Review [Megathread] Final Fantasy X | X-2 HD Remaster – Nintendo Switch 2 Review Roundup

Upvotes
Japanese game box

This is a list of selected reviews of the newly published Final Fantasy X | X-2 HD Remaster game for Nintendo Switch 2.

Reviews

  • CogConnected - "85/100 : But the Switch 2 version will be the new standard, thanks to those fixes. [...] This version of the Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster is the best one yet."
  • ShackNews - "On paper though, if you have a Switch 2 and want to replay Final Fantasy X, this is certainly a better version than what was available before. Just… not by a large margin."
  • Final Weapon (YouTube) - "Definitely pick this legendary game up on Switch 2 if you've never experienced it before."
  • The Outer Haven - "4.5/5 : Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster is the definitive console experience for Final Fantasy X and Final Fantasy X-2."
  • NoisyPixel / YouTube : "8.5/10 : If you haven’t played X or X-2, this collection is an obvious must-play. Yet, for those who already have, there’s nothing here to encourage a repurchase, especially given the lack of upgrade options or data transfer."
  • MonsterVine - "4.5/5 : Given the fantastic additional QoL features provided by the Nintendo Switch version, I feel it’s pretty unfair to existing fans that they’re shut out of experiencing the best version of this remaster."
  • Nintendo World Report (YouTube) - "75/100 : If you're new to Final Fantasy or RPGs, [...] this is a good place to start, but you can likely find a package on sale elsewhere and wouldn't be missing out on any vital Switch 2 boost."

Video I Played Every Final Fantasy Game And It Ruined My Life

Hey Fellow Final Fantasy Fans! A while ago I played every mainline game in the series (except 11 and 14) and decided to rank them all! My videos are a mix between comedy and edutainment, and after a year this has been my most successful video! I'd be keen to hear feedback and discussion around the opinions I presented here! Cheers!

(I'll come around to 11 and 14 later, I just wanted to give them more time given how massive they both are compared to the other games. I apologise for not including them here, I was worried if I committed to them the video would never get finished.)

Question Does Square Enix strike or copyright claim YouTube channels that create art and animation content using their characters if the channel is monetized?

I run an art channel where I make fan-made animations and illustrations sometimes featuring Square Enix characters.

everything is 100% created by me, from scratch. The only thing that belongs to them is the characters. I was wondering if that would put me at any legal risk or if it's generally considered okay as long as I'm not using their official assets.

Sorry if this is a dumb question, I'm confused reading through their policies and wasn't sure where to even ask this. 👉🏻👈🏻

For me I'm crushed that there is essentially no chance we will ever see TWEWY 3. Neo was awesome and SE really dropped the ball on the marketing for it :(

Question Lufia 2 - Rise of the Sinistrals HD-2D-Remake

Final Fantasy: Blackmoon Prophecy Remake is a particularly ambitious fan game project that reimagines the classic amateur RPG originally released in the early 2010s.

The story immerses players once again in a rich universe that pays a vibrant tribute to the golden age of 2D Final Fantasy games (specifically installments IV, V, and VI), while introducing its own lore, unique characters, and thrilling quests.

Description by the game's creators :

Blackmoon Prophecy Remake's expected total playtime is around 50 hours. If you wish to see everything that the game has to offer, I believe that this will exceed 60 hours!

Recruit a robust cast of 22 playable characters, many who are optional! All characters have their own unique classes/jobs, with no two characters playing the same. Many Final Fantasy jobs are represented in the game such as black mage, chemist, dark knight, dragoon, mechanist, oracle, summoner, thief, white mage, and many more. Additionally, you will also befriend 6 guest characters who will aid you across your travels!

Want a break from saving the world? Journey to the Gygas Arena to partake in a 100 battle ladder which offers powerful rewards along the way. If you don't want to fight, you may also partake in Hide & Kupo Seek, a tense and fast paced hide and seek game featuring moogles. For those who favour chance, there is the House of Revelry in Lindblum where you can gamble away your hard-earned gil in several games of chance/luck

Question What’s your favorite Kingdom Hearts Game ?

What’s your favorite game in the series ?

Me Personally I’ll always say KH2 Final Mix is literally the best game in the franchise. Playing the original game in 2005 , then final mix years later . It just really good game . Xemnas was actually a great villain & the story arc of Riku 🥺 . It’s just sooo good .

Discussion Why Square Enix NEEDS to give FFVII Ever Crisis the FF Resonance treatment

I think, first of all, that it's wonderful to see a game that otherwise would have died an unfortunate death (Brave Exvius), lost in the sands of internet time forever once it went offline....gets a second life as Final Fantasy Resonance. And this happening concurrently with the announcement of End of Service for FFVII Ever Crisis - another gacha game that will ALSO be lost to time - brings up a critical point about preservation of lore and how Square Enix can still make this whole thing worthwhile and recover the assets it sank into the project:

First, it's important to note that Ever Crisis is now the ONLY official way of experiencing the lost BEFORE CRISIS storyline. That game had ALREADY died one sad death once it went offline, was rescued via EVER CRISIS, only to have the same exact thing happen AGAIN. Come Oct. 6th, it will again be lost forever as a playable title (even though it's only cutscenes, it's better than nothing). Yes, videos will be on youtube, but that's not the point.

Second, the two FIRST SOLDIER stories covering Sephiroth's origins, early life, coming upon the masamune and the start of his descent - and the glorious CGI cutscenes peppered into it - will ALSO be forever lost the moment Ever Crisis goes down.

Third, there are the character stories that ALSO fill in additional gaps in the lore officially.

_________________________

SO, it is my thought that Square Enix would do well by the fans to salvage this in some way. What that way IS exactly, I don't know. Perhaps DLC content for the remakes. Perhaps a stand-alone offline game that strips away the GACHA mechanics and handles weapon / item acquisition a different way. The CGI cutscenes from First Soldier could also be re-used, so those wouldn't go to waste regardless.

I also don't think it'd be that onerous a task - or expensive, at least, compared to larger projects like the remakes.

At a time when Sony's abandonment of physical media is raising a lot of concerns about the potential loss of some titles to time, I do think Square Enix would do well to act to PRESERVE the lore they've put out there rather than let it slip away yet again.

And again, RESONANCE is a great start to that. This is wonderful to see. I HOPE something similar can be considered for Ever Crisis.

___________

Unrelated topic, but it'd also be pretty neat if the long dormancy of Parasite Eve could come to a close or at LEAST they could put Parasite Eve I and II on the PS5 store. With PS3's store being the only way to legally obtain the game (other than tracking down a physical disc and having a system that can play it) and THAT going down by next July, that and Vagrant Story will just...poof. The fact that they ARE still for sale on the PS3 store underscores that it IS actually not legally prohibited as per a certain internet myth.

Anyway, I'm aware my take may not be popular with everyone, some may say good riddance to gacha games - but for the preservation of lore, I think it's worth SOMETHING being done.

Square, I hope you read this one day.
