Why is there suddenly a bunch of state troopers?

20 Upvotes

Seen like 8-10 state trooper vehicles today while trying to eat out. S.Washington and Georgia St as of now. Havent been to downtown yet. Before, I usually see one out on the interstate or in the city. Why is that? Been noticing this for like the past week or so. Find it a bit strange that theyre usually uncommon here and now theres a suddenly a shit ton of them here for some reason.

I 40 DPS Chase

9 Upvotes

This morning 0330+-, there was a state trooper chase on I 40. Probably 30 troopers and undercovers, I had just gotten on 40 getting off of 27 going east, when two troopers come up behind the traffic and get off at Ross.

Then a black sedan, definitely not a police car, with it's lights turned off, passed three wide traffic on the inside shoulder of the interstate, who is I am assuming they were chasing because that's when all of the troopers come after on high pursuit. By the time I made it to 335, it looked like they all went south.

Haven't heard any news about it yet.

Kids Birthday Party

13 Upvotes

I need your help, Amarillo, as I am still learning the town. Our twins' 9th birthday is coming up on September 16th. I was planning on Wonderland. However, I found out yesterday when I called to get prices and make a reservation, it won't be open at that time as they close for the winter months. Other than Cinergy, AirU, and Mr. Gattis, are there any other places you could recommend? The food and play doesn't necessarily have to be at the same location, but for logistical reasons and transportation of up to twenty 9 year olds, it would be easiest for sure. Thank you in advance for your assistantance.

Vets that aren't owned by private equity?

Any recommendations for a vet that isn't owned by a private equity? We like where we've been going for a few years, but they've got bought at a certain point and I have really felt it in the price hikes. Thanks!

Texas Moral Consistency Border Vigilance Act

A BILL
to ensure that Texas moral values shall prevail not only within the sacred boundaries of this state, but also wherever a Texan may roam, wander, gamble, sin, or otherwise attempt to enjoy personal liberty activities deemed ILLEGAL in Texas.

WHEREAS, Texas’s moral values must prevail not just within our borders, but wherever our residents may travel;

WHEREAS, consistency demands that if Texas may condemn one lawful out-of-state act, Texas may surely condemn them all;

WHEREAS, certain Extreme Radicals — bless their little hearts — continue to insist that legal conduct in another state is somehow “legal” merely because it occurs in another state;

THEREFORE, be it enacted by the Legislature of the State of Texas:

Section 1. Border Surveillance Mandate

Every border municipality shall install, operate, maintain, polish, bless, and periodically admire Automated License Plate Reader cameras at every practical crossing point leaving the State of Texas, at the municipality’s sole expense, because the eyes of Texas are upon you.

Section 2. Citizen Reporting Requirement

Any person who observes, suspects, overhears, dreams about, or receives a suspiciously cheerful text message suggesting that another Texan has crossed state lines for the purpose of gambling shall report such conduct immediately.

Failure to report may result in civil action, public moral disappointment, and possible ICE detention, whether or not the non-compliant 'civilian' failing to report was born in the United States, possesses a valid birth certificate, or can recite the Pledge of Allegiance backward while holding a brisket.

Section 3. Municipal Consequences

Any municipality failing to install the required ALPR cameras, enforce this Act, or otherwise demonstrate sufficient enthusiasm for statewide moral surveillance shall risk the loss of its city status, municipal dignity, barbecue privileges, and all remaining claim to being “Texas enough.”

Such decision shall be final, binding, and divinely understood to be correct, as ordained by our almighty leader and savior, the Governor of Texas.

Section 4. Constitutional Consistency Clause

For heightened enforcement, ICE may detain violators regardless of United States birth status.

Furthermore, because Texas is, for all practical purposes and bumper-sticker purposes, its own country, this state does not recognize the applicability of the 14th Amendment of the United States Constitution when such recognition would interfere with Texas doing Texas things.

Section 5. Approved Moral Reality

In honor of ensuring that one vision rules all, the Texas and Christian Nationalists this Act hereby affirms the following principles for all Texas.

War is peace.
Freedom is slavery.
Ignorance is strength.
Surveillance is liberty.
Hypocrisy is consistency.
Obedience is freedom.
Choice is disorder.
Privacy is suspicion.
Reading is rebellion.
Memory is contraband.
Neighborly love is best expressed through anonymous reporting.

Any resident found thinking independently, traveling suspiciously, asking too many questions, reading unapproved materials, or expressing insufficient enthusiasm for the moral clarity of this Act shall be presumed in need of correction, reflection, and possibly a government-approved pamphlet explaining why they were wrong all along.

For the avoidance of doubt, books may be burned metaphorically or literally, provided the flames are patriotic; women may be blessed, protected, monitored, and corrected in whatever order the State finds administratively convenient; and all Texans shall be considered equal, though some Texans shall be considered more Texas than others.

Let this law stand as a testament to one moral truth for all, Texas-style.

What are the best vape shops in Amarillo

0 Upvotes

I'm a new transplant. Rather than drive all over Amarillo I thought I would engage the local hive mind to find out where our best vape shops are located. Looking for a good selection of rolling papers and nic vapes (of the non-disposable variety).

Which shops are worth checking out? Thank you for your opinions!

VA disability claim in Amarillo/lubbock Area

1 Upvotes

I live in Amarillo. I am currently going through the process of service connecting my hip and back issues to a severe ankle injury while in the marines. I am also working on an increase for the ankle as I can’t lift my foot off the ground anymore. Are there any doctors in Amarillo that help with nexus letters and DBQs? I have relied on the VA c&p in the past and it was less than helpful, and in fact pretty dejecting. I recently went to an Orthopedist and told them my issues and what was trying to do before I went in. They seemed very helpful and even asked for my military medical records which I thought was a good sign. They even said that even though the dr doesn’t normally do ankle,but they asked him and he said he’d be more than willing to help with a diagnosis. Well, on the day of the appt, the doctor had no clue, had not looked at my records, and pontificated on how he doesn’t do ankles, and immediately says he’s never done anything with the VA. Ok, I have had terrible experiences with doctors and fully expected this, so I came prepared. I brought records with me, I brought a sample Nexus letter, I brought the DBQs, and I brought my personal notes. I told him that’s ok, I brought my records, that he doesn’t have to do the DBQs ( I wouldn’t want him to anyway now that I know he isnt familiar), and that I would really like if he could do a nexus if he felt comfortable after the appt, but I understood if he couldn’t . He could not have not have been less interested. Went through about 20 pages of my record in 5 seconds and literally tossed them into the chair next to me without a care. He looked at my ankle literally shrugged and said “ehh, I don’t know”. And since I told him that my ankle is has cause my limp and hip pain over the years, he just said go see an ankle doctor and I left with Nothing. No diagnosis, no independent medical opinion, nothing. just a copay and likely a bill for X-rays. I do have PCP and podiatrist appts scheduled as well but fear the same thing is going to happen. This turned more into a rant than a question. But any advice local to the Amarillo or Lubbock area would be appreciated.

Water Park

9 Upvotes

My husband and I moved here this past November, so it's our first summer here. Is there a reason Amarillo doesn't have a water park? My husband managed Schlitterbaughn for 10 1/2 years before moving here to help his mother. We figured with I-40 and several major cities being within 5 hrs of Amarillo, one would thrive? Is it the weather? Short Summers? Will locals support it? We were just curious.
