Hi everyone,
I'm an electrician, and I'd like to use my business to help raise money for animal rescue. Over the past 15 years, I have volunteered my time with the SPCA, but with them shutting down here and my own business becoming busier, I've been looking for a more efficient way to continue helping while supporting a smaller rescue where donations can make a big impact.
I'll be donating a limited number of electrical service appointments where, instead of paying me, you'll donate the value of the work directly to Soft Paws Cat Rescue. I plan to donate approximately 2–4 appointments per month, depending on my how busy I am.
Before I launch this on Facebook, I'd like to do a small beta test with a couple of appointments through r/PrinceGeorge. This will help me fine-tune the pricing, wording, and overall process. Feedback is very welcome.
This fundraiser is being done with the permission of Soft Paws Cat Rescue. All donations go directly to Soft Paws Cat Rescue via the donation email listed on their Facebook page. I do not handle any donations myself, or supply you a link.
I don't generally like using charity as a form of self-promotion, but I also understand you'll want to know who's coming into your home. I'm a licensed, insured, and established electrician in Prince George, and I'll include a link to my Facebook page at the bottom if you'd like to check me out first.
How it works
I've put together a fixed-price list of eligible services. This keeps things simple, sets clear expectations, and limits the amount of time and materials I'm able to supply while still providing complete services.
- Choose one or more services from the list below.
- Comment or send me a message on a first-come, first-served basis.
- I'll schedule and complete the work.
- Once the work is finished, you'll donate the agreed amount directly to Soft Paws Cat Rescue by navigating yourself to their Facebook page and using e-transfer to the email on their page.
Price List
Please note: Light fixtures must be supplied by the customer. Fixtures must be CSA or ULC approved.
- Basic light fixture installation — $75 each
- Hanging light fixture installation (no large or complex chandeliers) — $100 each
- Ceiling fan installation — $250 each
- Add $50 if a fan-rated electrical box is required.
- Standard outlet or switch replacement — $25 each
- Electrical troubleshooting — $150/hour
Program limits:
- Minimum donation: $200
- Maximum value per appointment: $300
- Includes up to $20 in materials (approximately 12 standard outlets or switches with cover plates). Any additional materials can be supplied by the customer or billed separately.
That's it! You'll get your electrical work done, and every dollar goes directly to helping local cats in need.
I appreciate any feedback on the idea, pricing, or wording before I roll this out more broadly.
