I'm in two minds whether to report this guy. I felt intimidated, but he didn't actually do anything.

He got on the train with music blaring on some device, and sat across two seat a couple of seats in front of me. He smelled strongly of rotting oranges, which I think was actually some kind of alcohol. He was nodding along to his music, looking around at people like he was daring them to say something. The song was was Killing in the Name, which didn't help the vibe.

The person opposite him got off at the next station, and he moved to opposite someone else.

He got off at Southern Cross along with half the carriage. And then turned off his music.

Would you report it? I'm not fussed about the loud music or the alcohol themselves, and wouldn't worry if he'd just sat there not looking at everyone. It felt like it could turn nasty.

Edit: I have reported it now. Feels like dobbing.

Edit 2: seems like they either changed how STOPIT works, or I did it wrong last time. I texted a description of the incident, and received a text saying I should have just texted the word STOPIT to the number (0499 455 455). So I did that, and they texted me a link to a form. The form just asks for date, time, category of incident, carriage number, etc. No description. Seems like they just want enough information to review the CCTV footage and decide for themselves.

Wasn't sure whether to post this here or in Melbourne, but am I missing something with trying to view disruption information on the PTV app? For both planned and unplanned.

The website says to hit set notifications under alerts and then you can add your favourite stop or route, but theres no subheadings there to add anything. Only sliders for myki alerts etc...

:v My map idea for the network. Forgot a V/Line route to Healesville or the SRL, but it's good enough we got Doncaster line, Airport line, City Loop Reconfiguration and Metro Tunnel 2 in here.

I sent PTV a feedback form about Frankston trains via city loop showing “Terminates at Flinders Street Station” just before arrival, even though it’s the same physical train that continues to Frankston. I was pleasantly surprised they replied so quickly. They explained it’s due to a new service ID and operational reasons like driver changes, timetables and disruption management.

Am I the only one who’s noticed this, or does it confuse others too? I would have thought a simple message like “This train continues to Frankston as the next service - remain on board” (where applicable) could avoid the confusion without affecting timetables. Or is it much more complicated than that?

Which of the suburban train lines has the most boring neighbourhood around the last station and which ones have interesting stuff near the last station?

Visiting melb for 4 days with my kids (6 and 8). I’ve read that under-18s travel free in Victoria, is this applies to tourists too? Do we still need to buy them each a $5 Youth myki card, or is there a way around that since we only here briefly?

At a glance, Dandenong Station is Melbourne's busiest suburban train-bus interchange: 24 connecting routes, more than anywhere else in the network.

But if we count bus services instead of routes, and it falls to 8th place. Frankston drops even further, from 2nd to 19th.

X'Trapolis 2.0 set 9 delivered to Newport Workshop tonight from Alstom Ballarat

Are all VL sets ordered, now built and running or just the last 2-3 remaining for the year to complete the order.

You have to tap "see all" to find it among the 14 total results. Terrible app design. During peak hour on my cheap 4G-only plan, it takes a good 10 seconds just to load the results too. Frustrating!

Has anyone tried it and saw it switched on as full rollout is Sunday 26th July

Recently I’m been investigating what good transit cities do well and I’ve found that they usually always have good TOD (Transit Oriented Development).

I think Sydney has been doing this well because of their geographical restrictions. Melbourne however has a lot more land available to sprawl the city, we are at risk of having a city that’s too sprawled when we can also allow some TOD.

It’s honestly a bit ridiculous that we don’t have much TOD here apart from select areas like Box Hill, & certain corridors like the metro tunnel line. People deserve the opportunity to have a suburban apartment with train access, but right now you’re almost forced to have a house or pay too much for a city apartment.

It would also allow much improved frequencies to be justified.
