Kiung fu movies are replete with all kinds of weapons - edged, blunt, chained, flying even - but there's this specific sword that crops up in Shaw movies from around late 60s to early 70s that I find particularly interesting - and I daresay it's the same prop sword that is being used in all of the movies this kind of sword is featured in.

It has a triangular cross-section hollowed-out blade, cylindrical sheath and hilt, and drawing it from the sheath requires a certain twisting unlocking action that makes a very distinct sound - whether it makes that sound and requires this action to be unsheathed - I don't know, but it sure makes for a very cool watch whenever it happens.

It is the ONLY triangular cross-section sword that I have pretty much ever seen in a kung fu or a wuxia movie and I wonder if it is even authentic to Chinese Martial Arts in general.

Its counterpart in the West would be the small sword - same general blade geometry, size and usage - but small swords were only popular in the West in the 18th century, so I don't know how historically accurate or appropriate for the periods alluded to in the Shaw movies it would have been.

Anyhoo - cool weapon in some of the coolest movies I have ever watched - The Bells of Death in particular I like so very much, it makes me wonder how Chang Yi did not end up starring in even more hard hitting movies.

Ku Feng is an all time great villain in The Golden Seal - he is so evil in this movie in fact, that he rapes a woman, impregnates her with a child (not that he cared much about this part - she raises her daughter all alone!) and eventually gets killed by said daughter - well, the daughter gets in a sword blow too, is what I am trying to say.

The Magnificent Swordsman is a play-by-play copy of the Zatoichi's Pilgrimage - all the way down to the pretty girl running around the village, knocking on doors, trying to get somebody to help our lonely hero not face the villains all by his lonesome. In Zatoichi film the brave helper promptly dies, in the Shaw film - he survives!

All in all - what do you guys think - cool little nugget of discovery or nah?

Gotta say after relatively underwhelming Sin Trade and Detective Chen 2 I was a bit worried Ashton Chen is gonna be left behind this year but he and Qin Pengfei pulled through with this one. It's super fun, really quick paced (it's like 85min with credits) and other few actors got to shine like Liu Fengchao (Butcher's Blade) and Qu Jingjing (The Bodyguard). Liu Fengchao is positioning himself as a really good bad guy. He was by far the best part of Sin Trade but there the action was a bit lacking but here even though he plays a secondary bad guy he gets to shine. Which is a testament how good Qin Pegnfei is compared to other current webmovies directors. Qu Jingjing plays one of the other cops and she absolutely kills it. She has the best fight scene of the movie in a cramped toilet. Ashton Chen and Iko Uwais are really good and their 2 fights are great. There's some comedy in the movie as well and it works considering how dark and bleak Chen's Sin Trade was this year. Basically this is martial arts Passenger 57 lol but it is really short and fast paced. Basically the first 30mins is setup and then from around the 40th minute until the 70th minute it's all fighting almost. It's definitely a must watch of Ashton Chen's along Blade of Fury and Blackstorm.

Has there been any word on Arrow splitting up the second Shawscope set like the did the first one? I've been wanting 36th chamber but that set is too big and too expensive. Especially when I just want a handful of the movies on the set.

60s, she has great acting ability, she is agile, fairly handy with a sword and - above all else - she is eye candy so sweet, it gives people instant diabetes - and then, past 1972 she drops off the face of the Earth - or the silver screen if I am more truthful - till what, 2017? - who knows more of Wang Ling's story - please, do share.

Hey everyone, I grew up watching the occasional Jackie Chan movie on TV and recently saw The Furious and The Raid 1&2 and just loved them. Now I want more and could use some recommendations, doesn't have to be gritty and dark like the mentioned movies. I just want to see some great Kung-Fu.

80s Asian action movie, one particular scene: heroine is runing away from 2 or 3 henchwomen in a marina or somewhere close to water. She throws one villainess into water. The last villainess takes out a machete from under her long leather coat but the heroine uses a cable to tackle here down.
