I can't believe I need to say this but there have been a few situations in the last few months of people posting their new builds in questionable configurations and later removing their posts which sadly necessitates me making this post.
Please, be absolutely sure of your build's legality/configuration before uploading a picture to show it off. You never know who may be monitoring the sub. If you aren't absolutely sure, figure it out before posting a picture.
In the past, with rifles the NJ AWB compliance was fairly standard so posting pictures was generally not an issue in the normal configurations. For example, it isn't really easy to tell if the muzzle device is P&W'ed or not just by a picture, especially depending on the angle. So generally there weren't many glaringly wrong builds that needed to get removed. Now with the rise of "other" firearms in the last few years, this has opened up a whole new can of worms. I understand the desire to put together an "other" yourself given the flexibility vs a AWB compliant rifle build, but it is very important you understand what you are doing and exactly what needs to be done to end up with a NJ legal configuration. If you mess it up and upload a picture you could be showing proof of a NFA violation or possession of a NJ assault firearm which might be able to be traced back to you.
Know the difference between a pistol brace and a stock. Use must the appropriate one on an "other" build, which is a pistol brace.
Know the impact using a folding adapter has on OAL measurement for "other" firearms. With a folding adapter, the OAL is measured with it in the folded position. This generally puts you in NFA AOW land OAL wise (sub 26" OAL) so you must have an approved NFA stamp before using one in your build.
Know the impact of removing or detaching parts from your "other" build. You cannot remove your VFG for storage or otherwise detach it to fit the firearm in a case, the VFG is a fundamental part of it being an "other" and must be present and remain attached.
If you don't know the legal requirements for the firearm type you are trying to build or modify, please do your research before doing so. If you purchased one from a NJ dealer in compliant form that is one way to go to avoid needing to know all of this. However, if you plan to make modifications later on, you will need to do the same research to make sure you don't accidentally get out of compliance.

While this is an exciting time, take a deep breath: many laws still apply after the mandate takes place. Don't get caught in a legal battle because you misunderstood the current legal landscape.
Here is a recap of the critical information:
The mandate will stop the restriction on magazines. There are no specific legal definitions separating rifle, pistol, or shotgun magazines—they are simply magazines. Yes, you can have a 30-round magazine in your AR and a 17-round magazine in your Glock, despite the pistol AWB remaining in place.
The only part of NJ's assault weapon ban specifically declared unconstitutional applies to rifles. The named list of banned rifles (such as the M1 Carbine) and NJ's specific rifle "evil features" definitions no longer exist.
Those repealed evil feature restrictions previously applied to semi-automatic rifles accepting detachable magazines with two or more of the following:
*Folding or telescoping stock
*A pistol grip that protrudes conspicuously beneath the action of the weapon
*Bayonet mount
*Flash suppressor, or threaded barrel designed to accommodate a flash suppressor
*Grenade launcher mount
The rifle AWB repeal does NOT repeal the pistol or shotgun AWB, nor does it legalize suppressors or short-barreled rifles (SBRs) in New Jersey. "Pistol" style ARs remain effectively off the table, for the time being. Pistol and shotgun AWB rulings were remanded to NJ courts, which must still officially rule them unconstitutional. This will take time. Additionally, a separate case regarding suppressors and another for SBRs is currently moving through the state court system. This will also take time.
You MAY be able to convert your "Other" into a rifle. Federal regulations strictly require a rifle to have an overall length of at least 26" and a barrel length of at least 16". These are non-negotiable. Note that overall length for a rifle is measured in its longest configuration (e.g., with a folding stock extended). If your muzzle device is permanently pinned and welded (P&W), it counts toward barrel length (e.g., a 14.5" barrel with a muzzle device that adds 1.5" to the total barrel length with a P&W, while also accounting for the ~0.6" of thread overlap).
Do not, under any circumstances, put a stock on your "Other" if the barrel is under 16". That creates an illegal SBR, and NJ will likely make an example out of you.
Beyond that, virtually every other NJ gun law remains in full effect—including laws governing transport, ammunition, carry permits, transfers, and purchasing. Refresh yourself on these rules before taking any action.
Also, as it currently stands, until the mandate goes through, nothing has officially changed. The odds of AWB and mag laws being enforced is very low, but this is just a reality of the situation. Things could change at a moments notice, and you don't want to be in possession of this stuff. You're all adults though, so I don't need to lecture you on this.

The most spiteful thing that NJ Democrats could do at this point is keep some sort of "Assault Weapons Regulation" in the fashion of putting all Semiautomatic Firearms under the NJ Permit To Purchase a Handgun Law (This almost happened in 2022 after Uvalde).
That includes all the deviation and movement restrictions and the notoriously aggressive enforcement of it all.
I know that NJ has an "Assault Weapons License" Stipulation in the now (MOSTLY) defunct 1990 Florio Gun Ban. Maybe NJ puts them under NJ CCW Permit Law.
Regardless; New Jersey looks like the "Bellwether" of the Battle For The 2nd Amendment going forward.

Posting this to provide a lawyers nuanced view of possible action NJ may pursue regarding the 3rd circuit opinion. In the video Kirk goes through the difference between a Stay and an Injunction and how they can be applied to the court decisions in VA and NJ's laws. Don't be surprised if NJ is granted a stay pending the outcome of the pending SCOTUS awb cases.

What's the suggestion on the very best flash hider which will reduce some noise, some concussion and possible recoil management?
I own a Geissele Super Duty MOD1 5.56 nato with the precision Armanent hypertap muzzle brake. It's great other than the intense concussion and noise at an indoor range.
Hey yall I have some questions. I was born and raised in nj, but the past few years ive been living in PA. my folks still live in NJ and i occasionally go to the range with my father near my hometown. my question is with this ban being lifted i guess what all exactly does it include? as i own a couple rifles with underfolding stocks/threaded muzzles. as well as an AK "pistol" will i now be able to bring these firearms to the range in NJ when i come back home to go shooting with my father? thanks in advance.

So are belt feds back on the menu?… i know its not a magazine but is it lifted on the assault weapon ban reversal?
I've had my NJ permit and am looking to stack a few non-resident permits to maximize where I can carry when traveling. I've heard PA is a no-brainer since there's no training requirement and I can just walk into a county sheriff's office. After that I'm seeing Florida and Utah come up a lot. Is that still the move in 2026? Anyone in a similar situation who has done this? What did you end up getting and was it worth it?

I always wanted a MP5SD but I came to terms with waiting til I moved because NJ is NJ. I saw Century Arms made the clone and last year I asked if it was legal or could be made legal. The advice I got was to make it into an AOW.
Well with this new ruling does that change anything with that? Would I still need to make it into an AOW?
Sorry if this seems like a repetitive post saying as I asked a year ago.

All 10 Judges that voted to strike it all down were great. This En Banc Ruling from the 3rd Circuit is bigger than I initially thought.
Contrary to the 4th Circuit and 7th Circuit, all the text points were graphic, concise, precise, and factually accurate in striking down the 1990 Florio Gun Ban.
There were no political "oxymorons" or contradictions in the text. No filibusters and irrelevant info fluffed inI like the way everything was summarized, and to paraphrase the overall ruling, it simply says:
'If police, security contractors, and government workers have right to access these so called assault weapons and large capacity magazines, then so do private civilians. These firearms are overwhelmingly used more often than not for any and all possible lawful purposes that outweigh criminal misuse'.
