Venum is trash, their customer service is also trash.

I bought a pair of impact Evo gloves (16oz) from Amazon. Not a 3rd party seller, but amazon.com which venum wholesales to.

On day 40, 10 days after the return lapsed, the stitching on the outside of one glove is starting to unravel.

Just to help anyone up front, I am a Cyclist and I have a very undeveloped upper body. So this is a bad sewing job.

I reached out to venum and they said they won't cover it. They won't replace the glove. I actually have to go through my Amazon prime card because Chase Bank will resolve it.

Just make sure you don't have a similar experience.

Technique/Tips What bad habits should I avoid?

I have started fighting muay thai last week ( I've done 4 classes so far) and I'm loving it! I hear my coach as much as possible, but he has other people who need attention as well, given that he is not a personal trainer. So I wonder sometimes if I'm developing some habits that are going to be really annoying to get rid off in the future. If you can list what bad habits are most important to avoid/most common as a begginner, I would be much grateful!

I really struggle with sweeps. Any tips?

Hi guys,

I have been training muay thai 4x a week for almost a year now and there's one thing I have struggled with from the off. Sweeping.

I used to train a lot of Japanese Jujitsu, so I am used to more of a hip throw or a trip style of sweeping. both of which are obviously illegal in muay thai.

When we train sweeps in class I really feel like I'm just trying to brute force it and half the time just end up booting my partners leg (which I'm sure they don't appreciate).

You guys got any advice on this? everything just feels a bit unnatural at the moment when it comes to sweeps

Buy/Sell/Trade Looking for gloves that are similiar to twins but have better wrist support

I’ve had twins gloves for almost two years now and they need a change. And i like the size and durability and how they fit but i guess i would really appreciate a better wrist support. And also if they could be around the similiar price range as the twins. I would use them for everything from bag work and pads to sparring and drills. Thanks guys.

Changing weight class

I’ve got my first first on Saturday at 57kg I walk around at like 60kg . Obviously not too much weight to cut but I’m 5ft11 and want to fight at like 61/63.5 so walk around at around 65/66. How would I go about doing this . Also I might just gain all of the weight in 1 week after the fight by eating banoffee pie

Technique/Tips Beginner Advice

Hi, I am an absolute newbie when it comes to martial arts, but have recently gotten interested in trying it out. Muay Thai is the one that interests me the most. As a complete beginner, what are some things I can do to prepare for my first visit to a Muay Thai gym? Equipment, mindset, clothes, exercises or videos I can do/watch to prepare? Thank you!

Technique/Tips Going to Koh Samui

I’m visiting Koh Samui in a few days and wanted to visit a few gyms in the area to train, and just experience what it’s like to train at a Muay Thai focused gym.

It’s been about two years since I last trained since I moved around a few times, so I’m kinda nervous to get back into it, especially in Thailand. Any advice/tips? Maybe thoughts and prayers too? Lol

Technique/Tips Ankle issues

Hello, whenever I kick, my ankle hurts someone similar to a small sprain. My coach says my kicks are fine and that im contacting at shin, so I narrowed it down to my weak ankles from constant injury during high school basketball. Is there anything I can do to solve this without ankle braces? I hate the feeling of wearing one. Thank you!

Footwear that don't absorb outside moisture?

Upvotes

I've been doing MT for almost a year now, and I told myself I would get over stepping in other people's sweat puddles (I have sensory problems). Well as you can tell from this post, obviously not! Especially since it's hot now so everything is intensified. People are constantly drying the sweat with a mop, but it gets outdone immediately afterwards. Also, I'm not teeping as much as I should during sparring because the feeling of sinking my foot into a saturated shirt is.... you know.
One of my instructors says I can wear wrestling shoes. My main concern is I don't want to hurt my opponent. I was also wondering if there's socks that have a waterproof sole or something? I want to be able to pivot on my feet still effortlessly.
I would only have footwear for the warmer months or when the heavy sweaters are present. I like being barefoot otherwise. Please give your honest opinions. I know I'm being dramatic🙂

Technique/Tips What are people’s experience with acute back injuries from training?

Currently sore upper, mid and lower back/hips, after two days training, sparring and core exercises I don’t usually do. Back felt tight and was spasming after training, and gradually was sore to move and lay down. 24 hours after still sore but not spasming.

I ate kicks on my left body which wrapped around to my back a week ago (which I’m thinking triggered this) and felt stiffness in between training this week then it hit me after second session.

Guy got banned from my gym

Hi! I just wanted to share this story for any awareness for anyone in case you needed to check yourself or resonate:

There was this dude at my Muay Thai gym who literally came out of nowhere. He’s been there for a year I think and he’s always been a little weird and made people uncomfortable.

He would come in late for classes, like we’re talking 30mins late; go insanely hard during sparring to the point where he gave my best friend a black eye, concussion and bloody nose, and anytime someone would match his energy in sparring, he would bitch about it to that sparring partner and tell them to “watch it”; and then the days where he would be early for classes, he would just hop on the mats and start shadow boxing and stretching while there was a FULL PACKED class going on. It’s almost as if he thought he was the owner or he had no social cues or his ego was through the roof.

He would also leave class early when he was done or tired. We have a fighters class and he would leave when the clinch portion started which is like the last 20 mins. Other times he would just walk off the mats and leave. He would also leave his weights lying around and others would have to put it away

Anytime someone would try to teach him something, he would respond and say “oh yeah I’ve been doing this since I was a little kid I know” - even the coaches or the top fighters in our gym still expand their knowledge and still remain students… he would even say the same things when coaches were trying to teach him.

When he would come in, he wouldn’t even go to the guys bathroom to change, he would just change in the common area where we have cubby’s and everyone passes by and puts their stuff there or chats there before class…

There was also this one day where he went into the bathroom, completely barefoot, took a fat poop, and then came back out… I only know this because one of my friends was in the bathroom at the same time so when he came out, my friend was able to identify him because no one else went into the bathroom during that time.

My gym just celebrated its anniversary and he made everyone entirely uncomfortable at the party and was insanely hostile and started punching the pole and shadow boxing for no reason. He kept hitting on my friends making them uncomfortable and he was talking shit to my other friend.

He’s just hostile in general and truly, made everyone uncomfortable and not want to be around him.

Idk if any of this seems bad to you all but it was actually so much worst than what I’m typing. But guys, don’t be this person lol

Update: they informed him his membership was canceled and that he was no longer welcome back and he took accountability and said he understood his behavior was unacceptable (actually shocked about this one because I thought he’d play victim)

Is heavy bag at home worth it for beginner

Hello everyone. I’m just getting into Muay Thai in the last few weeks and find myself wanting to practice at home between classes. Is having a heavy b bag at home beneficial or does it just instill bad habits? If it is worth it can I just get a normal heavy bag like an everlasting until I can justify getting a nice fairtex bag? I was thinking of I get a bag off market place I could use the filling to fill the fairtex down the line.

Where would you mount a 6ft banana bag in a small garage?

I'm about to install a 6ft Fairtex HB6 banana bag in my garage and wanted to get some opinions before I drill the ceiling mount.

I've got a dedicated 3 × 2 m matted training area in the back corner of the garage. Behind the bag is the back wall, on the left are built-in sliding cupboards, and on the right is my treadmill. The front opens into the rest of the garage.

My original thought was to mount the bag slightly forward to give myself more room to work from the front, but now I'm wondering if dead centre is actually the better option. That would give me roughly 1.5 m of space in front and 1.5 m behind, so the bag has equal room to swing and I'd have equal space to move around it.

For those of you with home garage setups, where would you mount it? Would you keep it dead centre or offset it slightly? I'd love to hear what has worked for you before I commit to drilling the ceiling.

Muay Thai fans today

So I remember in the early 2000s to the early 2010s I felt like there was a good amount of fans of sport of Muay Thai. Like there were UFC fans. They follow fighters etc, but recently I feel like I run into a lot people that like training Muay Thai but don’t really care about watching it like a sport. Feel like it’s shifting more and more to that.

Wonder if anyone else has noticed this and if so why do you think this is the case.

Gyms in Houston / anyone want to grab dinner Friday ?

Hi all!

I’m in the army and will be in Houston for a pre-deployment event. All my friends in my unit will have their family with them, but due to unfortunate circumstances, I will be alone. Thought I would find a cool gym to go train at Friday night.

Likewise, if anyone from the Muay Thai community wants to grab dinner on Friday that would mean a lot. Sucks when you have to be alone in the military.

Definitely trying to hit up a BBQ spot and potentially a brewery.

Edit- my wife is currently not in the country and no other family was available to go.
