Question ¿Vale la pena Tales of zestiria?

Judith is aerial combat but hard to keep up the combo without having The correct arts, offensive and defensive skills

Raven has spells, fights long range and close I know he needs change form 1 and 2 and i have them but then what’s the gameplan

Patty has 3 forms physical, magical, the broken one

Question How to keep combos going?

Started playing Tales of Xillia a few days ago which is my first Tales game and I find comboing very unintuitive. Very rarely do my combos go into double digits or even much beyond the AC of my character, I find myself just spamming attacks and artes and hoping for the best. Also occasionally my characters start doing airborne attacks and I have no idea how?

I understand there's a skill for perfect dodging that increases AC and that targeting weaknesses also +1 to AC, but still how do you even achieve decent combos if your AC is so limited? Linked artes are also very confusing and seem to activate almost at random.

Discussion Finished Tales of Graces f Remastered. Thoughts and Questions. Spoiler

Hello,

Some background info:

Playthrough took 123h, with a bunch of grinding, AFKing, going back and forth to check for star events, and talking to everyone available after every major story event.

This is my 3rd Tales game finished. I finished Berseria twice, Symphonia once. Ranking is ToB, ToG................ToS. I finished L&L but didn't start the Zhonecage proper, only reached it.

I played on the hardest difficulty, eventually Chaos when that became available, but I switched to lower difficulties for battles that are harder, more annoying, or ones I did prematurely. I mained Asbel, but used the other party members here and there (main in the tower)

Overall review and feelings:

I really liked it. It felt, and kinda is, a middle ground between ToB and ToS, between one of my favorite games ever and an absolute slog, between combat and gameplay systems I really dug and one I didn't care much for.

I actually liked the child arc more than I expected, and spent like 10h or so on it alone. The overall plot was a lot simpler and didn't have much of that JRPG/anime cheesiness and grandioseness to it which drifted me from Symphonia a bit. You could see where it's gonna go from the get go, but it was still a pleasant journey to go thru.

Combat, having played on Chaos for the most part, felt both really good and very frustrating. Good in that it was sometimes smooth and the actual Artes where fun to use. Frustrating in that you just get Stunned (the status) and stun-locked (getting comboed) a lot which especially became infuriating in boss battles. Overall I still prefer the Berseria combat as it felt smoother and actually allowed me to set my own combos. I also really liked the dungeon puzzles for the most part, much much better than Symphonias.

The music was sadly kinda lackluster. There's only a few that really stuck with me or any story moments enhanced by the music choices. The ones I liked were all the Fendel themes, Telos Astue's, and the Windor ports themes. The main theme of the game is nothing to write home about, and I don't think ever was played in the actual game? Really disappointed by that, since Berseria's was a highlight. Tho there's a lot of the themes that felt familiar having played ToB and ToS, like the highroad themes, and Lhant Hill reminded me of ToB and ToS respectively.

Plot, side stuff, and characters:

I loved the characters. All of them made and impact in their own and I looked forward to every skit. Asbel is on the lower end since he felt like a generic JRPG protag and another swordboy Tales protag, but I liked his overall story and the arc he went thru from childhood to adulthood. My favorite is Pascal due to her whimsy, and Sophie a close second. I liked the arcs that all the characters went thru and how they developed as well. It's not anything groundbreaking, but still fun to experience and endearing to the characters. I also liked the two romances between the cast.

The plot being more straightforward was a pleasant surprise, the world itself felt sufficiently big and not too bloated. The Strahta and Fendel section of them kinda dragged a bit since they both ended in similar ways when you look at the big picture, where Lambda absorbed the Valk Eleth successfully, but at least the Fendel arc itself was enjoyable to go thru. Strahta's was more forgettable and lackluster. Emeraude was an obvious plot twist character, but I felt more could've been done with her and I appreciated her small involvement in the L&L story.

I want to also shout out the art direction for some of the locations and dungeons. Any Amarcian ruins, Fodra locations and dungeons, and the lead up to reaching Fodra's core were all big highlights for me, but I'm biased towards the 'ruined world and civilization' aesthetic.

I really liked the side content in the game. All the skits were entertaining, the star and happy-face events (if you could find them...) were fun as well, and the plot supplementary ones were a nice addition, esp the one about Lady Kerri and Asbel's dad. I lament not following a guide, because finding these was a pain and it always felt like I missed some, or there was a part 2 that I missed. One example is a happy-face event involving 2 sailors on Oul Raye saying they're on a strike, and the captain of the ferry is right there. That event just happens and the whole time I thought there's something I need to do to solve this, but I couldn't find anything.

Some critiques I have were how the 2 Amarcian archives were handled. You present them as this big archive of knowledge, only a few are allowed to enter and really hyping them up, but we barely spend 2mins in each of them. Was hoping they would be utilized more effectively. Another is the whole deal with Pascal and Malik gaining a similar light to the one Sophie gave the Lhant trio, which didn't feel like it did anything and it never got mentioned again.

I do have some questions about some plot elements:

- How did Lambda actually come to be? Is he an entity like LQ?

- I noticed went using the Accel mode mystic arte that Asbel doesn't mention him anymore. Is the implication that he stayed with LQ inside Fodra's core? Doesn't he need a host?

- How did Sophie physically return in 7 years? Is that the time it takes to create another Protos Heis by the presumably automated system? Why did she spawn on Lhant Hill?

- Why was Lambda staying in the Barona catacombs and why was there murals and stuff depicting him down there? I know he fought with the humans when he crash landed, but did they burry him there or what?

- The first time in Orlen woods, why did that Nova creature appear there and presumably destroy the village?

Combat and gameplay systems:

I hated how you can't customize the A-Artes (AA), because it's hard for me to deviate from the bounded combos as I'm not dexterous with a controller (Hard to go AYBX for example, to hit the enemy weaknesses), and some of the combos have movements and animations that doesn't work with the enemy I'm facing, like the start of < and > moves you to the right and away from the enemy for example. Enemies who are weak to AA were always the hardest and most annoying to deal with for that reason. BAs were a lot more fun to work with, customizing them based on the enemies I'm facing which is how I played ToB (customizing my combos based on the enemies in the dungeon).

There was sometimes dead time between some of the animations as well, where you just stand there for a second or less and can't dodge away. That was esp clear when I was using Hubert's default AA combo against the golem enemies in Fodra's core before the LQ final fight, where I finish the combo, but I can't dodge in time since I'm stuck and end up getting hit.

The party AI was also atrocious and the options in the strategy menu were very lacking. The most basic option I wanted was to control when my healers heal the party/member, since seeing Cheria not attack and opt to heal the 100 dmg the 6000hp Asbel took is so annoying. Half of the gameplay is just babysitting your AI team, especially on boss battles. Some of the options also didn't seem to even work, like I put all my party on always guard, but half the time they don't do that. Using them on auto in the battle tower showcased the fault with the AI the best. Seeing Cheria take one instance of damage, then spending the rest of the fight running away trying to heal until the enemies finally down her was a sad and funny visual.

The game's focus on walking big distances on long hallways kinda get boring after a while as well. I know this is to help with the Eleth mixer mechanic, but it got so tedious, especially from someone who made sure to talk to everyone and going back to all the highroads, dungeons, and towns to check for events.

I actually liked the title system, it fit the kinda RPG systems that just activate my brain and make me wanna engage with it and unlock and acquire more. I just wish it was executed better, like give some hints on how to acquire some titles (esp the food ones where I didn't know those were a thing), or show me what Artes got fully mastered on the Artes tab, so I don't have to crosscheck and go back and forth between the Artes and Titles tabs as I want to turn off Artes that are mastered so the character uses Artes that aren't mastered.

I also liked the dualizing system and crafting new equipment from older ones, tho have a lot of issues with it's execution. For example, I wish I could cook without needing a vendor since it makes little sense with how the system is now. The equipment dualizing in general was also very confusing and way too complicated, and it discouraged me from engaging with it for the longest time with how they went about making the equipment in the first place. You have gradually better equipment being given to you (iron>steel...etc) so you're incentivized to get the latest from the shops, but that goes against upgrading, and basically makes new equipment moot since why bother when you've invested in a weapon already. I know now that's better to focus on getting the new equipment, but that confusion for a new player was so annoying. It makes you feel like this system is only worthwhile to get into after NG+ when you have the best weapons already.

The gem dualizing is especially convoluted along with the quality system, where I saw some gems not following the 'take the higher [N] from both gems' rule. There isn't even a guideline in the Library about what quality to combine to get a desired quality, I had to look up the wiki for that, which made fulfilling the requests that ask for equipment of a certain quality very tedious.

This isn't just for the dualizing menu tho it's the biggest culprit, but I really wanted a filtering system when browsing these kinda menus. Like I know the materials list goes from crystals>crafting materials>crafted items>food items>shards, but it's very annoying to scroll and search for the item you want, especially since they're not even filtered alphabetically. Menuing in general was very tedious, the enemy book was especially annoying, where the listings in the All section doesn't make sense at all. Why are sandshroud enemies the last? Before final bosses? Why is a random lizard enemy in the final 30 enemies on the list?

Side tangent/appreciation about Tales of the Rays:

So the actual second Tales game I played was Tales of the Rays, the mobile game which closed it's global server. I played the game since launch and until the global shutdown, and playing that really cemented my fandom for this series. I got and pulled so many characters from various Tales games that I didn't know anything about, but came to like them from TotR, tho granted I rarely if ever read the story/skits/anything in that game.

How this relates to ToG is that I distinctly remember Sophie in TotR being a huge carry for my account in that game. I even remembered using some of her Artes in that game when I saw her use them in ToG, especially the flying swirling kicks BA.

The biggest fanboy/DiCaprio pointing finger meme were the Mystic Artes in TotR and how they're based on important moments in the original game for that character. I identified Cheria's, Malik's Sophie's and Pascal's, that being Cheria crying after being rescued from Strahta's men, Malik's final moment with Kurt, Sophie's second encounter/spawn, and Pascal crying after the first Fourier encounter in Fendal tower. I remember having and using those Mystic Artes in TotR. It's so nostalgia, and I did the same when I played Symphonia (Used Collette a lot in TotR too). I look forward to do the same when I play the other Tales games.

Final thoughts:

Apologies for the long post. I noticed that I dumped a lotta flack on the game for some of it's systems and gameplay, but I still really enjoyed it since it's still a Tales game and it's basically my JRPG series for life at this point, and I knew these characters, the romances, and some of their defining moments from my time playing TotR so they all felt familiar. I spent way too long on this game and I'm not even done yet. I'm still not sure what's the next Tales game I pick up, but can't wait either way.

Question Which version of Tales of Eternia Remastered are you getting for Switch 2?

I’m curious about Switch 2 users what version of Tales of Eternia Remastered are going to buy.

The physical Switch version includes the full game on the cartridge and runs at up to 1080. The Switch 2 version can run at up to 4K in TV mode, but it comes as a gamekey card…

Both versions target up to 60 fps, and there doesn’t seem to be an upgrade from the Switch version to the Switch 2 version.

Considering this is a 20 year old game in 2d, do you think the higher resolution is worth it, or would you rather have a real physical copy of the game instead of a gamekey card?

I’m still undecided. What are you going for?

Answered Trying to remember the name of a Town/City

My memory is horrible. I know I played a Tales game a bit back that had a town that was eternally night. I can't remember which game it was. Think it was Xillia, but could be wrong about that. Again I think the name of the place began with T.

I remember a nearby zone gradually darkening, maybe a map or two, as you neared the town entrance from that route. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Edit: Okay so I jumped around through someone playthrough series on youtube and it is definitely Fennmont. Why I thought it started with a T I couldn't tell you. The video running through the Barnauer Highroad it did progressively get darker as he got closer to the city. Thank you for the help! Now to try and find good images of it.

Discussion Which tales games has the hardest mystic art execution

For me it’s Berseria

Rokuro is straight up impossible

Laphicat and Magilou really hard to do while spamming Malak Arts but at least magilou just needs to do tetra detonator and hold L2

Velvet is no brainer

Eizen and Eleanor depending by the enemy weaknesses if he can be stunned or not

Duel mystic arts are also a bit impossible to do both characters need FULL BG GAUGES then make a switch and you have to mess up your team comp for it to work

Discussion Tips for tales of Vesperia Hard?

I am at Capo noire section and things were good “except that damn wolf bled my inventory” and reading a guide while doing it so i don’t miss important sidequest

But i have a few questions tho

- what are important side quest that are must do before expiration like Brionric

- what “Skills” i should prioritise having like i was planning to use Happines 1 and 2 but google said not worth it + they are 11 SP damn

- can i burst arte > mystic in overlimit? In general i just spam normal attack and arts randomly but gets annoying when they are downed and not taking damage

- for Estelle Mystic arte i need + 20 all burst arts does that include her non elemental burst arte?

Japanese Voice in Nintendo store

Post image
0 Upvotes

Good day. I’m planning to buy Tales of Xillia and Berseria Remastered for my Nintendo Switch Lite, but there’s one thing that concerns me. Japanese isn't listed in the language section on the store page. Does this mean the game will only have English voice acting? Personally, I prefer playing JRPGs with Japanese audio, so this is important to me.

Vesperia I do not understand Combos in Vesperia at all >_<

I'm trying to figure out how combos in Vesperia work and nothing is making sense

As far as I know(playing Yuri) Combos are Basic Attack>Basic Attack>Basic Attack>Base Art>Arcane Art>Burst Art if in Overlimit and that's where the combo ENDS.

And yet I'm seeing people who are just doing shit like chaining 14 arts at once and I'm like... Literally fucking HOW. That's... that's not how the combo rules WORK WTF

I'm lucky if I can get Shining Fang and Dragon Swarm to combo without getting tagged from the side >_<

What the hell is going on?

Edit: God fucking dammit of course it's a skills thing <_<

Discussion Why did Bandai Namco squander all the momentum Arise made?

In light of recent events the team says about the next game taking so long, it makes one wonder why didn't Bamco even try to ride of the success Tales of Arise made for the series? I mean, we all know how; a lot of bad decisions on their part, but why. I mean, Arise sold well & fast too, and even got notoriety from the general RPG community the months before & after its release. And Bandai Namco did pretty much nothing with this. I mean, in 2022, we were content with what was coming. But in 2023, made it clear, they had no idea what to do with this success.

The Tales of Symphonia was a disrespectful demaster for a well-respected entry in the series. And it's 20th anniversary no less. As for the new Arise "expansion" it was an overpriced, bare bones DLC that they still had the gall to charge you even more for extra costumes. Then in 2024, it might've been the darkest time for fans yet. A whole lot of nothing for that year. The Remaster Project was a nice surprise, but it even it came with a few holes.

Furthermore, there's this year. Finally Arise comes out on a Switch console. It's one of those "took'em long enough" things. I mean, why'd it take so long to get it on a Switch? This seems like something that could be done in a year for them. There's some good news. They've actually announced a remaster for a 2-D Tales game. And it's months in advance, so no chewing at the bit like we're used to.

However, there's them acknowledging how the next Tales game is taking so long. Kind of more bad than good. Because the fact they haven't even released teaser or said anything to elevate us is telling of how things have been going since Arise. I mean, why spend so much budget & marketing on Arise and not expected much success? Tomizawa even suggested as much.

Overall, Bandai Namco is an example of not capitalizing on success & leave so much on table. Arise sold & reviewed well but that didn't matter them. They pretty much saw it as a one-and-done deal. They dropped the ball in 2023. They nearly left the fandom dry in 2024. And 2025 was a mixed bag of daftness. 2026 is still hard to tell. They fumbled the Berseria remaster and let it die. And this "news" about them knowing it's taking so long for the next entry is kind of maddening. Them failing to capitalize on Arise success is one of the worse things they've done to the series. Just no appreciation or thought for the series. Your take.

Vesperia Is Tales of Vesperia worth picking up?

Is Tales of Vesperia worth picking up? I'm from the Philippines, so $9.99 on the Xbox sale is still a lot of money for me.

I'm currently bedridden after having a stroke, and I'm also living with clinical depression. I'm looking for a game that can really help take my mind off things for a while. Would you say Tales of Vesperia is worth it in my situation?

Edit: Thanks everyone, i bought it.

Discussion Just finished Tales of Innocence R! This is a weird one...

Post image
15 Upvotes

Innocence R is good and I ended up liking it! My main problem is that the story feels it doesn't sort...go anywhere? Like the the themes is tells are good, but it didn't feel like anything really progressed felt disjointed with the flashbacks everyone would have throughout the story. It felt hard to follow along. I dunno, maybe it's just me.

Gameplay is good too! It's the standard LMBS you're used to with the modern skill system from Vesperia and future games. Though, I'm not a fan of how little points you actually get to equip skills onto the party.

I liked it overall, but not without my grievances. This might need another playthrough in the future.

Anyway, now that I've played four games back to back (Arise, Abyss, Vesperia and Innocence R), I'm feeling Tales'd out. Not sure when I'll get back to these revisits of mine. Probably when the Eternia remaster comes out though.
