Discussion [TOTK] would be considered better than BOTW if the map was different

I feel like it would avoid the BOTW comparison simply because you’re playing the same world. If they changed the map it would be treated as a completely different and better game.

Discussion [OoT] [TP] How do you think how Link and Malon ended up together after he was sent back in time to warn Zelda about Ganondorf's plans as well as the events of Majora's Mask?

***NOTE:** This is not officially confirmed but heavily supported by Twilight Princess that Link ended up marrying Malon in the Child Timeline. However, it is confirmed that the Hero's Shade is indeed OoT Link and the ancestor of TP Link. **Also, I am talking about Ocarina of Time Link specifically, not Link in general.***

In case your thinking "Link must've married Zelda, plain and simple", I like to point out that while it's a popular and very common ship, it's not entirely impossible but it wouldn't make sense, otherwise TP Link would've been royalty to begin with. Princess Zelda is royalty. Malon is a farm girl. Also, I am well aware that Minamoto did say that it would be great that Princess Zelda was Link's girlfriend, but this is not necessarily confirmation for the story and that was before Twilight Princess entered the picture.

I would also like to rule out some other possible candidates besides Zelda for some specific reasons:

*Saria is close childhood friends with Link and I think that's sweet, plus she seem to really like him. However, the biggest is issue is that Link is Hylian and Saria is Kokiri. Kokiri never reaches physical adulthood and they are created by the Great Deku Tree.

*Ruto likes Link and decides that he shall be her husband. However, not only this is one-sided and he only took the Zora's Sapphire from her because he needed it to save Hyrule, she's a Zora, an aquatic humanoid. Otherwise, TP Link would've been half-Zora.

Discussion [OoTHD] Why do people want a 1:1 OOT remake?

From what I’m reading here, it’s pretty much 50/50. Half of the fans want a complete reimagining, the other half want a strict 1:1 with just updated graphics and QOL changes. I guess I’m just curious why so many people want a 1:1 remake.

For context, OOT was the first Zelda game I played, and I love it to this day. I’m not a big fan of the Wild games because I think they sacrificed too much in the name of open world and exploration, and they felt lacking.

I do think people are a bit blinded by nostalgia though. I’m currently playing the original OOT on N64 and even looking past the graphics and clunky controls, it’s a pretty basic game by today’s standards and has aged badly. At the time it was revolutionary but limited by the N64. The 3DS remaster was perfect IMO if all you want is graphic updates and QOL upgrades, and thats saying something. A 3DS game is not going to hold up well on the Switch 2. Getting a brand new console and playing a $60 game that looks and feels modern, yet still has the same small, empty Hyrule Field will feel incredibly lacklustre imo.

Almost 30 years later gaming has come so far. Imagine if OOT was released back then without any hardware limitations. The same story, charm, dungeons and basic mechanics as the original but an open/semi-open world, bigger map and new places to explore, maybe some new dungeons, characters and side quests. It will keep old and new fans happy by blending the original Zelda formula with the exploration and freedom people fell in love with in the new games.

Idk, I just wanna hear everyone’s thoughts. I think (and hope) this will be the last OOT remake Nintendo ever make so imo they might as well completely reimagine it and treat it as if it’s a completely modern release

Question [SS] Should I pick up Skyward Sword?

for context, I've played through TotK, really enjoyed it. 210 hours. Trying to get into Botw now. Anyway, I'm thinking of picking up Skyward Sword for the Switch 1. I know it's a lot more linear and less open-world, but I do really like story-focused games, and felt like TotK's story was lacking in many areas. I've also been wanting to get into more traditional zelda games. Should I?

Question [BotW] + [TotK] Looking to get into one of the switch games! Botw or Totk?

Hi! I have a switch 2 and im looking to get into one of the games, I hear a lot of discussion about how one of the games makes the other look worse and vice versa and I know they both have their pros and cons but for someone who kinda knows nothing about both games which would you recommend? thank you!!

Question [BOTW] First time playing the game, where are the armors and clothes? I already beat two beasts. Spoiler

I already defeated two beasts and have a decent amount of hours in the game, but have only five clothes, is that right? Does the game had that few armor or I'm missing something?

Discussion [TotK]What if totk had mediocre everything, but a new map?

Imagine this scenario: TotK comes out, with a lame story, Zelda gets kidnapped or whatever. There are new abilities but they are just dumb stuff, like setting stuff on fire, or getting a hookshot, idk. HOWEVER, the map is completely new. Not bigger, not better, but completely new locations, new landmarks, new enemies, new characters. Would it be a better game, and why?

In my opinion yeah, it would be a better game. It seems obvious that an exploration focused game requires the place you're exploring to be unknown.

I'm making this post because we're at the hating TotK stage in the Zelda cycle apparently, but I don't see this choice the devs made being given it's due blame to how the game turned out in the end.

This topic is probably very stale by now, sorry

Question [OoT] Help with the timelines

Hello there! Recently I have been playing ToTK and I'm very invested in the lore of the game and the universe. Sadly, I didn't have the opportunity to play most of the other games so I'm a bit confused with two of the timelines.

Timeline number one in which Link is defeated I understand. Problem comes from tl2 and tl3.

So, TL2 is the one that happens in game in OoT: Link defeats Ganondorf and Zelda sends Link back to the past with his memories intact, which makes him able to alert child Zelda about what is about to happen, Ganondorf is stopped way before he was in the game itself and so Link the hero never actually appears (because he didn't have to). Child Link then goes looking for Navi and the rest is history.

In TL3 Zelda sends Link back without his memories? I'm assuming this last part but I'm guessing it's what happens because otherwise what would be the difference with TL2? And if Link doesn't indeed have his memories, wouldn't the events of the game come to pass nonetheless? He doesn't remember anything so he has his nightmares, is sent to look for Zelda and the game repeats itself.

What am I missing or misunderstanding here? And thanks!

ETA: thanks everyone for the explanations! I get the timelines being a bit wonky is part of the process so I'll just play the games and enjoy without worrying too much about it ^

Question [TotK] I need help finding a Zelda song

• Upvotes

Truthfully I’m not that into Zelda, however I do love the music and have always admired the soundtracks. That said I do need help finding what I think is a Zelda song that was used in a video I watched.

Video in question

The attached video at 20:29 is where the song plays, can’t find it. Every time I Shazam it some shitty unavailable remix pops up and no matter how much I dig I can’t find which song the artist sampled.

If you know the song please tell me I’ve been dying to listen to it without the videos commentary.

Also I don’t know if it’s actually from tears of kingdom or a Zelda song at all im just assuming because I can’t find anything about it.
