I have run into a string of MTA employees and passengers being absolute pricks about my kid’ stroller on the bus over the last couple of weeks. He has as much right to be on the bus as any of you. The stroller does not take up any more room in the aisle than a person standing in the aisle does. Folding up the types of strollers that the vast majority of people actually use will make them more difficult to get out of the way, not less. All of these people had attitudes on half full buses where there were plenty of open seats. they need to get rid of this half asses requirement entirely. Hi all! I've got a 15mo and just received a pretty great job offer in finance that will take us back to NYC. My husband and I used to live there for 10+ yrs so we have a sense of the lifestyle -- but at the time we lived in a 1bdr and didn't have a kid.

I love NYC but I am a little scared about the transition back with a child. I'd love some help with general question.

• How do you get around with older toddlers that no longer fit in the infant car seat? Do you always take transit? Take a car seat for uber rides? Or just hang out in the neighborhood?
• Which neighborhoods should we look at? We want something kid friendly (lots of parks and activities walking distance) and I'd like a sub-60min commute to Hudson Yards.
• Would you recommend picking a daycare then finding an apartment in the area or vice versa? We have 2 months of corporate housing and I know apt searches move quickly -- but I am not sure what daycare waitlists are like.
• What do you all do in the winter? Chicago apartments are larger so we manage to stay in + there is a lot of infrastructure to make the winter bearable. I am wondering how we'll survive with a toddler when it's cold.

Hey anyone had very few or no diaper blowouts? If so, what diaper brands are you using? I heard rascals, coterie, kirkland brand, and pampers amore but wanted to get some suggestions.

I need some supermarket hacks to save money. A certain supermarket that is fairly inexpensive? I have a car so willing to travel.

This is my first summer that my kid isn't in camp/daycare and a weeks worth of groceries are gone in 4 days. I have a picky eater, so that doesn't help things. She loves something this week and as soon as I buy it in bulk she doesn't like it anymore ::sigh::

It is going to be a high of mid-80s tomorrow and we are gonna be outside for hours. So far, I have only worn my baby, except for the stroller ride home from the hospital. He is 1 month old. We have been outside for stretches, but he’s never needed to stay tied on to me for more than an hour

I also have a 7 year old. I never used a stroller with my first until he was a year old; and then i used it occasionally until he could walk around at 2.5 years. BUT he was a winter baby and I felt like he could better regulate his body temp by summer. I also never felt obligated to be on long outings since he was the first and I had no one to disappoint with a boring summer!

I feel generally safer with my babies tied to my body in case there is an emergency. But I also think it might be safer for a long day in the heat to be separated so he doesn’t overheat.

I’m still trying to decide if I need one. I have friends who used doulas and had a great experience, but have others who had terrible experience and said it was a waste of money. I did some interviews and I’m still trying to figure out if it’s something I need.

Last night, after bath time and storytime, my son and I were cuddling in bed, just chatting in the dark.
Out of nowhere, he turned to me and whispered, "Mom, I feel so happy today."
I asked, "Oh yeah? Did something special happen today?"
He thought for a second and said with absolute sincerity, "Because I played with Play-Doh today, and Dad helped me with my bath while I played with bubbles in the tub!"
That caught me off guard. Playing with his play-dough, splashing in a bubble bath… these are literally things he does every single day.
Curious, I asked him, "What else makes you happy?"
In his soft, sweet voice, he replied, "Reading books makes me happy. Listening to solar system songs makes me happy too!"
Lying there in the quiet room, looking at this little soul beside me, I felt a deep, warm sensation wash over me.
We grown-ups often say, "It’s so easy for kids to be happy."
But is it really that their joy is simple? Or is it that our threshold for joy has become painfully high as we grow up?
When we were little, catching a bug or splashing in a puddle could light up our entire day. But somewhere along the way, our minds became cluttered with "what’s next." We take everyday peace and warmth for granted, slowly losing the ability to simply savor the present moment.
What makes children so amazing is that they live completely in the now. The unique shape of today’s Play-Doh, floating bubble foam in the bath, a familiar melody—to them, every single experience is brand new and magical.
We always think we are the ones guiding our children through life. But so often, it’s our children who gently remind us how to truly live.
Happiness was never meant to be grand. To find deep content in the smallest details of our daily life ,that is a true superpower.

TLDR: Wondering if anyone has experience with an incomplete 3-hr test, and what happened next?

I’m extremely needle-phobic (and told the tech such). I made it through the first 2 blood draws successfully, but the tech couldn’t find a vein for the third draw, and had to poke around 2 times before finding a vein on the 3rd attempt. After the draw, I got light headed and threw up - glucose drink is out of my system, and I can’t continue the test. I messaged my OB to ask next steps, but wondering if there are alternatives I can ask for/about.

I’m frustrated because I feel like the tech was prideful about being able to find a vein, when they should have just called in someone else to try (which is what usually happens). In some labs, they don’t even let a tech attempt more than once before calling in a supervisor.

Can I take the test again? Is there a chance they’ll use the first 3 draws as conclusive enough? Or will I have to be treated as GD?

We're looking for another family to join our nanny share with our 2-year-old daughter and our amazing nanny, Brenda. Our current nanny share family will be transitioning to preschool at the beginning of September, so we're looking for a new family to start around then (though we're flexible on timing!).

Brenda is truly one of a kind. She has been with our current nanny share family for 3.5 years and with our family for 1.5 years, and we honestly couldn't recommend her more highly. She is warm, kind, reliable, incredibly loving, and so much fun with the kids. She speaks Spanish with them throughout the day, sings songs, plays games, and has endless energy. I work night shift, typically 3-4 nights a week. I leave 6:30pm and get home around 7:30, 8am, and then sleep until around 2:30.

Does anyone have recent experiences that they can share? Does everyone get a private room? Or we share a room? What’s the deal?

My friend is visiting with her two daughters, ages 4 and 7. This family is extremely international and cultured. Their mother is Chinese, their father is Belgian and as a family they have had stays all over the world already. So the kids are familiar with all kinds of cuisines and not very picky, but they are still little kids so I’d like to take them somewhere that would be interesting to them (fun space or a fun way to eat). Nowhere too fancy, the little one tends to spill an entire glass of whatever she’s drinking any time we’ve gone out. Bonus points if it’s not in Manhattan.

Our daughter had a mild reaction to peanuts, and after allergy testing, she came back positive for cashew and pistachio as well. Her allergist at Weill Cornell gave us two paths: wait and see (with strict avoidance in the meantime), or pursue OIT. Since they don't offer OIT in-house, we were referred to three centers: Latitude Food Allergy Care, Mt. Sinai, and NYU. We were warned that wait times at Mt. Sinai and NYU can be significant.

She's under a year old, so we're wondering whether starting OIT early actually leads to better outcomes, or if the research on that is still unclear. Would love to hear from anyone who has been through this, especially: 1.Did you go with Latitude, Mt. Sinai, or NYU, and how was your experience? 2.Did you start OIT before age one, and do you feel early intervention made a difference? 3.Has your child fully outgrown the allergy or developed lasting tolerance — with or without OIT?

She's been with our family for 4 years since our daughter was 1yo. She's been an absolute gift for us! She was able to alleviate my early anxiety about trusting my child with another person. Safety, hygiene, and gentle caring have been the main principles she adheres to when caring for our daughter. 
She is 100% responsible and reliable, honest, and a good person. I'm happy she's been a part of my daughter's early years.
She listens, observes my interactions with my kid and fits in perfectly with the family dynamic. Her is confident yet subtle, very respectful and loving. 

She's had 28 years of childcare experience and has her own grown children. She loves caring for younger children and has a lot of experience with multiples. She enjoys her job and it shows. My daughter and her friends love our nanny and other babysitters and parents often tell me how great our nanny is.

We won't need a full-time childcare coverage anymore now. I want to find a great new family for our nanny. She would like to work full time M-Fr and her schedule is flexible for late nights and weekends. She would prefer to work in Manhattan or Brooklyn.

Hey all, we're prepping for our first baby later this year and feeling a bit overwhelmed/ stuck on making a decision re: bassinet vs. mini crib.

Some friends have shared that they loved having a bassinet in the first few months, something with wheels and roll down sides so they could move it around during the day and the roll down made it easier to do nighttime feedings. But we also see a lot of people saying that it might be better to just go with a mini crib from the get-go. Help us decide!!

A few options we are looking at:

• Harppa Cuddly Sway - this is probably the best bassinet option for us right now. If we could find something slightly smaller in width, but that also includes wheels, roll down top, and storage, we'd love to know!
• Babyletto Yuzu Crib - if we go the crib route, we saw a lot of recs for this one and are leaning towards this!

PS: Lots of people suggest getting a pack and play for early days and NYC apartments but they look really low to the ground/ not super comfy for get the baby in and out multiple times especially in early days so we are not considering that for now.
