Discussion Help me decide
So this is probably one of the weirder tiebreakers because of how different these two knives are, but currently Iām having a hard time deciding between the new buck 110 with pocket clip and magnacut or a PM2 in magnacut. I do a ton of land management work and Iām in school for environmental science. Obviously the buck 110 has a lot of nostalgia and itās obviously an incredibly beautiful knife.
I worry about the ability to clean both of these? Frequently, Iām cutting bundles of aquatic plants while waste deep in a creek, or cutting up different bait to try to capture a target species of fish for conservation. But Iām not mechanically smart enough to figure out which one of these would be easier to clean.
Also, the tip of the buck 110 seems incredibly thin and easy to break, but the spider hole on the paramilitary also seems like a weak point

Discussion I can see the real appeal of guards now
Came from run and saw some nice dry sticks to use as a fire starter for my grill and my first stick I was about to prep my hand slipped from the handle and slide down the blade. Resulting in said picture; bad grip, sweaty hands and being tired was the culprit in my opinion. But now it has me wondering and considering a folding knife with a guard like the Project X. Feel free to let me know of recommendations or if you had similar instances of your hand slipping down to the blade.

NSFW I just watch my 9.3ā crooked river get snagged and Iām bummed.
I worked 16.5 hrs, commuted 1 1/2 hrs home. Showered did laundry and jetted out the door to catch my flight with the wife for a vacation. I brought my work back pack and thought I took everything out. Didnāt check a zipper compartment and forgot my crooked river was in there TSA just scored. It hurts, guys.
Also, we shuttled in and no checked bags.

Showcase Today's Carry
Today's Carry is an older Arcane Designs model that I purchased after market, the Preytheon. It's an inset liner lock with 20CV blade steel and titanium scales with zircuti inlay. Running on ceramic bearings, with thumb studs and front flipper deployment.

Modding Shadacious Mod
Shadacious mods: just completed the ābackspacer eliminatorā operation with standoffs from RGT. Eliminates a bit of weight and makes it easier to clean. I prefer the open back look. This Shadacious was my test bed, and I may do it on the others soon

Question Help with CRK purchase
I want to actually hold the knife before I decide to drop a big chunk of change on a new CRK. it will be the most i ever spent on a knife so kinda worried about liking it. My question is, where can I go to put it in my hand before purchasing? Like store fronts that carry CRK's? I'm in the Chicagoland area but do enjoy traveling

Question How much would a custom knife set cost if I give some of the materials?
As the title suggests, I would at some point want to have a custom knife set with specific things. I have had two passions in life: paleontology and culinary. I recently gave up my dreams of being a paleontology curator to be a butcher (much less school and more hands on work for my ADHD self). I already have fossils and I had the thought of putting them into the handles of a knife set (whale vertebrae for a clever, whale rib for a chefs knife, deer antler for a boning knife, and a horse tooth for a paring knife). How much would that cost? Obviously this wouldn't be for a VERY long time considering I'm just now going into college, but I'm very curious

Arthur Wright Ettrick in Ironwood
Rough Ryder Canoe in Stag
+ the first leather item I made for nostalgia
The Sheffield lad in me always enjoys a good AW knife to remind me where I came from since I live in NL now and since it's made by a mate from high school it's pretty cool to have anyways!
Rough Ryders are always a nice cheap option that always seem to have nice fit and finish in my experience while looking pretty cool.
