21 Years old, had a full license for two years. Haven't driven overseas before but have my international driving permit. Seriously tossing up skipping the Dolomites completely if driving around in a rental car is too risky. Just don't want to be dependent on infrequent buses, paying for taxis constantly, missing early morning starts, and basically seeing half of what I had originally planned (with a car). But the safety risk of course trumps all of that.

Will it be okay? I would say I am a cautious and skilled driver. I have been driving alone since 17.

Hello everyone! I chose Lago Maggiore for my 30th birthday celebration and we are traveling with a group of 10. The dates are 3-6 of September and I'm drafting an itinerary. We are staying in a beautiful villa near Besozzo, what are some good activities in the area (under 1h drive)? Also we are thinking of booking a private boat for the day but I don't see much options for 10 people except water taxis. Other things I'm curious about: what's the best vineyard to go to, which restaurants are a must in the area? Generally any advice would be appreciated, I want my guests to have the best time!

My girlfriend and I are visiting Italy this september and we're wondering if there are any must-see's or fun activities to try/do when in Italy. We are 22 and 26 years old and are quite active (I like to do some running in the morning). We enjoy good food, wine, beer, music and other festivities as well. We are suckers for local culture and we'd like to really get a taste of how people are, what they like to do and what they're most proud of (food, wine, sports, anything). Getting to know the locals doesn't mean we are planning on talking to everyone and bothering them with our 'touristy-interest', we'd just like to get a taste of local interests/products.

We're both from the Netherlands and can be social when needed, but we can do very well on our own as well. We dont mean te intrude or be the typical tourist when visiting such a cultural country such as Italy. My girlfriend and I traveled to Reggio Calabria two years ago and had a wonderful time. The place is my kind of beautiful. Il corso, il lungo mare, il museo e la gente erano tutti perfetti.
Few places have touched me the way Reggio Calabria did. And if you’re crazy enough to not like it, Messina (Sicilia) is just 30 minutes away by traghetto (ferry)

Hiya! I’m planning an Italy solo trip in November as it’s my birthday for 4 days and 3 nights. However I’m struggling to decide if I should stay in Naples or Rome.

I want to visit both of these places as a day trip, but I would also like to book a day trip to Pompeii (I know, very ambitious here, but stick with me)

My idea initially was to fly in the morning - ideally before 12 - and take a train to Naples for a day trip. Then go to Pompeii on my second day, then on my third have a wander around Rome and fly out on the fourth day.

But no matter how I look at it I’m just going back and forth - Pompeii is closer to Naples so if I got a guided tour it would be easier to get there from Naples, but then I’d have to back and forth Rome as I want to have a day trip there and also it’s where I’d be flying to and from. Either way kind of annoying.

(I could also do my day trip around Rome on my first day, but that would include lugging all my stuff around which I’d rather have in Naples, and I would also like to push Rome to my exact birthday, which would be the third day)

If anyone knows what would be a more pleasant overnight stay (it’s my first time in Italy!) and less of a hassle, please do let me know as I’m lost.

Also train tips would be appreciated!!
