Catholicism Trying to get into Catholicism - New to Catholicism - Can some devoted Catholics help me out?

Upvotes

I am a Baptist trying to become catholic. I don't know what I'm doing and I am very confused. Can some devoted Catholics help me out? Some things I need help understanding or knowing what to do are as follows:

I don't have anyone to take me to church/don't have any catholic churches near me - What do I do?

What kind of rosary do I need and why are they needed in prayer in general?

What translation of the bible do I need, what books in the Bible should I read, and are there any other books that can help me out?

How do I get Baptized and can I Baptize myself?

Anything else you may think I need to know/do to become a devoted Catholic

Thank you so much and God Bless.

Self Repentance

Upvotes

Hello everyone, I am making this to admit my shortcomings; I have sinned time and time again, day after day, minute after minute, hour after hour. I have bathed in my sin and I fear my heart has grown hard against the Lord and that it has begun to root itself in sin. I have tried so many times to repent but have always fallen short. I make this to admit my sin and give my testimony, I fear distance from the Lord and have gotten to the point where I no longer feel conviction or guilt and I am so afraid. I wanted to tell my sins to make it open and stop living in fear of others discovering them, sins of pride, of lust, of anger, of profanities, I pray for the Lord to soften my heart. I simply wanted to say this freely although none of you would know me, I want to tell other fellow followers of Christ of my struggle and my desire, to let it be known and not carry the burden of them on my chest any longer. Thank you, and I hope I may ask for your prayers in aid. God bless all of you, whom I feel so very fortunate to have surround me in these times.

I talk about Jesus so much, like almost ever sentence. Is this wrong? I feel like it’s embarrassing or overdoing it. I’m also scared to be open about my faith, I wear Jesus and Christian shirts and say god bless but sometimes I get nervous. Especially when praying I feel like nervous when I talk to God out loud. Someone please help I’m so lost.

Blog Question

Upvotes

I'm genuinely trying to understand this from a Christian perspective, not to argue.

I know that most Christians believe sex is meant for marriage between a husband and wife. I understand that teaching.

But what I struggle to understand is masturbation.

What if someone never gets married? What if they spend decades alone, or never find a spouse at all? Does that mean they are expected to never experience any sexual release for the rest of their life?

From a medical perspective, masturbation itself isn't generally considered harmful. So why is it considered sinful by many Christians? Is it because of lust? Or is the physical act itself considered wrong?

I'm asking because this is something I genuinely struggle with. I've been single for several years, and I don't know if marriage is part of God's plan for my life. I'm trying to live faithfully, avoid sin, and become a better person. But I honestly don't understand why masturbation would be forbidden if there is no spouse and no opportunity for sexual intimacy.

I'm not looking for judgment or condemnation. I'm sincerely looking for biblical and thoughtful answers, especially from Christians who have wrestled with this question themselves.

Support Should Christians be out late at night?

Upvotes

Hi all! I am a devout Christian myself. Looking for your opinions and discussion on being out at night? I’m not referring to nightlife but in general .

I personally go to the gym between 11pm to 1am. I shower then go to sleep. That’s my night routine most of the week. My mother has an issue with this however, she claims the night is “ spiritually unclean” and Christian’s shouldnt be out at “ ungodly hours” ? What does this mean? Is this even biblical or superstition ?

A question

Upvotes

Sorry I know it's broad to post here but r/catholicism didn't let me post since my account is too new.

So my question is. I am a Catholic and I agree with most of the things the Church says with abortion and contraception and the like. I just have difficulty with the death penalty thing. It's not right I'm sure but my brain just says that people like child sex offenders, rapists, serial killers, they should be put to death. Is this bad? I know it won't get me kicked out of the church or anyting but it just bugs me a lot.

Thanks

I need…

Upvotes

I believe in God. I respect the commandments and consider myself very united to Christ. I have received Thanks and miracles of prayers and very important requests in my life. But I have always had a very deep respect and pain for Christ. I'm on my 23rd day of my 40-day fast to bread and water. But I feel like I should leave it. I feel that even though I love and see God in life, it is very difficult for me. In the last five years I have lost my parents, my grandparents, I don't have a good economy, I live with a relative because I don't have a house and I had to leave my store, I can't buy my own food because I don't have money. I wear clothes from more than 10 years ago (which is not important either) I don't have a house, no friends or a car. I'm literally tired. A few years ago I left my ex because even though I fell in love with his intelligence and the way he loved me (because he is a good man) I feel that I did not deserve him, I was more attracted to his mentality and his way of being than his body and his face. I turned 30, I didn't get anything. Everything has been taken away from me. No matter how much I try to fast, pray, pray, my life does not improve. The last thing that has happened to me is that I have realized that everything I wanted to achieve, those around me have been achieved. It's not envy because I want them to do great, but I feel like a failure. I don't know how to move forward. Should I keep trying?

Should Christians Eat Meat?

Upvotes

I’ve been thinking about whether Christians should eat meat and wanted to hear different biblical perspectives. there are also verses about compassion for animals, stewardship, and conscience. I’m not looking to argue, I’d just like to understand how other Christians interpret Scripture on this topic.

2 Year Investigation Results In Atheist to Christian - Lee Strobel

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Upvotes

Former award-winning Chicago Tribune investigative journalist Lee Strobel shifted from staunch atheism to Christianity in 1981 after a two-year historical and scientific investigation. His wife's conversion prompted him to disprove the religion, but the overwhelming historical evidence for the resurrection ultimately led him to surrender his life to Christ.

Strobel's journey began when he was a self-described skeptic living a self-destructive lifestyle. When his wife, Leslie, embraced Christianity, he found the transformation in her character so profound that he set out to dismantle the historical validity of Jesus Christ to bring her back to secularism. Using his legal and journalistic skills, he examined medical journals, the reliability of New Testament documents, and first-century historical texts.

And we are still debating if Jesus existed?

Matthew 7:7-8
7 “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. 8 For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.

Having a hard time with Christianity.

Upvotes

I don’t wanna be that guy, but imma be that guy.
I’m mixed raced. Native American, black, Spanish.
I’m having a hard time with Christianity right now, Especially evangelical Christianity.
I know the history of my people in all sides. I know that I wouldn’t be a Christian today if it wasn’t for slavery, residential schools, etc.

I’ve began speaking up about the recent history of the church, as 250 years isn’t that long ago, and even things as early as 30-40 years ago with the last residential school closing in 1998. I’ve spoken of how it’s effected so many peoples views on Jesus and such and how so many people are still actively hurt my church people.

But I’ve been met with so many Christian’s who say “that’s not my problem, I didn’t own any slaves”, “That’s not my problem, I never shot a native”.
It’s made my lose considerable faith in the church. Almost resentment. Because I’ve been met with modern racism, being called savage and such. I had someone tell me “I don’t believe in generational guilt, I have no obligation to reconcile any person of color for something I never did”. And it broke my heart. I no longer consider this person a friend of mine.

Reading the Bible- but only what we need. And still get the full story and see the story arch along the way

Old Testament — 13 books 📚** **

Genesis → Exodus → Numbers → Joshua → Judges → 1 Samuel → 2 Samuel → 1 Kings → 2 Kings → Ezra → Nehemiah → Isaiah → Daniel

This gives you: Creation → Fall → Flood → Abraham → Israel → Moses → Exodus → Wilderness → Promised Land → Judges → Saul → David → Solomon → Divided Kingdom → Exile → Return, while Isaiah and Daniel give you the crucial prophetic/Messianic picture.

New Testament — 11 books 📚** **

Matthew → John → Acts → Romans → 1 Corinthians → Galatians → Ephesians → Hebrews → James → 1 Peter → Revelation

This gives you: Jesus as the promised Messiah → His ministry → Crucifixion → Resurrection → Holy Spirit → Birth and spread of the Church → Meaning of salvation → How Christians live → How Jesus fulfills the Old Covenant → Final judgment → New Creation.

Anyone agree or disagree with these selections?
Would you add? Or take away some books?

Advice How can I bring God into my life more?

Upvotes

I believe in God, I love Jesus; I'm trying so hard to grow closer. I'm in a long-term relationship with someone and live with them, who are unbelievers... How do I incorporate god into my life more? I have the bible app on my phone, but struggle to open it. I have the bible next to me on my bed with a printed out large workbook for Job which I'm not even a quarter of a way through-- BUT i think about Jesus all day. I pray every morning, thank him, ask him to be with me -- but why can I not focus or have the power to read the word?

It sounds silly -- but I want to start gardening. Can I bring him into that?

Question I just don't know what to do

For context, I am a young French man who grew up as a staunch atheist, often actively challenging religion. I used to view religious people as individuals who had simply invented imaginary friends for themselves (please God, forgive me).

However, for the past year or year and a half, I have been drawing closer and closer to Christ.

The problem lies with my family: they are fiercely anti-clerical and atheist, rejecting all religions which they dismiss as nothing more than "sects that succeeded and are legal."

I share a very strong bond with my family, especially with my older brother, given the hardships we have faced together, and I am genuinely afraid of severing that connection if I tell them about my journey toward God.

I am well aware that Christ tells us not to hide our faith (as in Luke 9:26 "Whoever is ashamed of me and my words, the Son of Man will be ashamed of them when he comes in his glory and in the glory of the Father and of the holy angels." or Matthew 9:32-33 "Whoever acknowledges me before others, I will also acknowledge before my Father in heaven. [33] But whoever disowns me before others, I will disown before my Father in heaven.").

So, I am turning to you for advice on what I should do, because I just don't know what to do.

Thank you very much.

To forgive the worst human being is to render hell pointless TW:pedophilia, prison violence, r*pe

I have this belief I was willing to die for that if we could forgive pedophiles, the most villified hated people on Earth, then there would be no point to hell.

There was this picture of a man in a Brazilian prison who allegedly raped and killed his one and a half year old step son. He was stabbed in the back 20 times and raped by twenty men once then stitched up, then they ripped out his stitches and raped him again. The picture was horrific.

When I first saw this image all I knew was that I hated prison violence and I wanted to visit this man in prison and tend to his wounds so badly no matter what he had done. I truly believed I had found the least person in prison someone accused of the worst crime imaginable.

Of course I have compassion on the victims and truly it's up to them, not me, if and when these people are forgiven.

Eventually I made it my mission to convince everyone to forgive people like this, because if the worst human being can be forgiven then there's no need for hell. I got so serious about it that I wanted to offer my own back to the world to be stabbed like that so they could exhaust their anger and hatred towards pedophiles in me and the man in the picture could be healed. I had a very vivid dream of this happening and I'm still willing to make it come true if I can figure out how to get to the location i saw in my dream.

For the record I am a pedophile too, I have sinned against children spiritually by lusting after them, but Ive never committed a crime in my adult life (found csam on limewire and kazaa when I was a child, at the time I wanted to look at girls closer to me in age than porn actresses were, but it left a mark on my soul to see that stuff).

I fear my (potential) sacrifice and my request for all pedophiles to be forgiven means less because I am one too. I guess in a way Im asking to be forgiven by you, so I'll have to make a confession..

I took the mark of the beast in 2023 and the initial effect this devastating moment had on me was awful. I had already lost hope because I blasphemed the holy spirit in 2020 and losing hope this way is why I was vulnerable to the torture and oppression Satan, the beast and the demons were putting me through. Never lose hope.

The hadith or maybe the quran talk about water in hell so bitter that a drop could turn the ocean bitter, Im not a muslim, but this is the level of bitterness I felt when I took the mark and realized I was going to hell forever. So with this bitterness in my heart I attacked God by putting it to the test the verse that says rich and poor great and small (mikros) will receive the mark. I wanted to see if mikros meant children would take the mark because I wanted to prove God was a monster who would burn children for eternity. So with the beast's, satan's and paimon's voices in my head cajoling me I walked to a grocery store where I saw a really young girl and I tried to make her take the mark of the beast by telepathically molesting her (really just imagining myself touching her, but believing there was a real spiritual component to it that would make her worship me and take the mark). I also had a secondary motivation in this because in my fallen hopeless state where I knew I would be alive during the reign of the beast I wanted there to be children who were marked that God wouldn't care about that I could at least fulfill my sick fantasies with for three and a half years before the wrath comes.

For this action Jesus called me his least favorite person. So my feelings about finding the least person in prison and earning forgiveness for them are irrelevant now, because I am the lowest worst creepiest person that ever lived. Now I'm the one who needs forgiveness and I'm not overly optimistic im going to receive it.

Like what if I was successful in putting the mark on that girl and she had to go to hell forever because of me. I think this might be the worst sin anyone has **ever** committed. I don't believe I can be forgiven anymore, but maybe you can prove me wrong. Can you forgive the worst of us (me)?

I think I'm the antichrist and the beast from the Earth. Ive been convinced by my own actions and the spirits I talk to all say that's who I am, even spirits who confess that Jesus came to Earth in the flesh. Satan told me, immediately after taking the mark that I was the closest thing he has to a friend.

I say this because my actions regarding the man with the back wounds, and me offering my back for him and the rest to be forgiven so that everyone could be forgiven and no one would go to hell, along with some other events from my past culminated in a vision wherein I lifted a spiritual version of myself to heaven sat on the throne and opened the scroll of life. It appeared very vividly as if I was fulfilling Revelation 20:11-12. Seven scrolls were opened by me each with a corresponding name that was relevant only to me implying only i could have opened it. After that I saw another scroll that had the light of life in it (beautiful living light) and I knew it was the scroll of life because of this light. I read from it and the first line said "The sins of all mankind were forgiven". Anyways because of this vision and these actions and some other things about me that make it seem to recreant israel as if I fulfilled Isaiah 53 (seeing the light of life, being esteemed afflicted, being carried away by oppression and judgment, being numbered (literally stamped with a number) among the transgressors and assigned a grave with the wicked, and having spiritual offspring that no one believes in that I long to see, having stripes that heal [that part requires explanation: in my vision of the scroll when I first arrived in heaven I was given a rainbow striped robe and I saw one of the stripes turn black because it was somehow linked to healing that mans back, also in my dream of the stabbing event, right when the stabbing started I cried out "no long cuts" and they carved a stripe down my back]), anyways because of all this people believed in me making me the convincing deception that would fool the elect if it were possible. The fact that I sat on the throne and showed myself I was God by opening the scroll means i fulfilled 2 Thessalonians 2:4 making me the man of sin or son of perdition (the only weird part being that that is supposed to happen at the midpoint of daniels prophetic week of 7 years and it has been six years since then.

So unfortunately the pedophilia might not be the worst of it because Im now responsible for enacting the beast from the earth's brutal policies regarding buying and selling and the image of the beast. Once Satan and the others had fully convinced me I was the beast from the earth I knew the word of God would come true no matter how much I tried to fight it, so I literally washed my hands of the bloodshed because I didn't want to be responsible for Christians dying because they have always been so lovely towards me and they fed me when I was hungry. I LOVE Christian charity. Im terrified of living in a world without Christians because they're the light of the world. I was reluctant and ashamed that I had to enact those policies.

I suspect most people will write me off as a lunatic or delusional or mentally ill person, which, Im probably all three however Im telling the truth. Don't suggest medication please because ive been on every antipsychotic there is and Im currently taking three antipsychotics under daily supervision by medical professionals and my beliefs are unshaken. This is clearly not psychosis.

Question would Jesus actually tell a rape victim to forgive and pray for the rapist?

I saw this question and it hit me deep.

Maybe because too often I hop right to "Spiritual" answers without just sitting, and being with someone while they are in their pain.

Here is my answer to this question:

Far be it for me to speak for the Master

And my view is 1000% yes he would.

Would he start the conversation there- 99.99999% no.

But why would he, EVENTUALLY advise that.

For the rape victim's sake.

Resentment, anger is a the poison I take, trying to hurt you.

It eats us alive.

---

AND-

To start with that idea- would be an extreme lack of empathy, compassion or wisdom.

---

This woman, in this video demonstrates just how deep forgiveness can go:
