Very difficult solo to memorize! All the intricacies and the small changes between the motifs really threw me off until I finally got them right

Changed my mouthpiece from a Roseau jdx 5 to a Yany ac 140 or whatever it is called. Came with the sax. Also played something non-improvised this time, and I didn’t really count the breaks so ignore them being off sometimes. There are some intentional scoops, and a handful, not too many, unintentional.

I’m learning to play the saxophone. When changing notes without slurring, do I always have to touch the reed with my tongue? When should the airflow be cut off?

started playing bari sax about 9 months ago, been playing alto for about 2.5 years and for bari i am struggling to hit any notes from low F down and sometimes even the middle D, E, F range too

(the sax has been serviced and checked multiple times so i doubt its to do with the instrument so....)

when i started out i used a 3.0 rico reed (because it was all i had at the time) and was actually fine playing most notes, including the lower range (but didnt sound very good as i was still getting used to it). now i have been playing for longer and switched to a plastic reed as i was gifted and when i tried it it seemed more comfortable to play with (any reason why??) but now am struggling with the lower register and some other notes

when i try to play lower lots of different things happen its rly weird usually it will jumps up one octave, sometimes two, sometimes i swear it jumps up an octave to a completely random note (but not squeaking) or just does not make any sound. i have read about loosening my jaw and embouchure (but i was never really taught about like face muscles and stuff) but i dont struggle at all to play the low register on alto so i am quite confused :( also i used a neck strap if that changes anything

any advice would be great cuz i rly feel like im not improving at all ty

(also idk if its like supposed to be like this but when im playing high G up the sound changes a lot like it feels like it becomes really really airy and light compared to like a middle D which has a bit of a raspy kinda sound...?)

I have a straight Jupiter soprano saxophone, and wanted to upgrade from the stock mouthpiece I have. My budget is under $60 and I just want something temporary I can use for school concert band and jazz band before buying professional mouthpieces.
I found the better sax classic mouthpiece and it says that it does OK with playing classical for concert band and is able to play a little bit of jazz. Will this be a good temporary investment or should I just get a Yamaha 5C instead?
Note: Soprano is not my main instrument alto comes first, but I would eventually like to switch over or play both for a career

I just recently bought three boxes of 3.5 Boston Sax Reeds (red, silver, and black). I recently played one of the same brand, same strength, albeit not either of the aforementioned. It played great, projects well, but these new ones sound stuffy AF. Doesn’t matter if I’m using my Jody Jazz DV or my Selmer soloist mouthpieces. I was expecting something vastly different. I guess I have to work on them or something, but I’m a little irate to say the least. I’m gonna be really upset if all of these reeds suck. Has anyone experienced anything similar with these particular reeds of their own?

What are some fun, good song recommendations for a beginner playing the tenor saxophone?

Ideally something I could play over the backing track, kind of like a saxophone karaoke.

I switched from a Yamaha AD200II to a Martin Committee III. The first thing I noticed, and still notice months after switching, is that the horn is loud. The same air pressure produces way more volume and it's a bit tough to play subtly.

My teacher remarked on it when hey played it as well. Before he played it, he just thought I liked to play louder and suggested a stiffer reed to keep the dynamics more under control.

I don't necessarily mind it, but it does bug me how difficult it is to play quiet dynamics on it. Especially because I am going for a sound concept closer to Scott Hamilton who plays very softly/breath-y.

I recently got a 6m alto saxophone. I love the look of vintage cases where its rectangular and has leather on the outside with colorful felt on the inside. I cant seem to find any moder recreation of those cases and I am wondering if anyone knows where to buy one, or if they are even made?

For some odd reason, I decided to throw on a new mouthpiece before heading to a jam. It felt AWFUL, but it really doesn’t show too much I don’t think. Out of curiosity, do you hear anyone in my playing? I’m curious to see if anyone is coming out. Thanks :)

I'm looking for someone who can write some alto sax accompaniment music for our praise and worship band! I have sheet music and chords but I'm not talented enough to just play along by ear I need sheet music!

I’ve always loved the sound of the sax and have finally decided I must learn to play. I will be spending 2 weeks out of every month in New Orleans and will look to find somebody there to teach me. I am willing to spend up to $1500 on an instrument as well as $400 or so per week on lessons. Any recommendations on what to buy and / or how to find an instructor in New Orleans.

I'm heading into Highschool after the Summer for a music program where I will be required to play my Alto Saxophone everyday for the next four years of my high school life. Except, I've never gotten myself a good, high quality saxophone before and after making it into the school with only 20 slots available, I thought now was the perfect time to get one.

I'm that I'd regret my decision after getting the alto saxophone because that's happened to me once where I got a Saxophone that was ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE just because I got a cheaper one.

I think a intermediate sax should be fine? If anyone has any suggestions on what model I should get please help! THANK YOU SO MUCH!

Is everyone else’s timeline getting bombarded by Ridgeclub’s looper and sax? Any favorites so far or is it too far left from jazz to really dive deep into?

Hello everyone! I recently acquired a Meyer 5M mouthpiece for very cheap because it smelled/tasted horribly like sulphur and the owner couldn't play it. I read a few things about removing the taste/odor and then went to town on it with a magic eraser (melamine). The smell/taste is gone now but unfortunately, I did not read about avoiding the table/rails/tip until after the fact.

As a beginner, I'm not sure if I can tell if meaningful damage was caused or not. I'm wondering if I actually caused damage and should cut my losses and go back to my other hard plastic mouthpiece, or keep playing on the Meyer. It plays "fine", but I don't have a new one to compare it to. I'd hate to continue learning on something that is a handicap.

Hey, I'm looking for advice as to whether it would be a good idea to study jazz performance in uni or not. Im 17, just about to finish up highschool, dont really know what I want to do. Im very creative and have played sax for about 6 years, and want to improve and make friends by going to uni. I need to audition for the uni but I don't know if im good enough to get in. What do I have to know prior to going into uni? Any advice? How good do I have to be? I can play about grade 7 stuff pretty okay but I'm unconfident at sigh reading, alllll of my scales, and intonation, but i can do improv over blues and pentatonic scales to some degree. My plans are to focus reallllyy hard on learning the stuff I listed now before I go, but is that a realistic idea? I'm not going to any flash uni, just a local one.
