There are many now asking for money but many people most likely do not have excess income to be able to donate to 3-8 different groups and would love to chose one that would be best use of their dollar.

MOD Announcement PICA (AKA “assault weapon ban”, “high capacity magazine ban”, AWB.) Information!

NEW PICA MEGA THREAD

Again please do not make “Is this gun legal post”

There are a lot of people in this sub giving good information but few I’ve seen giving wrong information. For all questions regarding PICA (AWB) and all the laws regarding it; please see the ISP website before asking questions in the sub. All information is available there.

All registration information is on the ISP website There will be a affidavit form released in October for those of you who are concerned with registration. Registration period is 10/01/23 - 1/01/24.

Those of us in the sub who are active will post lawsuit updates when they become available, you can also follow Freedom’s Steel on YouTube for updates. It’s unlikely this law will be struck down before January, we are all hopeful but be prepared to act accordingly if it is not.

Legal options are: •Sell all AWB guns to an FFL •Store all AWB guns out of state, Illinois has no legal authority over them then. •Register all AWB guns with the state when the registration becomes available. •Destroy all your AWB guns.

The below list has a flow chart at the end to determine if a gun is legal or not.

General Post Shooting group for kids

Upvotes

Does anyone know of any shooting clubs or groups for kids near peoria? Was thinking of seeing if my kid would be interested in target shooting or something. I don't think she would like trap/skeet shooting at her age.

Any ideas?

Gun Laws Which form to ship handguns through USPS?

Upvotes

Per the ATF's own website, it's now legal for the USPS to accept handgun shipments from a non-FFL, so long as it's going to an FFL. Upon getting to the post office though, the only form they have (surprise surprise) has a line at the top saying "this can only be used by manufacturers or dealers of firearms."

Not finding anything but 404s in terms of the forms on either the ISP/USPS/ATF's websites, so I figured I'd ask here. I sold this gun for only $170, so paying $30 or whatever to have an FFL ship it for me seems like a bit of a waste considering that it's already fully packaged and ready to go.

HUNTING New Hunting Rifle Recommendation

Hello,

I’m looking to buy a straight wall rifle for deer season. Was interested in a bolt action but what models do you recommend, and which ones should I avoid? Mossberg, Ruger, Winchester, Savage, CVA, etc. Thank for your input.

Weapon Question Stribog SP9A3...

I understand that maybe the SP9A3 rifle/fixed stock variant + fin grip w/ 10 round mag is legal in IL e.g. https://www.millermountainoutdoors.com/rifles/semi-automatic-rifles/gp-stribog-sp9a3-9mm-16bb810091158173

Q1 - Am I right?

Q2 - Curious if anyone has taken these and replaced the fixed stock with another chassis or stock that is also a fin grip, fixed stock (not looking to skirt PICA compliance, but looking to accomplish a specific build).

Asking because I am evaluating these against a Ruger PC Carbine...

We now have an official circuit split on the issues of so-called “assault weapons” and “high-capacity magazines.”

More good news in light of the Viramontes case being granted cert by SCOTUS.

General Post Brought my new Benelli SBE3 home from the FFL and found some damage on my barrel. Do I have any recourse?

Post image
22 Upvotes

I was extremely excited to bring home my new duck gun. It’s by far the most expensive firearm I’ve ever bought and it’s a huge upgrade from my Mossberg 500 pump. Unfortunately I didn’t see these scratches at the FFL and I completed the transfer. I already reached out to Guns.com but I’m not sure if they’ll be able to do anything because I already took ownership.

Has this happened to any of you guys before? Do you have any advice on what I should do? I really want my new $2500 gun to be in perfect condition just on principle. I know it’ll get beat up eventually but I’m just bummed after being so excited to get it.

Legal Questions Unarmed security guard and CCL

So my friend works for a security company overnights he has a CCL and is very adamant that he is legally allowed to carry since he’s on patrol with his own personal veichal and as long as he isn’t using his firearm for “security duties” like an armed guard would he is legally in the clear. I tried telling him the law doesent work that way and he needs to take an armed guard class if he wants to bring his firearm.

I wasn’t able to find a specific law that states unarmed guards can’t have a firearm in there own personal vehicles but say a cop was to stroll by and find out he was an unarmed guard with a firearm no shot the cop would be like “yep you have CCL so your all good”

Would love to hear your thoughts!

FOID/CCL Looking for CCL Instructor Organizations that are NOT affiliated with the USCCA

Hi everybody! I've been a part-time CCL instructor for the past few years. I've been certified through the USCCA, but I'm curious to find other organizations that are recognized by the ISP to certify instructors.

One of my reasons for this inquiry is that the USCCA requires instructors to register 20 new students each year (no renewals or other types of classes, just the full 16-hour curriculum). Because I do this part time and prefer to teach more hands-on 1:1 or small classes, reaching the quota every year can be a challenge. If I don't meet the quota, I have to pay ~$700 and retake their instructor course once a year.

Thank you for your time!

New to Guns Basic Rifle Recap

Post image
65 Upvotes

Yesterday's Basic Rifle course at the Will County Sportsman's Club was a great time.

We gave new shooters what I'd call a sampler platter of rifle shooting. Students started on .22 bolt actions from the bench to build solid fundamentals before stepping up to larger calibers. From there we moved into lever actions and finally semi automatic rifles, shooting from the bench, supported positions, and standing.

Of course, it wouldn't be a Common Caliber class if we didn't push things a little further. Once everyone was comfortable with the basics, we introduced a few tactical drills pulled from our more advanced courses like Defensive Rifle, giving students a taste of what comes next.

We appreciate everyone who came out and trusted Common Caliber with your training. Seeing new shooters build confidence and leave with a stronger skill set is what it's all about.

If you missed this one, don't worry. Our Girls Only Pistol class is coming up on July 26, and our new Vehicle Defense course kicks off on August 9. We hope to see you there.

HUNTING Any Will County hunters here?

Just saw I got deer tags for Will County so it looks like my choices this year will be stand by at Des Plaines or trying for one of the slots at Midewin. Anyone familiar with the chances of actually getting to hunt either? Expectations aren’t too high since it’s my first season but it would suck to drive all the way there and not even get to sit out and try.

Also got muzzleloader in Pope and turkey in Apple River State Park if anyone happens to have advice on those. Planning on using 12g for all of it.
