Best guess is this sinkhole is only going to get worse until it caves or the county does something about it

Hi looking for the best activities near by for family. Not the American dream mall please. Is there any surrounding towns that has a good downtown area with coffee shops, bookstores, candy shops, family friendly, etc. Or any other fun activities.

Breaking news, the Newark Central Planning Board just anonymously approved 48 Branford Place. After months of adjournments the developer finally secured final site plan approvals. Now the next steps are the finalize construction drawings, require demolition permits, fundings, possible tax abatements or Aspire grants, building permits and finally a ground breaking. 48 Branford marks the last project on this page needing approvals, with the last development now being approved what other crazy proposals lies ahead for downtown Newark!!!

Hey I wanted to know if anyone has pictures of how the income based apartments look at Parq930?! I am currently in the process of getting approved and I am dying to know how the interior looks! :)

Hello, I am looking to move to Newark as I recently landed a job in NYC. I have a shortlist of 5 apartments I found on apartments.com. I was wondering if anyone had any experience or just general thoughts they would like to share with any of the listed apartments. All are near Penn station which I would be using for commute everyday.

Apartment list:
1. 55 union
2. Iron 65
3. Teachers Village
4. Clinton Flats
5. The Mercer

Also any additional information regarding safety of these areas, access to groceries and restaurants/food and nearby gyms would be very much appreciated. I see they have ironbound fitness and evolution fitness on the ironbound side. They also have an LA fitness but that’s pretty far out west.

People of Newarks. I am looking to see if a kind stranger can do me a favor and obtain some mini prints from a location in your area at, Shopkeeper in Maplewood, NJ. They are in a vending machine that requires a dollar in quarters and you then get a mystery print. I will pay the print plus extra plus shipping.

Hoping this works. I live so far from the print vending machine.

Hard to tell if this was a result of the peoole who handle the park looking for something, or if this was caused by the flooding we had during the tornado watch, as this wasn't in its current state post-thunderstorm. The fallen tree higher up by barringer that was knocked down during the thunderstorm is still down after a county sheriff stopped by and put up caution tape a few days ago, although the tree has started to begin decomposing.

Write About Now, a national poetry event is coming to Newark next month on August 14th! It'll be hosted at the Hilton DoubleTree by Penn Station (1048 Raymond Blvd) and doors open at 7:30PM.

The signup sheet goes up at 7:30PM and the show starts at 8:00PM. I highly recommend taking public transportation since parking is hard to find or expensive in the area. There will be a full bar, a DJ, and food. Tickets are up on Eventbrite and currently $35.34. Any poetry fans or poets attending?

Multiple ICE agents in unmarked cars at Riverpank Park around 10:30 this morning. I took video of their faces and as best I could but it's not allowing me to upload. It didn't look like they came back with anyone in tow though but they got real offended seeing my phone out 😂

Incident occurred at Delany Hall in Newark, New Jersey.

First time ever at this train station. I would say it’s in better shape than Penn station and surprisingly no homeless people around.

Tried Cova Coffee at Halley today…had their Brazilian cold‑brew iced coffee and Ethiopian drip, both excellent. It’s such a warm, cozy corner spot. They also offer Turkish pistachio and rose‑petal cookies, but they were sold out. I’d definitely go back to try their Turkish delights.

"Mulberry Commons Park, the downtown Newark park across from the Prudential Center, was designed with a $750,000 interactive fountain intended to serve as a splash pad, visual entertainment, play area and a place to cool off...Yet, for much of the past two summers, the water feature has remained largely out of service because of mechanical failures, leaving residents wondering why one of Newark's most visible cooling features has been unavailable during increasingly frequent heat waves.

Architectural websites, as well as the Newark City Parks Foundation website, tout Mulberry Commons Park for its large interactive fountain and splash pad.  Supermass Studios, the landscape architect, and Sage and Coombe, head architect on Mulberry Commons Park, declined to comment on the inoperable water feature and deferred questions to the Newark Department of Economic and Housing Development."

Beginning in 2022, the system experienced mechanical issues that affected its operation. Susan Garofalo, a spokesperson for the Newark mayor’s office, elaborated that the interactive fountain’s electronics were severely damaged and required replacement. 

Water may have seeped into that area and damaged the circuit boards, wires and some other electronics,” Garofalo said. The water feature is currently undergoing a phased repair and restoration, which was initiated by the city a few months ago.  The first phase of repairs were completed this month, allowing the fountain to operate on select occasions, DePina said. But the system sustained additional damage, including flood-related impacts to the control system and underground infrastructure, requiring more extensive repairs. Restoring the interactive fountain system has required specialized parts and technicians from the manufacturer, Delta Fountains, which is based in Florida. 

“The complexity of those repairs, combined with the need to source replacement equipment and coordinate service visits, has extended the repair timeline,” DePina said.  Erin Morgan, vice president of operations at Delta Fountains, confirmed that the company was a consultant to the design team for Mulberry Commons’ interactive fountain. Delta Fountains also supplied the equipment and was involved in the recent renovations. Delta Fountains did not answer questions about the fountain’s mechanical issues and subsequent repairs.

"As Allison Ladd, director of economic and housing development, reported at a May City Council meeting, the rail agencies NJ Transit, Amtrak and PATH were unwilling to approve the design of the pedestrian bridge, “so we started over” and the city entered a contract with a different architectural firm for a new bridge design."
