OT2 - Chapter 1 Just started Octo 2 after finishing 1... Wasn't prepared

I really enjoyed the first one, but found most of the stories light hearted and quite a few endings lack luster, I realised there was almost no post game so thought I'd just jump onto 2.

JFC just what I needed, what an upgrade, but this was dark! Sacrifice, abuse and deaths straight off the bat, what a contrast to OT1.

Other Just finished OT2, and in between that and my next run, here’s what I would have the travelers’ stories be if I made an Octopath or similar game

  1. Warrior: A pirate following the map left behind by their captain

  2. Dancer: Subversive artist gathering an army against a tyrant through stageplays

  3. Scholar: A scholar seeking glory in their thesis on the origin of magic

  4. Merchant: Heir to a failed business escaping their parent’s debtors

  5. Hunter: A hunter seeking vengeance on their former poaching gang for betraying them

  6. Apothecary: A small village doctor learning about a mythical herb said to be the key ingredient to the legendary Panacea

  7. Thief: lighthearted Phantom/Gentleman Thief on “one last gig” before fading from the spotlight

  8. Cleric: An inquisitor sent undercover to investigate allegations of cult-like schism

Just starting bestower of fame 2, managed to breeze through most of the game due to encountering a bunch of caits and getting over leveled. I’m pretty happy with my current setup but I’m open to advice on some improvements I could make

I finally finished OCTOPATH 0!

I was finally able to finish OCTOPATH Traveler 0 on the Switch 2. Probably my favorite of the series. I enjoyed the 8 traveler party. I felt it gave me many options with the combat along with it being so customizable. I enjoyed the story. Felt it was like this epic story that built up and really actually cared about all 35 companions (I also raised max kinship on all the characters). It took me a bit to finish. I really didn’t focus on buffs and debuffs, just getting them from the characters or from certain moves. I used my favorites and mostly had damage dealers and healers. Was able to beat the true ending after optimizing all the other characters equipment. Had a great time. Now I’m probably going to replay 2 and see if I can beat Vide this time from what I’ve learned.

OT2 - Discussion Confused about Pirro's

Upvotes

Maybe it will be explained later on but I'm confused by something:

Why didn't Pirro team up with Throne?

He said he wanted to change the Blacksnakes, but then he thinks the best way to do that is to follow the mentality of Mother & Father by killing Throne? Someone who he trusts and is also very skilled?

Wouldn't it make more sense to team up with Throne and overthrow Mother & Father?

Not only would he then be rejecting the mentality that he supposedly opposes and wants to change, but also he'd stand a much better chance of success with the help of Throne?

Discussion Revisit 1 or go straight to 2?

I last played octopath traveler 1 on switch in 2019 according to my save file, 38 hours and level 41 apparently. I feel like i remember being about halfway thru most/all of the characters stories but maybe a little past that. I remember almost nothing about the story at present. I do remember enjoying the game, especially the art style, but at one point felt like I needed to grind levels a bit (whether or not it was really necessary) which kinda tanked my enjoyment and i ended up dropping it.

Considering picking up 2 on steam; also considering revisiting 1 on switch (starting from scratch) before booting up 2 for the sake of ordering it correctly. What i gather is 2 improves on 1 in a lot of ways including alleviating some issues related to grinding, and also has a mostly entirely separate story; but going back to 1 after might feel like a downgrade. I'm generally not really a huge JRPG player (honestly a lot of times they just feel too long for me to not get distracted by another game) so I'm a bit concerned i might burn out on 1 by the time i'm ready for 2, especially considering i have already played it before albeit 7+ years ago.

Should i just jump straight into 2 for a sale price and only revisit 1 if i'm really enjoying it?

Discussion Why is H’aanit good in OT0?

I have heard players of Octopath Traveler 0 saying that H’aanit is one of the best units in the game. Is this true? In Octopath Traveler #1, I thought that H’aanit was the worst character by a long shot late game.

.

I noticed that in the octobath art Primrose seems to have shorter hair… so I like to think she cut them after her journey ended - now she’s happier

Discussion Just started Octopath 1, and the difficulty is instantly hard.

I started with Primrose, went to the cave, and instantly got killed by a lizard. Then I grinded to lvl 4, had the boss fight with the Tavern boss, and it was just a 1v3. I know I could have recruited an Npc beforehand, but didn't feel like I needed too. Now im about to recruit all the side characters, and wondering how much the difficulty will increase. Im not a stranger to rpgs at all, but this caught me off guard. Maybe I became too relaxed with these newer games having options to double xp and damage.

Discussion Lvl 45 bosses r so hard!!

I couldnt kill Throne’s boss so I decided to try the hunter girl (forgot her name) and the dog boss is so tough. They do AOE dmg, hits multiple times back to back, each attack does close to 2-3k dmg which is my max hp. Am I supposed to grind to maybe level50 and try again? I am currently lvl 46.

Discussion Woman, Timberain. Smashing Strike

Unleash a powerful staff attack on all foes, and lower their physical defense for 3 turns.

There is this skill in the google docs thing. Is this an error? Normal smashing strike is just a 1hit staff(all) without defense down. But there is this other version on the docs too. I can't find this woman in Timberain.

Discussion Need file 100% for octopath traveler 0

I just overwrote my existing 100% save file with a fresh one cuz I was trying some mods and didn't want to harm my file in any way. I had beaten true ending and the secret superboss, had max influence, all chars lv. 99 with all skills and etra slots. Could someone pls send their 100% file (it's fine if it's not full 100%) with a working link, cuz i searched all over reddit and discord and didn't find any working like. thanks

OT2 - Shitpost Gimme extra content

Post image

Got everybody to 99 and just have two extra battles from post game left. Reaching the end and I’m not ready for it to be over. Wish there was some extra content in the circled areas on the map. Looks like there could have been with as much space as there is, at least west of Hinoeuma.
So anyway, just here waiting for FF Resonance and eventually OT3 🥲

OT2 - Chapter 4+ Defeating OT2 secret boss as a chud who doesn't know strategy (spoilers!) Spoiler

TLDR: chud with no sense of strategy defeats galdera after 30 hours of trial and error fighting with no guides and a shit ton of luck

No one I know acutally plays Octopath (even though I've been talking a lot about it these past weeks to them) so I'm celebrating here lol

so I've only played a couple of turn-based, strategy games, that being Persona and OT. The Persona series as a whole is famously not that hard, with a few execptions. In OT, I'm usually overleveled to the point where I don't need that much strategy, or really just a simple strategy.

Back in OT1, I did finish Galdera, but I cheesed it via Winnehild's Cry and even that took me a while to figure out. So when I got into OT2, I said I wouldn't cheese this boss, or even look up guides (I did look at a few optimization builds but ultimately did not use any of them)

This took me 2 weeks, and I added around 25-30 hours just for trying Galdera (that's how much of a chud I am at strategy)

Omniscient Eye team: Osvald (Dancer), Paritio (Cleric), Ochette (Merchant), and Temenos (Scholar)
I used Osvald as the main damage dealer, and built his support skills all around just doing as much damage as possible. Partitio and Ochette were for breaking and support ie Beastly Howl to lower defense. Temenos was on healing, support for Osvald, and rarely secondary damage.

Galdera: Hikari (Armsmaster), Throne (Merchant), Agnea (Cleric), Castti (Merchant)

You can tell I way really relying on merchant's Hired Help for breaking at this point lmao
I used Castti as a BP slave and Hikari as a main damage dealer. Agnea was on Cleric in order to heal and use Aelferic's Blessing for Hikari and Castti. When first breaking him, Hikari used Lionheart's Axe on him full boost for a 70K+ damage attack. Throne had previously used Armour Corrosive and Hikari had boosted physical attack. Each Hired Help's Veterans did around 40K damage. Hikari was able to do Lionheart's Axe 3 time in total, twice with full boost. Throne and Castti both did Hired Help once, with 40K damage.

I was so sure I was going to die, but apparently not!

I acutally spent hours making this strategy (basically texting friends different strategies and finding out they didn't work in practice) and I had quite a few strategies in mind haha. In the end it took a lot of luck and praying...

OT0 - Discussion Is the dialogue in Octopath games better than Adventures of Elliot?

I'm not opposed to slice of life dialogue but Elliot was too much. The amount of cheese was overwhelming. It doesn't need to be super adult oriented but would you say the dialogue in Octopath is more mature?
