New to town young family
Came from big city with young kids for quieter simpler life. Both from small rural towns and looking forward to integrating into community. Stay at home mom wondering where to meet people? Specific mom walking groups? Popular libraries? Parks? Facebook groups?

Chillibowl Lanes
What's the deal with this place? It's obviously a dump today, but with a history going back to the early 80s, it must have seen better days. Who owns it? Why don't they care? Is there any hope for an actually decent spot for folks to bowl in Chilliwack?

Commuting
Commuters of Chilliwack! Im trying to gauge whether the discounted property for sale right now in Chilliwack are worth it based on my possible commute. I'll be working at YVR (5 on 3 off, 6am starts).
Whats the furthest anyone here commutes from Chilliwack, how long does it take you, and what kinda schedule helps you do it?

Poutine?
Visiting family for the next bit but have recently moved abroad.
I need the best local poutine. Please lol
I’d rank importance as 1- fries (crispy, salty, ideally skin on but whatever. Homemade not Sysco), 2 - gravy/sauce, 3 - curds/cheese

What’s a good place to hang out in for a workaholic
My body is too tired after 6 days of work to spend it hiking every week; I just need a place to decompress where I don’t have to drink or feel awkward being there alone

Monitored home security companies
I'm hoping you can help me from afar.
I live 3 provinces over and can only do so much, so my hope is my former hometown can help.
My elderly mother is in the market for a monitored alarm system. Problems are:
1) she doesn't have a cell phone with data - nor can she afford a plan that charges that much ($60/mth +) - meaning she can't monitor through their app. I would have it downloaded so I can monitor it.
2) she has the most basic of basic internet - again, mainly due to cost, but she also doesn't have a need for fast internet)
3) it needs to be a super simple keypad set up - not these fancy touch screen. Actual buttons. She has a hard time with touch screens due to sensitivity issues.
4) she can't afford a lump sum up front system with monitoring, again due to cost. If there is a company that waives the equipment fee for a termed commitment, that would be ideal.
She called telus, way overpriced.
She called Roger's. They don't do alarms.
She says she called 2 companies in Chilliwack. I can't remember the names, but she said 1 wasn't BBB recognized, so she wouldn't do business with them, and the other one quoted her $1600 for equipment and install with 1 "free" year of monitoring. *Clearly* that isn't happening.
When I lived there Contact security was highly recommended. Are they still there?
Who else could you recommend 🤔.
My mom appreciates the help and suggestions, as do I.

Anyone went down to Kelowna recently?
I’m planning on going down there this weekend but was wondering if the smoke is bad? If it’s like Chilliwack, it’s fine

I recently moved from Langley and I loved using task rabbit for cleaning services but I’m so disappointed that there is no taskers using task rabbit here! Hoping people start using the app here as well! It’s a great resource to promote your services and for side hustle!

Advice for obtaining a part-time job
Hi all,
So I've probably applied to tens and tens of jobs by now to no success. I can't tell you how many jobs I've applied to that never even contacted me to provide a rejection. I don't want to be that person that nags a business repeatedly asking for updates, but it feels impossible nowadays to get a job. Even when I check job portals, I still see the postings I've applied to still on the sites which to me feels like the positions haven't been filled yet but there doesn't seem to be the courtesy of an automated rejection email anymore.
For reference, I have retail experience and really good availability (several days a week completely free for 8 hour shifts).
Is anyone else extremely frustrated by the job market? It's challenging trying to earn income as a 20-something year old. I understand the job markets probably oversaturated with applicants, but if anyone has advice for getting a part-time job around here I'd greatly appreciate it.
EDIT: i should've added this in the original post, but I'm a university student. I get this probably factors in to jobs because some employers might not want to accept a student, but in previous years I feel like this wasn't that big of a factor and a lot of jobs were considerate for students.

Recent immigrants seeking advice! (Again!)
Hi new neighbors!
I have posted a few times but we're here! We arrived yesterday and unloaded the moving truck into the new apartment today.
We have some questions regarding telecom--who do you recommend for wireless and internet? We're on Cheam if that matters.
Any hidden gems in terms of stores or restaurants?
Any customs we might not think about? It seems like removing shoes when entering someone's home is the custom here, not so much back home, but anything you can think of that will at least delay us looking like dumb Americans?
My wife will start working at Abbotsford Regional here soon, but if you're looking for a sales professional with over ten years experience in diverse, niche, and international markets I am looking!
Thank you! We're so excited to be here!
