The request has been made time and time again, your voices have been heard! In this thread, let's get well-written answers to these questions (as well as additional questions if you think of any). These questions have been sourced from these to threads: here and here.
I apologize in advanced for any duplicate questions. I'm doing this during mandatory training so I can't proofread a ton haha.
For the format of your post, please quote the question using the ">" symbol at the beginning of the line, then answer in the line below. I will post an example in the comments.
What's northern vs southern? Internal vs external? Shaolin vs wutang? Buddhist vs Taoist?

What is the difference between forms, taolu and kata?
Why do you practice forms?
How do weapons help you with empty handed fighting?

The traditional martial arts stances we know, like Ma Bu, are known for their ability to train isometric training, they are fundamental for the most Kung Fu style, especially Shaolin styles. MMA or UFC fighters very rarely use those stances during training, but that doesn't mean that they are unimportant. That's because Kung fu stances, if they are trained with the right mindset (and I mean that if train any Kung Fu stance and you reach to a point where you have pain in your legs and you have 30 seconds to go if you say that "even though it's difficult that doesn't mean I can't do it" so if you make your mind not focus on the hard stuff but on the fact that even if it'sdifficult it doesn't mean that i can't do it) then you really train your mindset just by simply doing basic stances.

What are your thoughts on the "candle skill" where martial artists train to extinguish candles with strikes?
Valuable training tool?
Worthless parlor trick?
Something else?

Caught my reflection in the train window today, and it took me back to my daily commutes 10 years ago, when I was 63.
Now, at 73, I still feel like a tree swaying in the breeze. There is no need to grip a pole or brace myself. With my body fully relaxed, it naturally absorbs the changing forces as the train accelerates, slows down, and turns.
This response is so natural that it doesn't disturb my mind or body at all. Whether I'm thinking deeply or typing a message, the movement simply takes care of itself.
This is the beauty of Taijiquan in everyday life.
What everyday situations have shown you the practical value of your training?

Greetings all. Had the pleasure of interviewing Sifu Neil Ripski, previously of Jingwu Canada, a relatively well-known gentleman, about a rare lineage of Shaolin Eighteen Lohan Palm he learned from Dr Chen Qiming (of Jingwu Guangzhou).
It’s right up there with Bone-Marrow Washing and Muscle-Tendon Changing.
I’m helping him turn it into an online course at the moment, for those who’d like more info, checkout the website:

A person on this sub made a post asking if someone has it and I got curious about this, I've never heard of this in my near 20 years of martial arts experience and just got curious. Apparently it has to do something about the internal styles.
