fish to add. I keep an extra sponge filter running in my healthy aquarium so I have ready to go cycle and I have a plant pot with no holes in the bottom I use as my quarantine/hospital tank that holds around 6-7 gallons of water . Several people, including employees made jokes about how I must be new because no one really does that. Their argument is if the aquarium is well cycled and the fish come from a good source, quarantine isn’t necessary. Everyone was kinda nodding along. So now I’m curious, do you all quartile new fish?

Hey - just needed an opinion of my tank set up. Had him 2 months and seems to be fine. Did a load of research beforehand which I think helped but got some mixed advice from 2 separate shops when I bought him - one said to add natural leafs (sold leaves in a bad for shrimps?) to help with PH levels etc. added them and instantly went a brown tinted water, not a full brown just a tint which wasn’t too bad and again he was happy and levels were good still but it looks mucky - is this an issue, will it clean up, will it create more algae etc. there’s a small bit growing on the glass but nothing I can’t clean away. Also side note do the plants look ok, again new at this so any help is appreciated.

I have a 20 gallon high (heavily planted) tank with 4 cpd’s, 1 reticulated hilllstream loach, and a colony of neocaridina shrimp, they have survived a year with no water change and are still thriving. I want to add 4 more cpds and a honey gourami but i’m not sure if I should skip the gourami and get 6 cpd’s instead. And how often should I do water changes after I do this?

usually these catfish are very energetic or are sitting in their corner not moving, but they have been doing this for the last three or four hours, the one on the right has not moved even a centimeter and the one on the left every now and then makes a tight circle then keeps doing what they are doing, should I be worried. I’ve been watching them the Whole time.

Hi! I have a few neon tetras and just this evening I noticed one swimming pretty much face down. It's always been a chunkier fish, but it looks almost bloated? Is this a swim bladder issue? If not, what could it be and how do I help? It seems weak, but it would be a shame to put it down if we could make it better.

I recently got a rehab rescued a pletcou and corridoras it's two albinos one golden striped albino and one peppered slash in with Cory cat and a 20 gallon long it also had a pleco I recently mean my roommate made a dedicated tank to the pleco just wondering what should I do to make the 20 gallon long healthy I really like my bottom feeders / corydoras I got four or five corridoras medium size the school together and have 6 tetra heavily filtered any ideas if I should keep it how it is or add more I kind of want a gourami used to have one. Can provide photos any help would help to be healthy

So I have this aquarium that’s basically a jungle of a whole bunch of plants, blackworms, shrimp, ostrocods and their babies (might put daphnia in too) and I’m thinking what to put in it.

The tanks dimensions are 59cm long, 28cm tall and 29cm wide.

I have loads of microfauna, but unlike other micro predators like the scarlet badis the armored sticklebacks will only eat the smallest of microfauna so the population won’t plummet.

But is my setup/tank okay for a pair or two off them?

I have a ten gallon fish tank at my office, also my first fish tank ever. In the tank are 5 guppies, one sucker fish, one neon Tetra, and 4 snails. About 2.5 weeks ago after a big clean the water got super green. I think it’s an algae bloom based on the color and cloudiness of the water, which I attribute to daily feedings. I’m feeding less frequently, only have the light on for 8 hours a day and off all weekend, and it’s not in direct or indirect sunlight. I want to avoid adding chemicals if it all possible and see some mixed opinions on UV lights. Any suggestions?

Hey everyone! I’m brand new to fishkeeping and a few weeks ago I bought a 20-gallon tall hexagon tank from Facebook Marketplace. It came with a filter, heater, air pump and a bunch of useful supplies.

Since getting it (about 3-4 weeks ago) I’ve added gravel, artificial driftwood and live plants, including Anubias, Ambulia, Alternanthera, Frogbit and erect moss. I also replaced the original hood light with a full-spectrum SEAOURA plant light and added air stones.
I’ve been doing a fishless cycle using bottled bacteria and small amounts of fish food.

My current readings are:
Ammonia: matches my tap-water baseline, around 0–0.25 ppm
Nitrite: 0 ppm
Nitrate: around 5 ppm
pH: around 8.0
Temperature: around 78°F
I’ve been adding a small amount of food as a cycle test, and after 48 hours the ammonia and nitrite come back to a baseline/zero.

I haven’t added any animals yet. I’m considering GloFish tetras, small shrimp once the tank is more mature, possibly some otocinclus and maybe one centerpiece fish. I know the tall hexagon shape has less horizontal swimming room, though, so I don’t want to overcrowd it.

Does everything look okay so far? What stocking combination would work best, and what should I add first? Any advice on how to improve before adding any livestock would be appreciated!

He’s the only inhabitant besides two live plants

This is going to be my first time owning a beta fish. I’ve done a lot of research and this is the tank I put together! I was hoping for some feedback on the tank and wondering is there is anything I should know before getting my fish. (I apologize for my writing being possibly confusing, as I don’t post on Reddit often.)

Some more info about tank: My tank is 7 gallons. I have plants such as Java fern, Amazon sword, Annubias, and mixed floaters. I have a sponge filter, a non-adjustable heater at 78°, and a led light.

My grandma has a 20 gallon fish tank with mollies, 2 tetras, 2 snails, and an algae eater. She has 3 questions but I don’t know much about fish tanks. 1. She wants to transform her fish tank into a kuhli loach tank but doesn’t know the steps to doing that. 2. She wants to know why her water levels slowly go down. And 3 she wants to know how to get rid of and prevent this stuff on her lid. I’ll provide images of all issues

Alright tank people its time for a new journey as a rookie. Got me a 30 gal tank and it came with a sponge filter, some resting areas for turtles, and some decorations. Of course I don’t need to use these if anything. Now I want to make this a fun little project and make it a community tank type of thing. What are we thinking the first move should be? Plants, fish idea, new decorations what do you got for me?

There is at least 5-8 snails in my tank currently, Detritus worms, and this larvae looking thing? I am panicking please tell me what I can do to remove them!!
