Been seeing some comments lately complaining games are not aimed towards women because they don't have female main characters with male romances, and that most women in games are queer, which makes me a little bit frustrated, I guess.
First of all, I'm just frustrated at the implication that for a game to be aimed towards women, the romance needs to be with a male character. I often see comments recommending otome games as "games aimed towards women" and I'm bi and all, but those games are aimed towards "women who only like men, or who prefer men" at best.
Second, a female character being queer does not detract from romances with men in any way, in any way at all. For example, Kassandra in AC Odyssey has superficial hook-up options with both men and women throughout the game, and a couple of romances that go a little deeper with men and women as well, and any criticisms on superficiality would apply to both. The complaints being "most female characters in games are queer" just makes it seem like it's not about the romance options, but that the person doesn't want to see queer women at all, and that only games that allow romances with male characters, but don't allow romances with female characters would qualify. Seems weird to me.
Lastly, there are not a lot of games that restrict you to a sapphic romance. I can only think of Horizon's Burning Shores DLC where Aloy can romance Seyka, and Signalis.
So basically, this is it, just wanted to air out my frustrations as a bi girl as seeing people saying things that makes me feel like, to them, only "straight romances" count when it comes to "games aimed at women."
