My dad and I designed and made this multi-pocket crossbody bag from dark brown and tan Italian leather.

We wanted it to stay fairly compact while still offering plenty of organized storage, so we built it around a structured main compartment, added two pockets on the sides, and placed two smaller pouches directly onto the wide adjustable strap.

The bottom is reinforced with an extra layer of leather stitched onto the outside, which gives the bag more structure and helps protect the base. Everything was hand stitched with 1 mm waxed polyester thread, and I finished the edges with Uniters edge paint.

There are many separate pieces and layers in this one, especially around the pockets and strap, but I really enjoyed seeing the whole design come together.

Hey all, here's a small leather jewelry-type container I'm just finishing up. I lucked out with that purple color as I mixed it myself, using cheap dyes and acetone. I feel like it makes the budget 6oz Tandys veg tan look pretty sweet 👌

Also, the hardware shown is super useful, but it's just a placeholder while I wait for my button studs...

Lastly: the outdoor photos are there because I stitched much of the box outside, while my cats took a rest, mid-trek. Lol.

So, my two best performing posts are my ghost leather wallet and my wave stitching wallet so I figured why not make a wave in ghost. I wanted to find out two things from it.

a) how long would it take to make a wave from start to finish if I marathon it.
b) would this look good?

To answer my questions

a) 5 hours. I started at 5pm and finished at 10. I’ll chalk some up to letting glue dry but with the additional time of marking and punching every hole I imagine that took ~an hour and a half
b) I not sure how I feel about it. I personally think it has potential to look really cool as the wax wears off and reveals the wave pattern. Right now it’s hidden because it’s black thread but I’d imagine in a month or two the wax would wear off revealing the pattern underneath.

I was making a leather Helmet for a local LARP group. I needed to wet form some pieces and I looked at Lowes and a trailer hitch ball was around $40 and had a flat top to it. So I thought I would go to Walmart and get either a baseball or a softball and I saw some kettle bells and moved on down the line a little further, and found a massager with a base that lets the ball moves around and it is perfect, and it’s only $10.00! Total game changer

Needed a holder for my last project so I made 1 it ain’t pretty but ittl works

Bit of a fun and unusual commission from last week I wanted to share. A pasta ring box made entirely from leather!

The whole piece is veg tan linguine, chrome tanned parmesan and some crazy horse herbs.

My aunt asked to make some coasters for a friend of hers. Hopefully I put enough sealant on them.

Has anyone shopped at Tandy leather factory? I just realized I live about 45 minutes from one of their locations. I got a lot of suggestions from you guys on beginner tools. I wasn’t sure if there was anything else particular that would be worth the drive to their location.

I've been playing around with this design for a few years now and I think I'm final done tweaking the pattern. Thoughts?

I am posting to show off my first three projects.

I started as I needed a magsafe wallet thinner than 4mm(one card) and does not use edge coat. Skiving was pain and messy, but I am currently using it.

Now that I am posting, there are tons to improve…but I am glad I got a new hobby. I‘m very excited thinking about what to build next.

I made the Brigantine by DS Leather Goods with rancho brown Horween Essex. The strap D-Rings are made from black Horween Dublin. I went with the Loxx closure purely for the looks! :). I made this specific one because I really like the look of the gussets. This was my first time making this type and I can see using it in a lot of other bags and purses. The Essex isn't my favorite leather because it kind of feels like finished split...not sure if it is all that way or just the piece I got. Anyhow - Here it is. It was quite fun to make!

I've been ordering from a US based company and their hardware prices just keep soaring. Their quality is really good, but I just can't keep ordering at their prices. In particular, I mostly buy brass and nickel swivel hooks for my leather straps. If anyone else buys these in bulk for their products, could you share where to look for a quality supplier? What companies have you been happy with if you buy premium hardware?

My daughter had some earrings with this kawaii character (I don't know the name) and thought a matching purse would be cool. Yes, I also made a PDF pattern.

Hi I have an option to buy a used techsew 4800 pro or a new cobra class 26. I’d mostly be making bags with straps around 4 mm veg and veg/chrome tanned leather.

I’d mostly be using thread size 210 on top and the bobbin, though it’d be nice to use 270 if needed.

Can I use the cobra class 26 with thread 210 on the top and the bobbin on all my projects, or is that pushing it?
Has anyone used 270 on it?

Can the techsew 4800 really use 270 on the top and the bobbin?

This is my first time trying to design my own project, and also my first bag. I'm making a bag that can be used to hold this book for LARP and want to make sure I'm measuring this right because I actually got decent leather for this project.

I'm using two colors for this project, and my thought is to use a single U of one color to do the front bottom and back of the bag, and then use the sides being a different leather.

Will measuring it this way actually give me the accurate size I would need the sheets to be?

I would also appreciate any advice for bag making.

Hello ! I wanted to make sheath for my Opinel,and to include the sharpening stone. But the Opinel is cylindrical and the stone is about the same height, which seemed incompatible. I decided to have them side by side, and will add the fire steel on the other side of the Opinel. Criticism is welcome ! This is leather for testing.
