Announcement Important dates and resources for CUNY students

Hey everyone, as the fall semester is right around the corner I figured that I should post these links for new and current students.

The academic calendar has been posted for Fall through Spring 25-26. CUNY follows the same academic calendar meaning your days off should all be the same. You will have random days where Tuesdays follow a Monday schedule, Fridays will follow a Monday schedule, etc. Try your best to plan ahead.

https://www.cuny.edu/academics/academic-calendars/

CUNY also has resource centers to help you succeed. CUNY offers food pantries, housing assistance, emergency funds, mental health resources and other resources. Please use these resources if you need them. CUNY can help but you as students need to be proactive in seeking these resources.

https://www.cuny.edu/about/administration/offices/student-affairs/programs-services/cuny-resource-centers/

If you require accommodations, ask for them via your school's Office of Student Disability Services. Reasonable accommodations and academic adjustments may include, but are not limited to, providing the student with assistive technology or other auxiliary aides, extra time for tests or papers, access to an elevator where available, a note taker during lectures, or permission to bring a personal aide to assist the student during class.

BMCC Got all the classes I needed in a sweet schedule!

Ever since I knew I was going back to school for nursing, I've wanted to pick my classes before they filled up. I knew how competitive the major is and wanted to give myself a good start.

I enrolled super later so I knew all the core science classes would be gone, but I could take all the other easier required courses and do science in the spring.

As soon as academic advisement was done, I jumped on Schedule Builder and picked my classes.

I had already did the research on days and times and knew exactly which class I wanted for my ideal schedule.

Boom, schedule done!

Then a few minutes later I got to thinking, "What about the professors? I never looked them up!" 😬

So I frantically pulled up my schedule and go to ratemyprofessor to find reviews. 1 out of the 4 professors were good, but my math, english, and speech professors were rated HORRIBLY online. Pretty scary stuff. English teacher failing people not off essay but the topic, grading by emotion. Math teacher hard to understand and very rigid (thats my worst subject!) Speech teacher who's always preaching about his PhD and never gives feedback.

A true nightmare. 😭

I quickly went back to the class search and looked for other professors at the same time or similar.

I lucked out and took the last seat in English with a 5 star professor 🥹 its for 3 hours on a Friday when I had a free day, but worth it. Its online, she gives breaks, and grades nicely. English is my favorite subject so I'm glad I caught that.

Lucked out again and found a math professor with excellent reviews. Takes times to explain and let's you turn in late work. Every exam is open book! I mean, thank God 🥲 I truly despise math.

Speech was tricky. All the professors sucked, but I found one that was average. Its an async online class so I hope the professor is reasonable. I need a high GPA to compete.

All in all, very excited for this semester. Advice for any other new students this year: check these professor receipts! And if you have a bad experience, leave a review or report it! Warn the rest of us because a good professor can make a huge difference between a winning semester and a losing one.

Can I get a refund for a WD at LaGuardia Community College?

• Upvotes

I withdrew from a course just after the refund deadline. I didn’t know I will get charged half of the tuition fee. Is it possible to request a tuition fee refund ? Has anyone at LaGuardia had a similar experience?

CSI ISO Housing Help for CSI New Student

Hello community! I am writing on behalf of a friend of mine, a student who is starting at CUNY at CSI in September. He is originally from West Africa and currently lives in a room with other folks in Staten Island. He also works nearby CSI! He is trying to find housing on/or preferably off campus that is affordable, as he wants to find an apartment that he can focus in. The issue is, I know campus housing is SO expensive and SO hard to find. Really reaching out here to see if anyone has any ideas, resources, thoughts, or recommendations on what to do or where to look for this?

Thanks a lot for any thoughts or comments <3

Summer TAP

I noticed that the Pell Grant was disbursed for Summer, but my TAP doesn’t even seems to appear on CUNYFIRST, even though it appears on the TAP HESC website for the summer session.
Does anyone know anything about TAP for summer?

Question SAP SUSPENSION QUESTION

This is if you get the ineligibility sap suspension email. If you pay out of pocket for the fall semester and meet the sap criteria at the end, will you get your fafsa money for the spring or do you have to appeal in the spring?

Question MTA x CUNY Fall

Hey everyone, for those who applied to the MTA x CUNY program for the fall semester, I was wondering if you could share when your interviews were scheduled (date and approximate time).

I’m trying to figure out when the interview process started and whether interviews are happening in batches. I had my first interview this morning and wanted to know if I’m part of an earlier group, a later batch, or somewhere in the middle of the process.

If anyone has already interviewed, it would be helpful to know:

  • When your interview was (date/time)
  • When you received your interview invite
  • How the process went after the interview (timeline for decisions, next steps, etc.)
  • Any information about how competitive the fall program is compared to the summer program

Any insight would be appreciated. Thanks!

Anyone have experience living at the graduate housing at 165 E. 118th Street? Currently there's a waitlist, but what's it like to live there, especially as an older student?

Thanks in advance.

Question 38F Career Changer in NYC - Radiology Advice Needed

Hi everyone!
I’m 38 and considering going back to school for radiologic technology in NYC. I have a bachelor’s degree in accounting (2008) and currently work as an inpatient pharmacy tech.

I’m planning to start a family within the next year, so I’m trying to make the smartest decision. I also have anxiety, which is mainly triggered by lack of sleep, toxic work environments, and constantly being the new person.

My questions are:
Which area of radiology is the least stressful?
Which NYC radiology program did you attend, and would you recommend it?
Since I already have a bachelor’s degree, did any of your credits transfer?
What CUNY radiology program is the easiest to get into?
What CUNY radiology program has at least online or evening courses?

Question CUNY Financial Aid Help?

I checked my financial aid for fall semester and its the first where grants and TAP doesn't cover my tuition in full. Has anyone been able to go to financial aid and make a case for more money? I work full time on top of school which is where my income probably looks "high", but I don't make enough to have the extra money to pay my bill and i don't want to take out any loans.

Has anyone gone to financial aid with a similar problem and gotten help? Any tips before I go to my school's office?

CUNY Grad Should I skip Orientation Day? (Grad Center)

I had a vacation planned out for the day of the orientation and won't be able to attend unless I change the flight. It was my bad for not buying a refundable ticket, but that's life. I would appreciate y'all's feedback.

Hi everyone! I’m currently majoring in Computer Science at Queensborough Community College and will be graduating next spring . I’m looking for the best college to transfer to for my bachelor’s in Computer Science.

I’m looking for the best option in terms of the quality of the Computer Science program, career opportunities, internships, clubs and overall value. I’d really appreciate any recommendations or advice. Thank you!

Hunter Hunter Pre-College Wait List

I got enrolled into epidemiology at Hunter College through the College Now program and was placed at spot #4, as I did apply quite late within the year. I have seen other posts about people getting waitlisted and the range is 1-4 and this might seem a bit silly, but do the waitlist numbers correspond to a group of waitlisted people that I am with, or am I literally number 4 in line?
