With the sad news story of what Amy’s son did, it made me wonder if anyone personally knew them. I just rewatched the Long Island Lolita tv movie on Tubi (Alyssa Milano was great in it and looked just like Amy). I only remember seeing it on the news while my patents watched. I was only like 7 and I watched that tv movie lol.

I feel Ike if this had happened nowadays the man would have been held way more accountable. I hate how he was looked like the victim. Amy had a traumatic past and was obviously groomed

I have consulted everyone I know, and I get a lot more nails in my tires than they do. I frequently drive back and forth from Commack and Jericho, often using the Sunken Meadow to the Northern State to the 135 and Jericho Tpke. I’ve had around 7 nails in my tires YTD, I just don’t get it. Sometimes I feel like I’m cursed. I intentionally avoid the Southern State and wherever road work is being done, but inevitably I am plagued by nails. WHERE ARE THEY COMING FROM AND HOW DO I STOP THIS?!

Next May we are traveling to NYC with our daughter (who will be 1yo) to get married. We're travelling from Scotland and we would like to spend some time as a family in Long Island (close to NYC, has amazing beaches and towns, activities for little ones). Where would be best for us to visit? Criteria would be:

- within a few hours drive of NYC

- accessible beaches/nature

- I don't know if we will rent a car so options for places that are less car dependant (not a deal breaker)

- places to eat out for a nice breakfast/brunch/dinner

- probably would want rental/Airbnb as we would like the option to make food for ourselves on occasion

Maybe I've just described every beach town in LI but any guidance would be appreciated. Budget wise maybe not Hamptons money but we would be happy to spend on the right location. Thank you!

I have a great job offer i can start next week on Monday in Hampton Bays, NY. BUT IM HOMELESS, should i take the chances being homeless in that area while im working?

After doing some research im guessing the smartest thing to do is stay in Long Island, NY and take a 2-hour train to Hampton Bays when i have to work

I plan on trying to look as stealth as possible and not cause any problems as a homeless person roaming the streets. Are there any good shelters or resources in the area or surrounding areas?

If i go out there does anybody think its possible to make it as a homeless person until my moneys starts rolling in? I have nothing to lose, cant find any good jobs anywhere, and dont know any other ways to make money besides doing gigs and work off of Craigslist so im willing to do what i gotta do to get me out of being homeless

Hey, I’m looking for a cleaning service to visit my apartment. I work 2 jobs full time and my cleaning is falling behind. They wouldn’t have to clean my bedroom or my roommate’s bedroom, just one bathroom, the living room, and the kitchen. I don’t know how many square feet it would be exactly, but my apartment is pretty small. We live near Bay Shore, have three cats. It’s not filthy, but could definitely use a good scrubbing of the floors and sweeping/vacuuming.

Any recommendations? I googled some that look nice but I like to hear reddit reviews too lol.

I'm looking for some honest inputs on the town, the schools, and what it is actually like there. Anything you think is helpful to know, say it! Budget is around 800-850.

This is something that has bothered me for a very long time. I guess I'm not really asking for advice, more like venting, but any comments are appreciated. Some time ago, starting maybe 25 years ago, to maybe 15 years ago, the Northern State parkway underwent major renovations, not just repaving, but overpass widening, road straightening, etc. I remember driving through the temporary lane displacements for quite a while, and experiencing (necessary) annoyances like storm grates in the middle of the temporary lanes.

Fast forward to the completion, and still to this day, in most places, the storm grates intrude completely into the left and right lanes, apparently, by design, but making driving uncomfortable, sometimes even dangerous. Plus, in most (all?) cases, there's no reason why the grates couldn't have just been located in the shoulders, completely out of the way of traffic. Am I the only one who is seriously annoyed, no, angered at this? I can't help but think there are a number of people all the way up the chain who should have been taken to task for this, even fired. Any thoughts anyone?

- this is more of a general question about the test but before u leave the curb, do they quiz you on the controls/signals of the car, like the horn and hazard lights etc etc, and also the hand signals? just wanna to be prepared to memorize them lol

- how is the area? i’ve looked on maps and the roads look pretty wide and calm, anything i should be aware of?

I live in North Shore Suffolk County within the township of Brookhaven. My neighbor has a sizable tree on their lot that borders mine that is rotting and I'm worried about when it falls it might cause a lot of property damage or potential personal injury. From what I found out living in my neighborhood, the owner of the lot with the tree does not even live there and there are renters occupying the home. I want to know what I should do to try and get the owner to remove it and how to cover my ass if it does come crush my house. Should I call my home insurance first, get a certified letter, get a professional assessment of the tree? I can't really afford to go half with them either since I moved in pretty recently. Anyone have a similar situation or insight?
