AWB We have begun reaching out to companies and orgs regarding the AWB and their policies/next steps.
Just to give you guys some details on what Glenn and I are working on behind the scenes. We have reached out to most major retailers and big orgs regarding what they plan on doing regarding the upcoming ban on 7/1. Shipping policies, blanket bans, AR/AK pistols, etc etc etc, as well as what guidance or steps anyone on the big org side of things (NSSF, SAF, FPC, GOA, NAGR, etc) have taken or are taking.
As soon as we know more, we will share with the community.
If you have heard anything on your end, please feel free to use this thread to share.
We are also making a new AWB flair to tag your AWB related questions/discussions.
We have some unfortunate news regarding the how the AG plans on interpreting the law regarding lowers and "pistols" - please read more here as this new information likely renders a lot of the below information moot unfortunately.
This is why it is so important that we disaffiliate and vote for Joe Solomons for AG - he voted against the AWB, and presumably would issue better guidance to such things (we are confirming his position still).

AWB AWB Megathread
I know things are going to get muddy - so we've decided to put up a megathread to stay up for the foreseeable future.
HUUUUUUUGE asterisk here - IANAL, nor is glenn, nor NET, nor smoke (to my knowledge). None of this is legal advice. And until we get someone like Chas or Mike or Frank in here for a Q&A or if you attend one of the various 2A events where various lawyers have discussed previous iterations of this bill with us, or have time with an attorney, or are ultimately some part of this is brought before a judge that isn't openly hostile to the 2A - we're simply not going to know. Proceed with you and your family's own risk profile when it comes to compliance or not
What Passed
What does this mean
You will no longer be able to purchase things that meet the state's definition of an assault weaponprohibited firearm.
The "good" news the definition is a little watered down from the original house language - primarily focusing on just semi-auto rifles, and largely leaves shotguns and pistols alone.
It also does not criminalize possession, nor require you to have any proof or permission slips from the government.
Prohibited Firearm is defined as a semi-automatic firearm of the below definitions
Shotguns with fixed magazines over 6 rounds or a revolving cylinder. (Pump/lever still okay generally speaking)
Rifles with fixed magazine capacity greater than 10 rounds, or detachable magazines and have any one of the following:
Folding or telescoping stock
Bayonet mount
Grenade launcher
Barrel shroud
Pistol grip or thumbhole stock
Flash suppressor or threaded barrel
Pistols with fixed magazines over 10 rounds.
Belt-fed firearms
This mean you cannot buy more of the above in a year (July 1st, 2026), but you can retain what you have - though you cannot pass it down to your children apparently - DiPalma was a real dick when questioned about that, hell even Knight wasn't that much of a dbag about that.
Incredibly important note:
- We all recognize the loopholes in this ban, because we actually know how firearms work, and we should take advantage of the fact that this law was written by idiots who barely know what side of the gun the bullet comes out of, however DO NOT post about them too publicly. These jackasses WILL amend the law further before it even takes effect.
FAQ
- Can I still buy lowers after the ban?
Depends on how FFLs interpret it and feel about the risk, but likely yes, as a stripped lower does not fit the above definition. That being said - the AG is seemingly on a warpath against lowers and ar/ak pistols., sending threatening guidance to some FFLs.
- What if I have parts laying around? Is there constructive intent?
The constructive intent verbiage was removed from the senate bill that passed. That doesn't mean you might not get jammed up, but at that point you have bigger problems.
- My CCW has a threaded barrel! My Shotgun has a threaded choke! Am I screwed?
No - pistols and shotguns were left more or less untouched in this bill as they would have significant detrimental impact to hunting, shooting sports, and CCW (which would fly even more in the face of the Heller and McDonald decision than this law already does. You need to mainly worry about your semi-auto rifles with removeable mags.
- What are we doing to overturn this?
The necessary organizations are aware of the situation. Renew your memberships with places like the FPC, SAF, NAGR, etc... Let the experts handle this. Continue to shitpost on reddit/X/FB/IG/your sister's ass/etc... Hit the range. Be smart. Be safe. Get involved locally. Watch this sub for details as stuff comes up.
After the recent round of SCOTUS decisions that went out way in Hermani and Wolford, plus the SCOTUS taking up Viramontes, we feel very good about this. Here's an analysis the folks over at parabellum put together
- Ok, but what are WE doing to overturn this?
2026 will be a watershed moment for us. They've made it very clear (I'm trying to get clips of what Bell, DiPalma, and Mack said during the debate) that they will not stop here, and will work tirelessly to get the original house bill passed next year. Even the Sec State has said as much publicly. We cannot give them another inch. If we do not make a showing at the polls in '26 the original bill will be the least of our worries - next they will come for body armor, criminalize possession, and a slew of other unconstitutional nonsense.
We will have a scorecard/roster of who are 2A friendly, and who are not. Who to support, and who to oppose. Disaffiliate now if you haven't already which gives you two chances to vote against these assholes, once in the primary, and then again in the general (you can vote for whoever you want in the general regardless of affiliation status).
Take a friend or family member shooting who hasn't shot before. Take a friend in a marginalized group who might feel threatened in the current climate, and explain to them what the state has been doing regarding their rights to defend themselves and their loved ones. Be kind, be empathetic, don't be preachy.
I've lived in NY, NJ, and CT, I believe glenn was NY and/or NJ as well. We've lived under ban states and far worse regimes and laws than this and carried on with our love for the sport. We will survive. We will persevere. We can also help us navigate this quagmire.
Perhaps it is ironic or perhaps it is fate that many of us are preparing for 4th of July BBQs in the coming weeks.... The immortal words of Bill Pullman echo and live rent free in my head. We will once again be fighting for our freedom. We are fighting for our right to exist. Today the gun owners in RI declared in one voice that we will not go quietly into the night. We will not vanish without a fight. We're going to live on. We're going to survive.
Undercaffinated cringe aside - there will be a lot of work to do in the coming months, but trust that the fight is far from over. We are not waiting on the courts to save us - we are taking control of our own destiny. Stay in the fight. Stay tuned for where we can be most effective. We will send a message. To end on a high note paraphrasing Mr. Kurt Russell as a message to all the despots who voted against our rights you called down the thunder and now you've got it. You tell we're comin', and hell's comin' with us.

Officially on the ballot. Not a bad way to celebrate, huh?
25 Yards, 9mm, p320.
Not the best grouping but I am working on it. I went through 150 rounds today. I've got a few lessons coming up to go over responsible gun safety, ownership, and ccw common sense.
God willing, I'll have my CCP by the end of the month.
Anyway, this is just a post to thank you all for the support. The signatures I got in the begining of the month have been locked in, unchallenged, and I am officially going to be on the ballot in November.
I'm running for US Rep in RI's 1st district against Rep Amo and I'd be honored to receive your support in November. Amo has extremely deep pockets and as a 3rd party I rely on small dollar donations, any financial support would be extremely beneficial. You can find the link to donate on my website, or if the mods don't mind, I'll include it at the bottom of the post.

CCW Licensing CCW application
Does the officer(detective in my case) who is doing your license paperwork ever call you to see if you are home to prove you live at the address where you live? Just had the officer who is doing my license application call me to see if I could come outside to verify my home address?

Law/Legal Curio and Relic Licenses
Are there any advantages for C&R license holders in this current political climate?
And do I understand correctly that R.I. Gen. Law § 11-47-43 would allow a C&R license holder own (within their collection) the weapons which are prohibited under R.I. Gen. Law § 11-47-42?
I'm not seeking legal advice as much as trying to understand what other believe or know.

AWB Stripped Lowers Post 7/1/2026
I’ve been trying to understand how Rhode Island’s AWB that took effect on 7/1/26 is being interpreted in practice.
I just got Surplus Provisions weekly sale email where they are advertising AR pistols and two different stripped AR lowers. I’m genuinely curious how this works under the new law. My understanding was that the intent of the law was to prohibit the sale of semiautomatic rifles, shotguns, and pistols with certain "features".
A few questions for anyone who’s familiar with the legal side of this:
- Are stripped AR-15 lowers still legal to transfer because they’re just receivers and not yet classified as a prohibited firearm?
- Is there guidance from the state or ATF that specifically addresses stripped lowers under Rhode Island’s new law?
- Do people think FFLs selling stripped lowers are on solid legal ground, or is this something that could end up being challenged or clarified by the state? I did read the pinned post and my interpretation was that the large majority of stores are not going to be selling ARPs or lowers so I'm assuming Surplus might be the last one you can buy these from.
Also, not to derail the conversation above but it kind of sucks that the lowers they are selling are "libtard/snowflake/triggered" edition. I get that the majority of gun shops are going to lean more towards the right, but RI is pretty solidly left (afaik) and it feels like they want to alienate customers such as myself. Obviously, I'll just not buy that specific one and continuing supporting 2A and everything, but just seems like it would be simpler to stock regular lower and appeal to all your customers ...

AWB Cancelling gun rights organization support.
It’s officially been a week since our assault weapons ban has taken effect. Trust me I’m not happy about it either… that being said our friends down in Virginia had some of the same legislation pass only to be saved at the last second by an injunction and several courts fighting to maintain their rights.
I feel RI is going to have to depend on scotus’ ruling sometime in summer of 2027 to feel any sort of real reprieve. I have yet to see anything at all from NRA, GOA, FPC or NAGR.
That begs the question…for lack of a better term…what the fuck am I paying for? It’s been crickets from everyone and even filing a suit for the first circuit court to laugh at would be worth the hard earned $$$ I’ve put into these organizations instead of my wallet. Personally I’m done supporting people who are let supporting me back. Hurry up and wait I guess?

CCW Licensing lincoln ccw timeline
just a quick post of the (almost completed) timeline of my ccw process
-qualified on 6/8/26
-application submitted to lincoln pd on 6/9/26
-got a call this morning 7/8/26 saying to go in tomorrow (7/9) to complete fingerprints, photo, and payment
-should be good to pick up tomorrow after the last things are complete if not the day after. ill edit the post whichever day that is done
edit: permit was picked up today about 4 hours after completing my fingerprints/photo and payment
overall im pretty impressed it happened this quick. deff a good route if someone else in here doesnt mind paying $200 for non resident fee and signing off on the mental health waivers. im not the biggest fan of signing off for that but as a new father i had a big sense of urgency to get it done asap. regardless of everything exactly a month after submitting is almost unheard of in RI to my knowledge, even some renewals take longer.
stay safe everyone and happy shooting!

Political Action Help Get a True 2A Candidate on the Ballot for RI-1 (Collecting Signatures This Week)
🗳️ Help Get a True 2A Candidate on the Ballot for RI-1 (Collecting Signatures This Week)
Hey everyone,
My name is Pedro DeSouza, and I am running against Gabe Amo as an Independent candidate for U.S. Representative in Rhode Island's 1st Congressional District.
I want to be entirely transparent with this community, so please ask any questions you have right here in the comments. I welcome the opportunity to answer them and hopefully earn your signature. The signature is not an endorsement, it just ensures I get on the ballot so people can decide if they want to vote for me.
We all just saw the unconstitutional and sweeping gun ban hit our state. While I cannot change state law directly from Washington, I can promise you this: I will fight on a federal level to ensure unconstitutional bans like the one that just passed in Rhode Island are voted down. As your representative, I will vote right alongside other 2A politicians to actively restore our rights. I will work to severely limit the ATF’s power and halt the federal overreach that emboldens state-level restrictions.
📍 Where I will be (and how you can help)
To get my name on the ballot and ensure gun owners actually have a choice this election, I need registered RI District 1 voters to sign my petition.
- Wednesday, 7/8: I’ve cleared my schedule to focus entirely on signatures.
- Thursday, 7/9: I am available from the morning until late afternoon, where I will be collecting signatures and turning them in to their respective City/Town Halls.
- Location Support Needed: I do not have a dedicated shop or setup location yet. If any local business owners, clubs, or members here are willing to let me set up a table or stand outside your shop to gather signatures from fellow gun owners, please let me know.
If you are a registered voter in District 1 and want to help push back against the gun-control agenda, please drop a comment below or send me a direct message so we can connect.
Let us get to work and protect our rights. Thank you for the help!

AWB Post AW ban handgun purchases.
So with all the craziness that has been going on since the AW ban I was focused on buying rifles . Now that we are passed that I’ve been looking into grabbing my first handgun. So I know that i am no longer able to purchase any that have certain features such as a threaded barrel or an unloaded weight of 50 ounces or more , but i saw that it said you cannot purchase one that holds more than 10 rounds of ammunition. I am obviously aware of the mag size limit that we have here but my question is does that mean any semi auto handgun (holding more than 10 rounds) is now off limits completely ? Or is it something that if you bought one that holds more than 10 rounds the store would just block the mag? I know asking a gun store themselves would probably give me the answers i need but i just figured id hop on here and ask as well just to give me an idea on what I should be looking into getting. I’ve been wanting to grab a 1911 which i know is still good to go , but would also like to grab something else as well but i wanna are sure i know what i am still able to buy before I start looking at something that could potentially be off limits . Thanks guys.

Political Action Attention EP gun owners.
Just got this email from the RI2A PAC:
We have a candidate, Brian Coogan, running against the senate president, Val Lawson...the woman who rammed the Assault Weapons Ban through last year. He is 2A friendly and needs to gather signatures to get on the ballot so if you live in East Providence please swing by the address below.
584 Warren Ave
East Providence
5-9 pm, Monday and Tuesday
I personally have received zero correspondence from Val Lawson regarding any gun issues I called or emailed about and when I went to testify in front of the Senate she was ironically absent during my testimony. We need to get her OUT.

2 Spots Left: ShivWorks Training in RI
ShivWorks is holding their premiere Extreme Close Quarters Concepts training coming up on July 17th (5-9pm), 18th (all day), and 19th (all day). The training is being held at Bradford Sportsmen's Club and there are 2 cash/check-only spots left: $775 for the full weekend.
Instruction is provided on functional handgun skills from zero to five feet, a unique problem that requires an interdisciplinary approach. Provided is a template for what we feel are the best practices between verbal and physical skills to avoid, stabilize, and resolve a life-threatening situation within the context of the criminal assault paradigm while armed. After developing new skills, everyone validates the skills through an unscripted evolution. Evolutions are competitive, non-consensual, force-on-force experiences that utilize marking cartridges and protective equipment.
You do not need any martial arts or combative experience to attend this course. You only need the ability to safely deploy your handgun from the holster.
Check out more about the course below and DM me to get signed up.
