I just bought this sword from an antiques place for £67, they didn’t have a certificate of authenticity or anything but for a first time sword I thought it was a decent price. Does it look authentic to anyone here who’s more knowledgeable than me? And if it is, would be I able to use detol wipes to clean it and use it to cut fruit

This is a different piece from previous one.

The design and fitting theme are based of a historical antique piece from a private collection.

The blade is called Double edge Tai Lue (ไตลื้อ-สองคม) referring to Tai culture with their intricate silver work and unique blade shape for this design.

The blade is slim yet subtle with powerful cutting ability due to the central ridge and a widen blade profile and still maintain superior thrusting capability with the sharp tip on the center of the blade.

The silver work is done to closely match the original while not trying to be 100% identical.

Overall this is one of the new pieces we are starting to offer for our new line of premium silver work Dha/Dhaab at Siamese Edge

I have no idea if this is original or a repro, any help would be appreciated in figuring out what it is/when it’s from. Thanks!

I like antique military sabers they're one of my favorite category of swords, but one pet peeve i have is metal scabbards, for both practical and superficial reasons.

If I'm looking for an antique I usually see if they still have the leather wrap, both because I think they look cooler, and I hate cleaning the rust off of scabbards.

But for the practical reasons for modern scabbards, is they dull the blade when I'm drawing them, and when I'm doing test cuts, it always pains me to hear that scratch when I pull it from the scabbard.

I get it's more durable than wood, and easier to mass produce, and they worried less about a sword being sharp as firearm technology got better.

I know I'm probably nitpicking but I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one with hot takes about swords, so use this please tell me I'm not crazy about this?

A little update on a current wedding sword project I’ve been working on the last month :D
This is a Longsword that is inspired by the famous Germanic writhen hilt longsword which resides in the UK. The blade is 276 layers of 1084 and 15n20 Damascus; the hilt is cast bronze and African Blackwood grips :)
The guard and pommel are first carved in a wax and then burnt out and cast with yellow bronze alloy, and then cleaned up. I’m hoping to get the stone set in the guard today or tomorrow, as well as have all the bronze pieces ready for assembly Lord willing :)

I work for a comic book store, and we recently bought a collection of war gaming miniatures and this dagger was among the boxes of minis. Any information would be appreciated. The collection also came with some daggers of the nazi variety I may post soon. Thanks!

I found this sword while i was in strasbourg, the shop owner said that it was a real mauritanian sword, but couldnt tell me about the age. It has quite the rust at the base of the blade and wear marks all over, its also dull with exception of the tip and maybe 1cm under it. The lower part of the handle is a little bit lose when slightly twisting. The engravings are a combination of fine round stamps. How could i polish the blade?

Sharing my Japanese katana. The mei/papers read:

越後國府内住兼明作

Echigo no Kuni Fuchūnai-jū Kaneaki saku

“Made by Kaneaki, resident of Fuchū in Echigo Province.”

Echigo Province corresponds to modern Niigata Prefecture. From the paperwork and previous information I’ve received, this appears to be an early Edo-period blade, possibly Kan’ei-era, so roughly 1600s.

The blade has NBTHK Tokubetsu Hozon papers dated February 2, 2017, and the registration is from Niigata, dated October 22, 1965. Blade length is just under 67.9 cm, putting it in katana range.

The koshirae/mounts are not original to the blade. I had the tsuka/handle lengthened about two years ago and had it rewrapped with the green ito. So the handle and wrap are modern work, but the blade itself is the historical part.

Happy to hear any thoughts from people who know more about the smith, school, workmanship, or period.

Hello, I found this place for some help, my sister's boyfriend had this katana that he had left in my dad's house for 7 months, they both were told multiple times within those 7 months to come get their stuff but they never did so I decided to take in the sword. Upon opening the sword I found some spots of rust and there is crumbly residue on the blade, what I'm assuming is old wax, and there are some other things but the rust is what is most concerning and I don't know anything about this stuff but I'm determined to at least try to fix it up. If someone could recommend something to clean and remove the rust safely, that would be great. I have already contacted the manufacturer at Medieval Collectables, but I don't have the information they need to give cleaning advice and they also said restoration wasn't something they knew how to do.

Edit: I am fully aware it is not a valuable or even real sword, that shouldn't change the fact that I asked for advice, not asked for people to tell me that it isn't worth it.

I am looking to get my first proper sword, and have had my eye on the German Writhen Hilted Sword (1480) replica by Deepeeka. I plan to have it sharpened and use it for cutting. I hope there production is well balanced and represents a proper functional sword, but the 8 inch point of balance seems a concern. Can someone with experience reinsure or warn me please.
