I recently had the opportunity to spend some time in Texas, and I have to say, I really enjoyed the experience.

Coming from Germany and now living in the United States, I’ve always been fascinated by how different each state can feel. Texas has its own unique personality the wide open landscapes, the incredible sunsets, the strong sense of community, and the pride people have for where they live.

What impressed me the most was the friendliness of the people I met. Simple conversations with strangers, learning about their lives, and hearing their stories made the experience much more memorable.

I believe every place is shaped by the people who live there. The best part of traveling isn’t just seeing new places, but understanding the culture, traditions, and everyday life of the people who call it home.

I enjoy meeting people from different backgrounds and learning about their experiences. Everyone has a story, whether it’s about family, hobbies, work, travel, or simple moments in life.

For those who live in Texas What is something about Texas that you love and think outsiders may not understand?

Since it's a flair I assume it's positive?

I understand homes here are noticeably large compared to other states. But it gets repetitive and the aesthetics slacks off into becoming somewhat “ugly” even the strip malls have these brown finishing touches with brown fancy stones (stucco, limestone).

This state mainly or all the time uses brick but other states it’s wood or that fiber-cement siding.

Houston? Don’t even get me started lol
DFW? Acceptable at least it has some different ranges of architecture with many various downtowns scattered across the metro area not just a giant suburb. Denton is a great one for example

• The 2026 edition of the Texas High School Coaches Association's (THSCA) Coaching School was one of the greatest gatherings of elite football minds in the country. However the exclusion of one program's high-performing coach and staff as presenters is becoming a worrisome trend. 
• On Tuesday, after THSCA completed its three-day event inside the George R. Brown Convention Center in Houston, Prairie View A&M head coach Tremaine Jackson took umbrage with the fact that he, along with his Panthers coaching staff, were not invited to lead clinics and give presentations to thousands of attendees. In particular, the event offers an opportunity to make relationships with high school coaches across the state who could mutually benefit from hearing from one another in such an intimate setting.
• "Why weren't our coaches there? We heard that coaches were invited based off of last year's results," Jackson said on social media Tuesday. "If that was the case, if that was the criteria, then somebody should have invited our assistant coaches, our coordinators, our position coaches; they did a phenomenal job.
• "We're the only school in the state of Texas to play for a national championship. Regardless of the result, we were the only school in this state to get there...And so if that's the criteria, then why weren't they selected? Why weren't they invited?"

Has anyone here grown up hearing this story? I'm curious how many people in Texas still remember the Lake Worth Monster or heard it from parents or grandparents. Was it treated as a real event, local folklore, or just a fun legend?

Hi! not sure if there are any league fans on this reddit but since worlds is happening in texas thought i could post here. Helping to purcahse worlds swiss stage tickets, was really lucky enough to get myself finals tickets, open to dm if anyone is interested. also have semis and quarters but debating on going myself instead of selling; prices will be from 150-500 depending on stage and seat, open to offers!

Buc-ee’s breakfast might not get the same shouted headlines as afternoon and evening meals, but the Texas-sized service center starts cranking out biscuits, tacos, sandwiches and more at 4 a.m. Breakfast service runs until 10:30 a.m.

I requested a defferal for my jury duty because the office i work for (part time 2 days a week) needs me due to all the assitants being out (just 3 of us in total) that week I have jury duty. Financially, it would be better for me to work.

The clerk replied to my request through email and said thats the request was accepted and I can choose any monday in October. But the thing is, ill be back in college for the fall and im required by the health program im enrolled in to be full time attendance. I cant miss.

So now what? I already used a "one time exucsal of service" for work. I dont know what i should do. What should I say to the clerk?

The Houston Chronicle has an op-ed about how buildings aren't being designed to deal with our hot, and getting hotter, summers. Here is a key quote:

People tend to underestimate indoor heat for a few reasons.

One is that the thermostat typically sits on one wall in one room. It does not tell what the temperature is in an upstairs bedroom or near a sun-facing window. In older, underinsulated homes, the actual felt temperature can exceed 90 degrees even when a thermostat reads 75. The hot walls, ceilings and windows can radiate heat directly onto your body.

Another reason is that people assume all homes respond to heat the same way. However, a newer home with double-pane windows and good insulation acts like a thermos, keeping heat out for a longer time. An older home with single-pane windows and cracks in the walls heats up fast.

Two houses on the same street, exposed to the same outdoor conditions, can have completely different temperatures inside. And in a blackout, where neither home has cooling, those differences can become a matter of life and death.

Really not the best looking courthouse, so I waited to try to at least get a good sky to go along to help fluff up the photos a bit more.

In the early 1970s, a plan to extend SH-225 west to Downtown Houston (Harrisburg Freeway) was ultimately cancelled due to local opposition from community leaders from the East End, Second Ward, and Magnolia neighborhood.

The plan would've significantly changed the way the eastern part of Houston would have looked, by destroying and dividing minority communities. The only remnants of this project is the western end of SH-225, which ends abrutly at a stub.

Similiarly, in the 1960s, a right-of-way was built on the side of Fairmont Parkway and Red Bluff Rd in order to built a highway (Gap Highway) that would've connected to SH-146 in the east. However, the project never took off due to funding issues and shifting priorities. The proposal was finally killed off in 2010 by TXDOT.
