How to size a snowboard:
Look at the manufacturer's published weight/boot size guide for the specific board you're looking for. The goal is to be smack dab in the middle of the weight and boot size range for the board you're looking at. That said, it doesn't always work that way. Sometimes you are in-between ranges. If this is you, you need to make a choice:
Board Components:
Less Flex (Flex: 1-3) - Better for park/ground tricks/day 1 of learning. Very forgiving
Medium Flex (Flex: 4-6) - A good all around flex pattern for getting around the entire mountain comfortably while learning. You'll be able to do everything on the mountain to some degree, but optimizing flex will grant you key benefits as you get better. These boards can be forgiving if 3d shaped, or unforgiving if no 3d shaping and fully cambered
Stiff Flex (Flex: 7-10) - You are no longer a noob, and have the need for speed and stability. You are a destroyer of mountains, queen of the top. These boards are EXTREMELY unforgiving, and should not be your choice until you are ready.
Board Recommendations:
I like the following:
Twin Sister - This is my freestyle all mountain board. I use it for exploring new mountains, hitting some park/side hits, and all snow conditions. It's a jack of all trades, and master of none. A GREAT beginner board that you could ride from Day 1 until you're crushing double blacks.
Dancehaul - My favorite slush slasher for the spring. And one of my favorites in the pow. This is a volume shifted board, so I can ride a much shorter board while maintaining my float on powder.
Flagship - My stiff flex bombing board. Get out of the way, because I'm coming in at warp speed.
Yes Hello/Basic/Hel Yes - If you are east coast, nothing beats these ice huggers. Yes offers a good lineup of boards that stick to the ice like white on rice!
How to pick boots:
If you already have boots - and you can move your toes around, find yourself sliding around in them, your heel is lifting, or they aren't snugly wrapped around your feet, it's either time for new liners...or new boots.
Boots are your hands down most important piece of gear. They should be your first major purchase, and should be purchased BRAND NEW. I highly suggest using Evo, and scheduling a boot fitting with them. I would not go to a big box store like REI where it's luck of the draw with getting a decent boot fitter. This is your most important piece of gear to get exactly right, so take the time and effort to do so. Evo has a 365 unused gear return policy. I live in Tx, so there are zero stores here to try on boots. I simply ordered multiple sizes before a road trip to SLC, and went to the Evo store there. I ordered them ahead of time bc they don't have all the brands/sizes in every store. Got to Evo, had a boot fitter confirm my sizing was right, and returned the other ones. I did it all within 30 days on my credit card so I didn't have to worry about money out of pocket.
A properly fitted boot wraps around your foot completely and mates it to your foot like it was meant to be. Your toes should absolutely touch the end of the boot and be giving it a nice kiss. A good fitting boot will feel a half size too small and uncomfortable. Boots have a "break in" period where your liner of the boot will mold to your foot. So don't worry if it's just a little too tight, because that's what you want.
If your boots feel perfect, but you're getting a little heel rise, consider getting some Sidas medium inserts. I put these in all my boots, as they blow the stock footbeds out of the water. No need to spend extra getting custom footbeds, unless you absolutely need custom.
Bindings:
Match your binding flex to your board. There are lots of good bindings to choose from. I generally like Bent Metal, Rome, Union, and Nidecker. I am NOT a fan of recent Burton offerings as the ratchets have had too many reports of coming undone. Here's my list of specific favs in no order:
Bent Metal Forte - Great starter bindings
Rome Katana - Great tweakable bindings to get just right with a stiffer flex
Union Juliette - Another excellent starter/intermediate binding from one of the best binding companies
Nidecker Supermatics - Step on style, works with any boot, but take some time to learn/dial in. These are what I ride, and it's tough going back to strap in only bindings.
Apparel:
I'm a buy once cry once kind of girl, but also a thrifty shopper! I buy everything from Evo bc they have the best return policy and crazy sales. You can return anything within 365 days if it's unused. There's one in SLC and Seattle, which is where I mostly board. I shop Evo's constant 20-40+% off sales. I HIGHLY recommend buying a size up for the jacket and bibs. It's much cooler to be baggy on the slopes than fitted. Also - since you'll be layering, you want room in your jacket/bibs. If you're unsure, buy both sizes and return the one to Evo that you don't like the fit of. Oh and you get points with Evo for every dollar spent. I have like 6000 points to spend right now...lol. I have a problem, and it's cute snowboard hoodies.
Shell Bibs -These volcom bibs are the one's I just replaced my Trew's with and they're on sale. And they have the "shit zip" as I've dubbed it. I would not buy bibs that don't have a zipper on the butt for potty breaks. It's invaluable. Find Goretex shell bibs that are 2L or 3L for resorts!
Shell Jacket - Here's a shell jacket that would work and isn't crazy pricey too that's on sale! Again a 2L goretex shell is perfect for resort riding.
Helmet - Smith Liberty - this is an awesome helmet with great protection for a killer price....I might have to get a backup. It has both safety things I look for, MIPs and Koryod. Then it also has a ton of vents, which is also important to stay cool.
Thermal Top (base layer) - Your base layer thermal is what will ultimately keep you warm. You can layer on top of this, and under your jacket shell. I usually just ride in my thermals and my shell jacket. Snowboarding is exercise, and you will sweat if you overcompensate. Once you start sweating, it's game over and you will be miserable. So remove layers the second you start getting warm!
Thermal Bottoms - - Thermal bottoms are a must, and there are full length and 3/4 options. I like 3/4 for warmer days, and full length for those cold days. I don't wear anything over them aside from my bibs! Bibs stay on all day so no biggie.
Socks - I highly recommend some THIN snowboarding socks without any padding. Never ever ever wear 2 pairs of socks at once to keep your feet warm. Just blast the inner liners of your boots on the way up the mountain with your cars hot air to warm them up, and slam your feet in while they're still warm. This really helps keep my feet warm all day even in the coldest temps. 2 pairs of socks will make you unstable in your boot, and pack your boot out sooner. It's a bad idea, don't do it.
Butt diaper -Make sure you get some type of tailbone protector. Never forget it. It's your savior. It's the most important piece of gear for learning next to the helmet. I use demon v2 and just removed all the pads but the tailbone protector. It doesn't seem like it's being sold anymore though.
Dakine Wristguard Gloves - So much better than gloves + separate wristguards. It's horrible...just get the Dakine gloves with wristguards built in if you're learning.

Hi! I've been looking at upgrading my 2018 SMF which I've had for 8 years. Prior to the SMF I owned a Birds of a Feather for about 5 years.
I love mountain freestyling; buttering, pressing, ollies, ground tricks etc. On the mountain, I'd say I'm an intermediate rider, very comfortable and in control of on my board in any direction. I love the playfulness and flex of the SMF. My Birds of a Feather was too stiff and I found it hard to ride in that loose/playful way that I mostly ride nowadays.
However, I've usually avoided park except for the most basic boxes. I don't mind trying to learn more park, but it's not a priority. That being said, I've also avoided it because with the SMF (and with any flats, really), I slide out really easily if my body weight isn't perfectly centered. Definitely in part skill issue.
To summarise; my priority is to be able to keep the same level of "fun" re boarding on the ground, but I wouldn't mind some improvements on icy/flat stability if possible? I hear the Distortia is really forgiving when jibbing so maybe it'll help me overcome the park barrier?
Edit: Also I just realized the "Disaster" is replacing the Distortia in 2027 - so maybe I should get that instead?

Hey everyone,
I'm kind of stuck in my head and don't get out.
So, this January was my first season of snowboarding. And I loved it, I haven't had so much fun in ages. And even the Snowboarding teacher said that I'm making fast progress and was happy with me.
I head a 140 cm rental board for the 10 days and I felt safe with it. But when we were at an indoor alpin center in Germany after the season, they gave me 150 board and it felt way to long for me and I had problems handling it. Thing is, currently I'm overweight. I'm 160 cm tall and my weight is about 95 kg right now. I already lost 25 kg and had major surgeries because of lipedema last year. This is the first year in like 15 years that I can be bodily active again thanks to the surgeries. And I was so happy. Now when I look online what would be the recommended stats for me, it always recommends boards that are as long as I'm high or even longer or simply says "there are no boards for your stats". I already had the feeling that the 150 cm board is to long for me, how can I handle a 160cm board then? Id rather drive a 140cm board again but I'm afraid now, that it might just split in half. I'm really sad atm because I already got through so much pain and trouble to be able to get into an active life again and now I again have the feeling, that it's just not possible for me :( I plan on loosing more weight of course but in a slow way and I still will be heavy next season. Is here anyone with a similar problem maybe? Or any other heavy boarder? I just don't want to give up the sport :(

Hi there,
This topic probably have been talked to death, but I am in the PNW and the snow here was terrible last season, and made me almost want to give it all up.
I am a very average snowboarder and I am very risk adverse and goes up to the mountain 5x per season so I mainly stay on greens/blues. I want to get a newer used board because my current board was very beginner friendly at 142cm with 1/10 flex but I cannot progress due to gaining weight and I feel like I am literally sinking and have to go very slow.
For context:
• Female
• Height: 5'6"
• Weight: 130 lbs
• Boot size: Size 5 Womens, 22.5CM I think
The only two board I am looking at, because it is available used and within my budget and also available near to me are:
I have a really hard time choosing between the two but I want to get one of these board before the fall starts as then the prices goes back up before coming down again. I know there are way more options out there but for now I am really looking for your expertise between these two options, especially since the dreamweaver 2.0 is new for 2026.

I have been eyeballing these for awhile, and I need new bindings as my Burton Lexas have officially died. Looking for feedback, good or bad. I am in the South East (Beech Mtn), so I mostly ride ice with 1/2” of snow on top if I can catch the first hour of opening daily. I do get the opportunity to go to Colorado or Montana once or twice a year. I am old, so these days I stick to blue groomers. Thanks for any input.

Hi all! I’m an intermediate rider looking for a new board to grow into skill-wise this upcoming season. I primarily ride resorts with my dad and sister, Green and Blue routes with mixed conditions and icy groomers. I’ve been riding a Gnu Velvet which is more playful and a little too soft and chattery for fast carving on steeper terrain, so I’m looking to add to my quiver and pick up speed to hopefully progress towards Black level routes!
I surfskate in the off-season and am looking for a bit of that flowy feeling. I typed all this into ChatGPT and it recommended the Arbor Swoon Camber, but I wanted a second opinion from humans haha.
Anyone have any experience with either of these boards? Would appreciate any insight!

Hello to all the snowboarding girls. I snowboard for about 4-5 years and last year my girlfriend decided that she wants to join me. We did a couple of rides together, helped her out and she did pretty well, she already kinda controls her speed with heels but of course she hasn't been able to carve this soon. I want to make her a gift to buy her her first gear. Snowboard,binding,clothes,helmet etc. I did some research and showed her the metal space fantasy board(freestyle/all mountain zero profile) and the birds of feather(all mountain, camber profile) I know that birds of feather could be more valuable when she got to the point that she will want to carve, but the space fantasy one, will help her more to learn control and turns at rookie speeds and also will help her with the pops and ollie's as long as that's something she likes a lot and want to learn. Any of you got any advices or feedback on these boards?

Hey yall!! ive been lurking this subreddit for a while and im hoping i can get any help with finding a pair of bindings that are right for me.
Im 5'6, 150lbs and currently ride a CAPITA Paradise 149 (that i love very much) if that helps.
I've only snowboarded for one season, but I would consider myself not really a beginner but not really an intermediate- i can carve, do some basic tricks (ollie, fs 180, tail press and some other silly things ive learned) but i want to learn to hit some ramp jump things next season (my goal is to successfully land an indie next year lol). so im worried that the kind of bindings that i buy will affect how i do since i really don't know what im doing with gear and im getting fear mongered by all the people saying these bindings are this and that.
My old bindings were a pair of Firefly bindings i stole from my mom, but they're so old the little clipping things have worn down and come loose while im riding.
As for price range, im hoping it can stay below the 250-300 CAD mark give some take some
Any help would be appreciated thankss!!!

I am looking for a new easy going, fun board primarily for the slopes:)
ATM I’m riding a Nitro Fate Zero, and I always loved it but since it is 9 years old by now, I feel like a new addition could not hurt.
For powder I’m riding a CAPITA Spring Break and I’ve also purchased a CAPITA Birds of Feather a couple Seasons ago as a first attempt to replace my Nitro. I honestly really hated the feeling of the Birds of a Feather on the snow and only took it to the mountains like 4 times 😅
I was living in Austria right in the mountains a couple of years so for my riding level I would say I’m advanced in terms of terrain but I’m not doing anything crazy and don’t feel the need Need anymore to always push myself to the limits.
I’m looking for a board that is fun on the slopes, but can also catch an edge when it gets I little icy (so maybe not a full rocker?!). In basically just carrying about a good time, maybe some little sidehits and if the stars a could even a little jump on the medium line in the funpark.
My boards are all 147/148 and that size suits me well.
If you have any recommendations please let me know and if I forgot any information to share please let me know 💕

Hi guys, i've been looking into buying a new snowboard for this season. I've been snowboarding for about 3 years now, but really fell in love with it this season, and I want to upgrade to a better board. I don't have a lot of parks around me, but i got the chance to try some rails and jumps, and I did really enjoy it. So basically, I want an all-mtn board. I ride switch every single run, and also want to learn some butter tricks, I deffo want to go to the park if I have the opportunity. But I also want a board that i can enjoy just riding down the slope with. Maybe try to learn carving, or riding powder (But it isn't really a priority).
I've been looking at the Rome Hype Pro for quite some time and it's on sale right now, but I'm "scared" to commit to buying this board.I've read a lot of reviews saying that it's a good fit for me, that it can do a little bit of everything, but I'm just not a 100% sure. Do you have any experience with this board? Will it be a good fit or should I consider smth else?

Long story short, I bought a Nitro Drop 2025 that I claimed a warranty for and sadly, they no longer have this at stock at Nitro.
Not gonna go with the Drop 2026 because I just don’t love the design and knowing me, I would not be happy with the board - graphics are important to me 🤣
Anywhooo, i am looking at the Nitro Fate 2026 because lo and behold - IT’S PURPLE!! Already checked some videos and read the specs but would love to hear feedback from those who owns the board.
I live in Toronto and rides at MLSM (usually icy). Can link turns sometimes lol heel is just my comfort zone and likes speed. Will probably share the Fate with my partner if ever since the remaining sizes for men’s board are just too tall for him.

I've bought a season pass for the next snow season and I'm decided to get into snowboarding for the first time. I found this really pretty snowboard on Facebook marketplace that I want to buy, but I wanted to know if it's too big? It is CAPiTA Birds of a Feather 2024 (144cm) wt RIDE bindings and snowboard bag for $150cad. I am 154 cm and around 105lbs. On some calculators it says that this snowboard is too big and on others it's in range. I'm not sure if I should just go for it cause I quite like the design.

hi! i'm fairly new to snowboarding, only tried it out a few seasons ago (but i've been skiing a long time). my cousin gifted my sister and i boards + boots bu i'm realizing he didn't get us any bindings, and we have NO idea how to shop for those. where should we start? the boards i think are libtech cortados 2023 and 2024... also i don't want to look like a total jackass on the slopes with all this new gear and stuff and no idea how to use it, so a rundown on like... what to know could be really helpful 🥹. thanks so much!!
