freelancers, what do you all do for health insurance? I make around 80k a year so too much to get on medicaid, but too little to pay for a super expensive plan… the plan I have now is $450/mo (with assistance😭, the actual price is 700/mo) and it’s called the gatekeeper plan which basically describes my experience with it. nothing is covered, my adhd meds are $200, etc..

should i just cancel and risk it? or would anyone like to get married to me? sos

If I want to host a small gathering in my home (say for 25 people) but I don't have quite enough plates, silverware, shot glasses etc (and I'm not interested in buying/using paper or plastic...I want nice, elegant dishware, etc.)...and if I also could use a few extra chairs and a folding table...does anyone know if there are place in NYC (Manhattan) where I could rent such stuff?

I'm sure such options exist for rich folk wanting to do a really large and/or upscale catered type event...but I'm looking for something more basic...almost along the lines of Housing Works type customers/mentality....

I'm looking for a NYS licensed massage therapist to provide specific services for related issues of pelvic floor disfunction and hip/lower back tightness. I have found it is impossible to find these services off the shelf and they are not offered through pelvic floor physical therapy (usually 5 minutes or so of any kind of myofacial). I am NOT looking for sexual services , but these are sensitive areas.

hi! i'm in brooklyn and i've been seeing my current obgyn for a year now. she's kind of far from me, she works in the navy yard and that's about 40 minutes but so far it's been worth it because she's very kind. currently i'm having minor birth control problems that i want to speak with her about but the office won't let me do a telehealth appointment. i went in last august and she set me up with my birth control, i had some issues in september and october so i did quick telehealth sessions and we resolved them and i haven't had issues since. now they won't let me have another telehealth with her until i see her in person again.

the issue is that i have agoraphobia and currently i'm in a place where im not able to be outside for more than 30 minutes or so unless it's for work (the fear of losing my job has always been the only thing greater than the fear of the outside for me). this usually only lasts a few months and i have been in therapy for it for about seven years so trust, it's being worked on. i just really want to get this birth control issue fixed. i understand it's very hard for doctors to work with agoraphobic patients because we can't always come in office so i know this is an incredibly tall ask.

i searched google maps in my area just generally for an obgyn and everyone seems to have the most horrifying reviews. curious if anyone knows any good places that take medicaid and won't charge for random tests or treat me badly? thank you so so so much in advance!

So a few days ago, my package was stolen from my apartment building's lobby. I asked my family members who live here as well if they took it and forgot to tell my mother or me.

They said they hadn't seen it, so I contacted the courier and merchant, the courier was somewhat helpful, as they offered help for further steps if my package still hasn't shown up. The merchant, on the other hand, was useless, basically said that the package is marked as delivered on their end and wouldn't refund me or send a replacement. And told me to file a police report instead.

I started the dispute with my credit card company (hopefully I win it). But I'm still unsure if I should file a police report.

Has anyone here filed one with the NYPD? If so, was it resolved?

(My package cost $61.29, so it would be petit larceny)

it’s been 48 hours since i discovered my neighbor’s decomposing body. EMTs said he was dead for at least a week before he was found, so the entire apartment is a serious biohazard and our entire floor smells like literal death. none of the windows in the hallway actually open, so the closest thing to air circulation we have is when my floor’s elevator opens for ten whole seconds.

i know the apartment can’t be touched until it’s unsealed by the medical examiner, but jesus christ the least they could do is get some ozone machines for short-term mitigation. i’ve been constantly spraying the hallway with hospital grade air sanitizer which has still done absolutely nothing to even scratch the surface.

the smell has started to creep into my apartment, and the icing on the cake is the cops left the neighbor’s balcony door open to air out the apartment. which is great, except i live two doors down so i cant even go on my own balcony to get some fresh air without being hit with the sweet smell of putrefaction.

i’m at my wit’s fucking end. what can i even do in this situation???

I’ve lived in NYC all my life and I’m planning on leaving in May 2027 but would like some ideas on side quests to do before I leave that aren’t ridiculous or get me arrested.

I’m working on a presentation regarding how various world tragedies have shaped comedy, and how we use dark humour to cope, and while there’s lots and lots of info online on how the nyc comedy scene was affected by 9/11, I’d love to get an insiders view on what it was like before, to be able to provide a bit of background.

If you’re a comedian or a comedy fan, let me know your thoughts! What were the biggest comedy clubs? Was it common for people to go and see live comedy? Was there a lot of diverse standup comedians from different racial and cultural backgrounds? What did/do New Yorkers think of famous comedies set there such as Seinfeld and Friends?
I’d love to hear any of your experiences of comedy in the late 90’s/2000!

The battery on my wife's iPad (non-Pro) randomly expanded and bent the chassis, which is insane. Luckily, it didn't crack the screen. I've found places that can replace the battery, but none were confident on fixing or replacing the chassis. Is there a locals dive bar with a pool table, not too crowded in the Hells kitchen area? I know there's plenty les and West village but they are filled with nj kids/nyu students, killing the vibe.

My toilet has been leaking ever so slightly since at least Saturday (7/18). I didn't realize until Tuesday night (around 10pm) that the source of excess water in my bathroom, that has since spread to parts of my living room was being caused by that ever so quiet leaky toilet.

Initially I thought all the excess ground water in my living room and bathroom was from Saturday, when myself and 2 friends got caught in the rain and may not have properly taken shoes off/dried off before fully entering my apartment (we had been drinking and gave them the benefit of the doubt they just forgot and really had to go).

When I woke up on Sunday I realized my living room carpet was pretty wet and had a trail that went from close to the door straight to the bathroom, which is why I assumed that was the cause for the excess water at first. I went to rent a heavy duty vacuum, one that most furry pet owners would probably be familiar with. Used it once Sunday, and twice Monday before returning it and seemed to be my solution.

Then on Tuesday I started noticing it getting a little wet again. By Tuesday evening I seemed to be back at square 1- that's when I realized the tiny leak coming from the toilet was the issue the whole time. Fine, I was not paying attention for a couple days and I am ultimately the one who is to blame for not being observant but ...

This Wednesday morning (7/22), I text my landlord and sent a picture of where the leak was coming from asking if he could fix it. He said he can get someone on Friday to come check it out. At the very least I should get $100-$200 off my rent next month plus the expense of the heavy duty vacuum cleaner that I'll have to rent a 2nd time right?

How should I approach this? Any help is greatly appreciated, thank you!

I moved here about six months ago and picking a gym that I love was something very important to me. I toured about 20 before I decided on ChelseaPiers Flatiron as it was close to my office and had all of the amenities that I was looking for.

I moved from Dallas and while I know Texas and New York are not the same in terms of “hospitality”, I was hoping to find a gym where I could build a community. I’m not trying to become best friends, but someone to say good morning to, ask what they’re hitting today, or have a friend to spot you.

My experience by ChelseaPiers has been far from that. I asked a few coworkers who are members that equinox and lifetime and they said they have the same experience as I do at CP. They all mentioned they also used to have gym communities before they moved to NYC and said they think it’s just a New York thing.

I have a hard time there’s no one in the whole city that wants to attend a gym with other like-minded people. Anyone have a gym they feel has a great community?

Hello someone I care for is suffering a mental health crisis I tried 988 but I'm not sure if their services are what I'm looking for they have suggested a mobile crisis unit but last time we had a unit come out the person was discharged from hspital and never got any true help. I really need an inpatient facility other than mount sanai or if anyone has any reccomendations please I finally got them to agree to do some sort of inpatient which was suggested by 988 as well but having trouble finding one or even a psychiatrist.

Background:
- Cats with chronic kidney disease: I have a cat with chronic kidney disease (although the vet hasn’t been able to tell me definitely until we do retesting).
- Costs: The costs are killing me. Bringing my cat in for an appointment with urine tests and bloodwork cost me $750+. And then it’s a hassle to actually see the results that I paid all that money for.
- Lack of cost transparency and testing plan: I can’t get a straight answer on what combinations of tests are needed for the retesting and how much they cost. I asked for an itemized list of costs for each test and they responded with “you can just do the blah blah panel. it’s the cheapest but it doesn’t include A, B, or C tests that you specifically asked for pricing on.” Perfect.
- Lack of proactive treatment plan: I feel like I have to prod for information about what we can do to help keep my cat as healthy as possible. It’s essentially just “make sure she’s eating and drinking water” which is fair, but there’s no discussion of when we’d consider fluids, phosphorous binders, or anything that feels more proactive than “wait until there’s a crisis and then react.” I’m spending hours researching this because the person trained to help me isn’t helping me come up with an actual plan.

They’re very polite, but I’m just needing a better plan, better communication, cost transparency, and hopefully cheaper costs. Not sure if that’s possible, but figured I’d ask! Any recs would be appreciated!

I'm in the process of buying a car and the quotes I am getting from insurers like Progressive and Geico seem super high so I was wondering if an insurance agent might be a better option. Part of the reason for the high quotes, I think, is that I'm an almost 40 year old with no insurance history because I've never needed it since this is my first car - the online forms only seem to ask if I had insurance in the last 6 months (except Geico which let me answer that I didn't need it) so I am wondering if that's something that might be skewing my rates unfairly. Have any of you had luck with an insurance broker?
