What does one do with an excessive amount of floating plants? I hate just throwing them away, but that’s what I’ve been having to do so that my ground plants don’t die. Ive tried drying out the duckweed and salvinia and making fish food, but my creatures have 0 interest in the food. Can anyone share a good recipe?

Making the bubble volcano more of a show piece has highlighted how damn SILLY my fish are playing it in! Every few minutes it lets out a big bubble and I swear thats exactly what they're playing chicken with 😂

Currently I have water sprite in left. I am trying to do a pearlweed carpet. And some cardinal plants in the back right. Should I cut some of the watersprite? I have no co2 and this is a 5.5 gal low tech shrimp tank.

This is my first tank, just over 4 months old. Tisha re happy, plants are sad.

Many of plants have been dying after adding them. (Amazon sword, dwarf grass, and a bunch of others)Some last a few months and others lasting a few weeks. Over half have died. Turning brown, then translucent, and then melting/ dying off.

What I’ve been doing:
-liquid fertilizer
-liquid trace elements containing potassium,phosphate, magnesium, & calcium
-full spectrum light on for 6 hours a day
- root tabs( recently added within a week)

Any tips or advice would be great

My week aqua 900 p L series finally arrived today first issue was that the hoist brackets didn’t fit my rimmed tank but I solved that by digging out some old light brackets I had. Light powers on and the preset colors are amazing but I want to customize it. It’s supposed to have 3.00 app controls it’s not connecting. I tried uninstalling the app, unplugging the light etc. Maybe I am choosing the wrong option for the initial set up. I will attach a couple pics. Help would be appreciated!

I was a bit concerned w/the pic of things on their page. But their pic is legit. It’s one damn plant.

Buce was out of UNS cultures. But Iv gotten other erios before and you’ll get around 5 or so per cup. This whatever other brand blows.

The thing about singles, is sometimes one of em doesn’t make it. And w/the heat you also gotta 2 day or overnight.

There’s some peeps about that got from tanks going but that stuff doesnt always travel well and when your also risking rando algae etc that can only come from contamination you’d rather pure going when dealing with/more sensitive things you generally wouldn’t just chem treat so casually.

So just a what’s up w/their stuff being stingy w/the samples. Tissues can be multiplied etc if they got the gear going already.

I received this salvinia as a free plant from a purchase I made. I was looking for a floating plant and this will do. But apparently there's a ton of duckweed also. I have zero interest in duck weed. Should I toss this and find a cleaner sample? Or is it possible to get rid of the duckweed before putting the salvinia in my tank?

Started a new tank about a month ago, trying a bunch of new plant species I haven't used before. Everything seems to be doing great except the alternanthera reineckii. I made a pretty robust substrate, the lights are decent (although tuned down while it finishes cycling and establishing), and no CO2. I heard they're a bit above "low tech" but would be suitable. Anyone have much experience with these? Do they really flourish in low tech setups or do they really need the advanced gear?

I think i did well with the individual pieces of this scape but as a whole I think its missing something or something is too much. The floating Java moss is going away, going to become part of the betta basket that I know im going to get dogged on for lol. The bad lighting was a one-day experiment, I just ordered a light that is the proper length for the tank. It should be in this evening. The wisteria and crypts feel a bit awkward to me right now. I just got new plants for the background because the vallis just isn't right for my tank. It has melted 4 times so im swapping it out for something different. Im going to mix 3 plants: pogostemon stellatus, bacopa monnieri, and limnophila heterophyla. But I think they will clash with the wisteria. If the background stems grow tall, I am happy with the shorter stems mkre towards the left side. I think im going to move the tsll stem in the middle to make some room for the bacopa or something in the center.

A few days ago I set up this 10 gallon planted tank. This will be my first planted aquarium. As a kid I kept freshwater fish for years (this tank is actually an old one I dug out of storage), but never with any live plants.

This past year I was running a saltwater reef tank that was actually doing quite well, but I had to move unexpectedly, and logistically it would have been to hard to move the tank as well, so I took down the tank and found new homes for all the livestock.

All that to say, I’m new-ish to the hobby. I wanted to share my tank here and see what people have to comment on. Constructive criticism is appreciated! I’d also like some stocking ideas. Right now I’m leaning towards a betta community tank, so any tips or thoughts on that would be helpful. The plants in there currently are Echinodorus, Eleocharis, Hygrophila, and Schismatiglottis, which were all recommended to me by my LFS for being relatively easy.

I am I trying to breed my Perl goirami in my 20 gallon planted aquarium but I’m having some serious issues. I’ve made sure that the male has lots of floating plants and the tank has very very low flow and the temp is at 81. Ive been feeding brine shrimp but no matter what I seem to do, the male is more interested in chasing the female around nonstop and never builds a bubble nest-even when I remove the female. Would anybody with experience with these fish be willing to help me out? Thanks!

Or what hardware to put in. Have seriously been considering setting up a cheap CO2 system.

Just wanted to share my pride and joy

This algae broke out of nowhere! My tank has been set up for 3 to 4 months now, but all of a sudden I have this white fuzzy algae clinging to my plants, and also to my glass and filter. Does anyone know what this could be? I did a massive trim down of my plants today as well to get rid of any dead/ dying leaves. I’m about to do a 30-50 % water change in the next couple of days after I’ve prepped the fresh water and siphon my gravel, I’ll scrape it off too and try get as much fuzz out as I can. Thank you!!

I've given up trying to get rid of it. It's everywhere, on all my plants, decor and even the glass. I just maintain weekly by removing as much of it as I can but I know it'll always be back and in new places. It makes my weekly tank clean up which should be fun a lot more frustrating. I'm thankful that at least it's not harmful to my shrimp and doesn't do much harm to my plants unless left unchecked. Still.. I hate it. I don't want to restart my tank because I have so many rare and expensive plants I don't want to throw away. I'm looking for tips on how to just embrace this stupid algae, any plants that are particularly good for outcompeting it? I have aquaponic pothos and spider plants which worked great for the other algae in my tank, but don't really do anything against the clado.

And also any tips for cleaning it without it breaking apart everywhere?

I have been trying to grow moss in my tank for a while. This Christmas moss has been there for roughly 3 weeks.
The tips are getting yellow I would like some advice, thanks !

Water parameters are ok, only pH is at 7.6

Hello. New here. Stumbled upon some “Tanks for Nothin” videos, and now I’ve got the urge to try what I’d assume is a low tech planted tank?

Trying to keep it simple, I want to pick up a 10 to 20 gallon tank, put some dirt in, layer of sand. Create a hard scape with some rocks and driftwood. Then add water, add plants…

I’m looking at a cheap hygger water pump to move water, a heater to get to 25c, and then probably a hugger light?

Then what, add a few snails? Couple catfish? Some shrimp? Then a pack of gobies/loaches?

What are the things my simple plan are seeing? What type of things should I know?

been thinking about adding plants to my mosquito fish tank but I don’t know how to get The plants into the substrate (what I use to get in and out their deco is a wooden chopstick)

So... this is my first tank, it's day 11 since it's been planted and it's still cycling. Can someone help me identify this black/grayish growth on my driftwood? Every day it looks like it's appearing in new areas, is it blackbeard, detritus from a few of my plants having died or normal, beneficial fungal growth or something else?

It may not be as clean as many of yours but I love the messy natural look.
