Journal collection 30 years of journals

Post image

Got a wild hair a few weeks ago to pull out all my journals and get a photo of them spine up. Forty-three* volumes starting from when I was 14.

*technically more than that as all my Livejournal entries from 2002-07 are printed and Coptic-stitch bound here as well.

Question/Discussion What’s the record amount of journals you’ve completed in one year?

For me it’s gotta be 2025 when I completed 10 journals. In 2023 I completed 7 and 2022 was about 8.

As of now it’s July 2026 and I am already on my 10th journal…

Question/Discussion Journaling spiraling thoughts

Hi everyone, I'm experiencing negative thoughts that tend to spiral and I don't notice until I'm pretty far into it and they have significantly derailed my day and brought down my mood. It's not fun. I'm getting better at identifying spirals earlier though, and would like to use journaling to help me through it. I usually do stream of consciousness journaling and that works really well for me, but I was wondering if for this situation, a more structured approach might be better to rein in my thoughts and give them some boundaries.
I have looked and found some prompts I would like to use, but I'm usually best at adapting what worked for others to suit my needs. So if you've ever used journaling to help with spiraling thoughts and calm your brain down by asking specific questions, it would be great if you could let me know about how you went about it, so I can draw from that.

Thanks!

Just sharing Do you guys travel with your journals too or do you keep it at home? My first time bringing my journal with me on a trip!

I had a week-long school/work trip to Japan and brought my journal along. Here it is at a train station cafe and at the airport! Very zen experience to take a break and write in the middle of traveling.

(+ I was able to buy a new Traveler's Notebook cover to replace my cheap "pleather" one; very happy about that)

Journal collection Years of input

Post image

I've spent many years writing in my journals, and here are most of them, along with a scattering of "stuff" in my study. Every year to year and a half, I switch things up and bounce between handwritten journals and using the computer. I'm about to make that shift back into the handwritten world, because the daily entries have gotten boring and predictable. I need to find new inspirations.

Question/Discussion Hey so I wanna recap my past year. How do I do that?

So basically, I've been depressed for the past year and I recently found myself again and want to write about everything that has happened to me the past year? How do I do that? Memoir form? Recaping months and days? Rewriting past journal entries in a new journal?

I've done so much stuff I want to write down. The time I ran into a burning building with my friend. The time I got chased by a drug dealer. The time I got mistaken for someone else and hid from the cops. Etc.

Question/Discussion do you regret not journaling about your life when you were younger?

I am 17 years old, and I already barely remember my early childhood up to 12 years old. I remember general facts and things I liked, but not really everyday life or how I thought back then. I've started documenting my life up to now, and I have much more to journal about as I get older.. 😋

What things do you regret not writing down?

I'm scared that I'll end up writing down ideas that are insignificant or that I can easily recall anyway, while missing the details I wish I remembered later on :(

Question/Discussion Table of Contents Pages

I just recently got a notebook and there are about 4 pages that are for table of contents. I’m wondering if anyone has some ideas of what to put there. I was thinking maybe just sticker bombing them or something. Maybe someone else has some better more creative takes! Thanks in advance!

Starting a new journal is like starting life all over again. You don’t know what’s going to be on the next line until it happens and you wonder “what is going to happen to me during these blank pages?” That is my reason to continue writing.

First time poster here ^^
My favorite pen finally gave out. I know I used it for EVERYTHING, but I thought we’d have some more time together :(
Also, I’ll definitely talk to my therapist as to why locking myself in a dark closet made me feel safe and sound lol

Question/Discussion Does anyone journal daily in a regular sized Galen Everyday?

Am I crazy to do this? I have only been journaling just under a month and there is a part of me that thinks I should move to something larger but there is another part of me that is enjoying being constricted to this size and finding ways to work within it. But because they only have 135 pages each, even if I keep each entry to a single page, that’s several notebooks per year.

Just sharing feeling like goldilocks... I couldn't write consistently for a year because I decided to switch it up

I dont know if it's an ADHD thing but the type of notepad and size makes such a difference to me.

I began journalling through poetry, then morning pages so I got used to A4, but A4 felt too big to carry around. I'm also very disorganised and would have creative writing, word vomit, notes, and to do lists all over the place. Then I found a B5 journal with numbered pages which was perfect, I could get lost in journalling and organise with page numbers later. But I was travelling and wanted something smaller, I got swept up by the traveller's notebook hype. I bought standard, passport, and found both irksome. A6 and B6 is nice, but I couldn't stream of consciousness the same way. I also found it difficult to "bond" with my journal because it was so modular.

Various set-ups, and finding a couple gorgeous journals later, which are too nice to "ruin", and some others which have lines too wide apart, or too dark, I'm going back to the trusty numbered B5 with perfectly faint 7mm lines. Finally can get back into journalling, and hopefully creative writing, in a way that feels effortless.

It took me ages to do this because I couldn't fathom how something so trivial would matter but alas

If it ain't broke, don't fix it 🥲
