Stearns is about run prevention and puts Baty in RF. Immediately causes 2 runs for no reason.
I hate this team. I hate whoever is putting line ups together

I’m not usually a WSJ reader, but this article hit the nail on the head. There is just not excuse for this - and the heat needs to be on Stearns big time. If the regression in the minors continues, he’ll go down as the worst executive for the team since at least the 1990s.

We had amazing OF def last night and today we stick Batt out there. We have SO many of’s now that Taylor and Roberts Jr are healthy - why tf is Baty out there??

Who else adores this guy? He's so cool I even have a Brazoban game-worn jersey that I wear to games. The only good thing Stearns ever did (Torrens too). With my luck, they both get traded.

Brilliant catches today, love to see the hustle. As much as I love Soto, he wouldn’t have made those catches. Not to mention Luis Robert with the absolute missile nearly out of the stadium

Also reported White Sox were in attendance during BP session. Other pundits have suggested a comp deal from last year Shane Bieber netted a fringe top 100 prospect. Difference being Holmes injury was not his arm.

So Baty playing out of position fucked up that routine fly ball sooo badly, that its marked as a hit and 2 runs earned for Scott?!?!?

Since when did he become a right fielder? I can think of a couple better options in right field.

I’m a 17-year-old Mets fan, and Peralta’s decline has been worrying me.
I kept hearing explanations like velocity loss or bad location, but neither fully matched the data. His four-seam actually went from 93.7 mph to 94.5 mph, and he did not suddenly start throwing more pitches down the middle.
The bigger changes were:
• Four-seam chase rate: 27.4% → 20.0%
• Four-seam whiff rate: 21.5% → 17.1%
• Four-seam hard-hit rate: 19.1% → 30.6%
• Four-seam RV/100: +1.90 → -1.55
• His changeup also became less effective
• First-pitch and two-strike fastballs got much worse
His ERA went from 2.64 during his strong opening stretch to 6.56 during the decline, so the drop-off is real.
The hopeful part is that his velocity and general pitch shape are still intact, his walk rate has not gotten worse, and his overall xwOBA barely changed. That makes me think this could be an execution, deception, and sequencing problem rather than his stuff completely disappearing.
I wrote a full breakdown with the pitch data and location charts here:
https://baseballsignal.vercel.app/players/freddy-peralta/pitch-alert/2026-fastball-decline?
Would be interested to hear what other Mets fans have noticed from watching his starts.

Why take him out after only 81 pitches? Let him start the 7th and take him out if gets in trouble. I hate that baseball has conditioned not only the players but the fans to accept 6 innings as the norm. If you never let them try to go deep in the game, you'll never know if they can do it. It's like what Crush said to Marlon on Finding Nemo, "when they know, you'll know dude."
They should be spending the rest of the season conditioning these guys to be more efficient with their pitch counts since the bullpen will be decimated in two weeks after the trade deadline. McLean and Scott haven't taken the next step to me because their pitch counts get way too high chasing strikeouts early in the game.
It's also quite obvious they have no interest in winning the days Manaea and Senga piggyback because they're just trying to fill innings so that's not good for morale. That can be mitigated by teaching that starters to be more efficient and saving the bullpen arms for those days because they'll have plenty of traffic on base to practice on those days.
In a lost season, I want to see internal growth within the starters like how Wheeler did in 2018. He was incredible in the second half of that season.

The least amount of pitches seen was his 4 pitch walk. Thats a leadoff hitter.

Not really clear in the info!

unlikely because we are starting to like him

He has earned it. Besides, the other options suck. Give him half a season to see if he should return next year.

Hi people, I'm an international student that's looking to catch the Mets at Citi field in the next few days and I'm kinda torn between going to the Dodgers game, which has more expensive ticket prices but the chance to see Ohtani play, versus going to the Braves game, which is about 3x cheaper, for a first game. sorry if this is not allowed to post.
I just learned the rules of baseball, I'm a lifelong cricket fan, and I've been meaning to start following the great game here and root for the Mets. Please advice!
Thanks in advance.

Thornton, McLean, Scott are all coming along really well. Add in Benge and Ewing and we have some fun young talent to watch.

How much is/are the autographs of the entire 1998 New York Mets
on a baseball with Piazza (first year) Valentine, Olerud, Baerga, Franco etc., etc.
and a JSA certificate of authenticity?
The most die hard and miserable Mets fans,
of which I have a great deal of respect for right now
because you're still buying tickets to go to the games,
how valuable of an artifact is that baseball to you right now
if it were in your possession and you were selling it?

Three really good young pitchers to build around and 4 if Tong ever figures it out. Something to be excited about next year…. Now if we didn’t trade Sproat it would be even better.
