Misc How reliable is World Juniors as an indicator of future careers?

Been watching some of World Juniors this week and some of the players look like they would do well on the world tour but some seem not hugely different to my local club level.

If a player reaches a good round, say last 16, in World Juniors is it moreorless guaranteed that they'll reach top 16 when they turn pro?

University/College Squash Seeking improvement 5.5-6.0 clublocker rating jump

Hi, seeking some pointers, I'd say i'm a fairly high level squash player, but I am feeling a bit stuck improvement-wise with no clear direction to improve. I'm currently at around a 5.5 level, and my strengths include: deception(varying lengths as well as holds), touch, volleying and putting the ball away, I like to mix up the pace a lot, and I am pretty explosive movement wise doing squash specific gym exercises (bulgarian squats, rdl) 1-2 times a week with occasional on court ghosting. My weaknesses include: attrition, which has improved a lot these past years as my body is still growing a bit, as well as my mental game, i find that my game requires more mental focus compared to players of my similar level, as I am usually the one engaging in a pace change or trying to build patterns, and I fall into these occasional lapses of mental fatigue or just periods in a game where I lose 3-4 points in a row from ahead. Then I sometimes get frustrated and begin hitting the tin. I plan on getting coaching from a malaysian coach that's currently in my area that was good, but also don't really want to pay the hefty price as I feel like the technical improvements that he'll bring to my game are marginal, but we'll see.

Rules What percentage of players have never read the rules?

I wonder what the percentage of players is that have never read the rules. It seems to be one of those things that when people first start learning, they learn a few rules from the people they play with and as they get better, those learned rules are refined or changed. In addition, they learn more rules when they start playing more seriously and competitively.

But even then, I am convinced that few players have actually sat down and read the rules carefully.

I wonder if the WSF should produce a set of casual or beginner rules that fit on one A4 piece of paper that can be posted on the door of every squash court in the world.

My guess? 95% have never read the rules. Your guess?

Misc What would the pro game look like if squash were as popular as football?

My take is every city of a million people would have someone in the current top 10 PSA level. Rallies would go on forever so they would lower the tin by another 2 inches or more?!

Or maybe the game is already as evolved as it can get and only tiny improvements can be made by pros?

(The red pants are me)
I thought I had a lot of time, but I have a phenomenon where my right arm falls sideways during the follow swing. What's the problem?

I would appreciate it if you could understand even if it's awkward using a translator thx :)

Equipment Tecnifibre Dynergy 117 replacement grommets and bumper in EU

Hey everyone,

I have an older Dynergy model which needs grommets and bumper replacement but it seems the parts are no longer available since the racket is discontinued. I couldn't find anything in stock in EU online. Is there any generic or similar model grommets + bumper set that I can use on this racket?

Community Do you make eye contact?

Slightly odd one but I was playing squash on Friday and I was exhausted after work and finding it very difficult to concentrate, plus it was a very hot evening.

I mentioned to my opponent that I was struggling to follow the ball in our second game and he said ‘well you’re one of those guys that doesn’t make eye contact when you talk, you probably have difficulty focussing on the ball’

I always knew that I rarely look anyone directly in the eye (no idea why, it’s just something I struggle with) but I’d never considered that that might also affect my game.

Anyone else experienced this or is it nonsense?

Equipment Harrow UK closure

With the news of Harrow UK ceasing trading, can anyone recommend where I can get hold of something like a Harrow Vapor? I’ve tried Dunlop Sonicore 132 and found it a bit clunky. I also didn’t love the Slash 120 or the Head that Paul Coll uses - the Vapor just feels the best so would be looking to match that as close as possible.

Any help is much appreciated!

Equipment Question About using tennis shoes

Hi all.

Does anybody here use tennis shoes for squash. I have the ASCIS GAME FF. Ive used them a few times with no issues. I cant afford to get indoor court shoes just yet as they are quite pricey in my country.

Just want to find out you guys opinion and if anybody else uses/used them.

Thanks

Edit: Social player here. Around twice a week.

Equipment I scored a Dunlop JP Ice Elite

Post image
29 Upvotes

There's no real a point to this post, I just wanted to share this with people that might appreciate my luck. Scored these two rackets in an online auction. 3 seconds before the Auction ended it was still on ~20€ incl. shipping. Another bidder swooped in last second, so I ended up at winning it around 70€ incl. shipping. Just received them today and they don't even have cosmetic scratches or anything. Looking forward to hitting with them soom 😄

If anyone knows anything about the second racket, a Dunlop Max 525 over-limit, feel free to comment too!

Equipment Looking to buy a head-heavy racket - beginner

Friend uses a Wilson hyper hammer 120. I've got a Dunlop blackmax titanium racket. I tried the Wilson and was blown away how easily you can whack the ball with it compared to mine you need full force.

What head heavy rackets should I consider switching to not spending an arm n leg as a beginner?

Cheers

Technique / Tactics Feeling bad about a big collision I had, looking for advice.

Im a newer player and have been having a great time. Lately ive started to string together some nice long matches and ive even won a few. Today I was playing an opponent in a ladder match who ive played before. Usually its a rout for me but this time I managed a win which was a nice moment.

However during the fifth game I was standing close the to the front wall and hit a drop, and we collided. I was trying to move out of the way and just stepped into her path. It was a big hit, and I grabbed her so she wouldnt fall on the floor. I felt bad about it for sure and apologized several times. I am a good deal bigger so I was fine but I think she was shook up.

How do avoid this in the future? Some of my opponents are in their 70s and Id hate to hurt them by making that mistake again. Id appreciate some tips on getting out of the way efficiently. Especially near the front wall when the opponent is unsightly behind me.

Does this just happen sometimes in squash?
