Mod Post Please be cautious of participating in surveys of trans people

1.3k Upvotes

Hey all,

The mod team wants to remind you to please be cautious of participating with research teams and surveys that are studying trans people.

Another trans subreddit offered the following statement to their subscribers:

"Lisa Littman, a transphobic researcher who invented the concept of "rapid-onset gender dysphoria", recently asked our moderation team for permission to post about a study she's working on with Kenneth Zucker and J. Michael Bailey. We said no." The moderators went on to offer contact information in the case of this survey popping up.

There are numerous organizations attempting to study trans people right now with dubious intent. It's important that you remember to verify the source of the studies, related organizations, and the names of the lead researchers before moving forward with any of these. It's very easy for a research group to manipulate data to get the results they want.

As a reminder, however, we do allow some surveys on this subreddit, but we require all surveyors to be screened by our moderation team first. If you feel that a survey is here without being screened first, please report the post AND message our moderator team so we can take a look.

Thank you!

Good News Dutch Health Council Universally Endorses Trans Youth Care

https://www.erininthemorning.com/p/landmark-official-dutch-review-recommends

The Health Council of the Netherlands has universally endorsed gender-affirming care for trans youth and called for the expansion of access to said care, deeming reducing waiting times "morally urgent". The Council also summarily dismissed as thoroughly irrelevant the heavily manipulated Cass Review.

Venting I'm so sick of this 'woke transphobia' lol

so for clarity, I'm an Australian, in my country there is this group called "the lesbian action group" or some shit like that. they have been for years now trying to receive an exemption from an anti-discrimination act so they can exclude trans women, and it's like, the worst part is, they're not even like 'oh trans women are men'
they're just like "oh we just want a space for Afab lesbians" its like...guh? huh? wuh? but we're women too? I'd honestly just rather them be openly transphobic lol. they bring up points like 'oh some of our founders we're trans' yeah whats your point? that doesn't reflect at all on what you're doing lol.

Venting Why people have to be so cruel with us?

The video of the trans girl in Florida being tased and arrested because she had a mental health crisis and she demanded her pronouns to be respected has me feeling really bad, mostly because it is being used just for entertainment and to demean an entire group of people, and because she could have easily been me. I am autistic and prone to meltdowns when dealing with stressful situations, and honestly I don't know why people use this to make fun of us. Why do people think we deserve no dignity or respect? Why do we only exist to be used as transphobic comedy punchlines? Why don't people want to have a bit of empathy and compassion with us? I really want to cry because of this. I really feel bad for her.

I really hate society. I just want to live in a virtual world or with androids that don't judge us...

Euphoria I went to a shopping mall wearing a dress… it went different than I expected

I went to a shopping mall wearing a VERY feminine outfit. Lavender floral dress with puffy sleeves (I LOVE those sleeves), feminine hat, glasses, heeled boots, the works really. Even though I live in an area that is considered quite queer-friendly, I expected to get looks. I’m not on HRT, but other than barely visible chin hair and no more mustache hair than a cis woman would have, and I think I pass pretty well. I surprisingly didn’t get any strange looks, though. Anyone who paid any mind to me smiled, other than a few people. A store I’m at a decent amount of time every few months has a really nice employee who complimented my lavender-covered outfit. The topping on the cake, though: a guy who runs one of those hair stands in the hall of the shopping mall said “excuse me, ma’am“ and asked me if I wanted my hair done. ”Ma’am”! He called me ma’am!!! I felt so good.

Edit: So many of you have congratulated me and been so nice! Thank all of you!

Trans and Thriving I'm... starting to also look at men differently

Until my egg cracked, I identified as a hetero cis male. When it cracked, I identified as a trans-female lesbian. 7 months into HRT, and I'm starting to notice men. Not simply in appreciating someone's look. It's going to be a fun wrinkle to explore, for sure.

Discussion Tip for the brainworms

So I have my "trans reddit" account and my "everything else" account, where this one is only in queer spaces (mostly trans and lesbian spaces). I see soooo many pics of trans women on this account from things like trans timelines, trans passing, trans positive, etc, and felt like a lot of the features I was seeing in myself were clocky because they were familiar in these spaces.

Recently I subbed to r/makeupaddiction, which seems to be a sub that mostly cis women post on. And as it's been mixed up in my feed, I've realized that I've been incorrectly "clocking" cis women from that sub thinking it was a trans sub, only to realize "no wait this is a cis woman". It's made me realize that a lot of us pass a lot better than we think we do, and a lot of the clocky features we see are just normal human variance. Like I've always ***known*** that, but I think it took that sub being mixed in with trans subs for my emotions to actually accept it as true.

Anyway just food for thought, if y'all are mostly looking at trans women you should sub to some less trans leaning subs as well. Might help with your brainworms, like it has mine.

Venting How did you know you were actually trans?

Hey girls, hey everyone.

I'm kinda lost right now, so sorry for venting here again.

Basically, I've been about two weeks clean from any sissy/trans/feminization porn or anything like that. I stopped because I wanted to figure out if I'm actually MTF (a trans woman), or if all of this was just something that porn put into my head.

The problem is... I can't stop thinking about it.

I keep thinking about being a woman. Sometimes I think about everyday life as a woman, and yeah, I also think about sex as a woman. And I'm just like, "What the fuck do I do?"

I saw a post here talking about "Do I want to be her, or do I want her?" and that hit me pretty hard. I've been asking myself that for a long time, and honestly, a lot of the time it feels like I want to be her.

It's really confusing, and these thoughts just won't leave my head.

A little over a week ago I tried wearing some women's clothes. Nothing super feminine, mostly neutral stuff since I have a pretty masculine body. I'm 23. I also shaved all my body hair from the neck down, and... I actually liked it. To be fair, I've done that before, so it wasn't completely new, but it still felt good.

I'm just scared of making a huge decision in my life if all of this is actually just because of porn. I want to know who the real me is, and right now I honestly don't know.

If anyone has been through something similar, I'd really appreciate hearing your story. There are so many trans girls here, and maybe some of you have felt this way before.

Thanks for reading. ❤️

Discussion I came out to my girlfriend

Heyy girlies💜 I recently came out to my long term cisgender girlfriend. She did not take it well. She said now I’m giving her an ultimatum. “Become a lesbian or leave you” then proceeded to make jokes the rest of the night about me transitioning. She sang a “song” saying “He’s trying to get a vagina” in a joking voice and that kinda hurt. It was the first time (since coming out to myself) I’ve heard “he” and i absolutely hated it. I think I should break up with her. She doesn’t seem supportive of me transitioning.

Edit: I didn’t expect so much support! Thank you sm🥺💜

Advice Question How did you get yourself to stop thinking of yourself as a man?

Hi, just simple as the title. I’m 19 and have been in the process of transitioning for the past 4-5 months since my egg was broken. Being fem presenting has made my life inordinately better. In my head though I still refer to myself as a guy, using he/him & keep thinking “I wish I could be a woman”. It just really hurts because every time I realize I’m doing it, it’s like a kick in the teeth reminder. How do you finally stop thinking of yourself/referring to yourself as a man?

Discussion Do I need to become a bitch / mean girl to stop getting walked over / put down by cis women?

Before I started transitioning, cis women were much more willing to understand my perspective and we could come to an agreement where everyone is satisfied pretty much every time we’d have a hard conversation. Sometimes that was me realizing where I went wrong, sometimes it was them. Sometimes it was not one of us, but someone else who was setting us up.

Now that I’ve been transitioning for awhile, few cis women are willing to have hard conversations, and most of them who are blatantly lie and show contempt for me. I’ve been calm and gentle my whole life but I’m not feeling like that’s helping me, especially during a dangerous time in my life. My trusted family women started using triggers against me anytime I bring something up no matter who or what it is. Of course this is not all women but I am not running into healthy cis women friendships now that I’ve been transitioning. Other trans people have been healthy with me.

After a few test strips, I’ve learned that I won’t get walked over at all if I’m a mean girl. But I don’t want to be a bitch. I want to have the relationships I’ve had pre-transition where we can actually see each other as human.

So, if you managed to stop getting walked over while maintained a kind and loving demeanor, how did you do it?

Relationships Are my friends transphobic ?

Upvotes

Hi, so a few weeks ago i was having a party at my house with my group of friends from before transition (they're all cis and straight), i was quite drunk and started asking them "would you date a trans person ?"

I phrased it badly and had to rephrase it a couple of times with multiple imaginary scenarii and apart from one of my friends who i think said yes, one of them said "no because i want a biological child", the other 3 said no i think... With one of them (the youngest and so i thought the more supportive of queer people) saying no point blank.

I told them it was kinda transphobic and then brush it off and we continued the party as usual

Few days/week later i had a discussion with one of them which is my best friend and also the only other woman of the friend group and i was telling her how it was hard sometimes being trans and that some days i really felt like shit and that that response from the friend group was kinda baffling to me, i really thought better of them, and i was basically telling her that i expected a little more "help" from her cause she's my only female friend.

(i also make it clear that it was not something i wanted her to work on it was not my call to make, i was the one who shouldn't expect too much from them. And also we previously had a discussion where i told her i expected the friend group to at least research a little about trans people to know what is hurtful for some of us)

Anyway fast forward to yesterday and my bestfriend and i crossed path in the supermarket and basically i think she's avoiding me as she thinking i'm avoiding her so an hour later she start texting me asking me if something is wrong, and more on if something is wrong regarding her, i tell her that no i have nothing against her, in fact i thought she had something against me and tell her to come by if she wants us to discuss this, she agrees and a few minutes later she's at my place

And then we spoke alot about a lot of thing she noticed that were giving her the vibe that i was angry at her or something and i explained myself, linking some of these thing to my transition some other just misunderstanding...

And then she tell me "i'm not quite sure, but i spoke to some of thep and i think the whole friend group as been shocked that you called us transphobes, we accepted your coming out and have been supportive of your pronouns and new names, we are trying to be as supportive as possible"

So i told her "i probably went overboard by using the word "transphobes" but even tho yes you're supportive i don't think you are allies if you think like that because it basically mean that you play along and say okay you're a girl but you don't mean it" and yeah in the end i don't even remember what was said, i tried to explain what it felt like but it's complicated..

The thing is i'm here the next day and i'm asking myself : should i be grateful to have loving friend who play along ?

Am i an asshole for wanting more from them ?

Should i cut ropes and be alone again ?

Am i terminally online and reading to much queer discourse so i'm now completely out of touch with basic people ?

I'm quite lost.. sorry for the rambling.. i wrote that as i was thinking i probably lost the plot a few times....

also english is not my first language so i hope you could still read me i have probably made a lot of mistake i'm sorry... I'll re read and correct mistakes later i'm completely drained right now i'm going to shower...

Also moderators if i've done something wrong please tell me, i'm sorry in advance...

Help Chest Development @ 50 days, how to hide

So I’m very fortunate to be getting chest development this early but my major issue is it’s getting hard to hide, like it’s going thru my shirt, is it time for a bra? Or should I just wear baggier clothes? I’m boymoding so I can’t do nothing too obvious.

Advice Question Is laser hair removal the only way to permanently remove body hair?

I just tried shaving with those epilators that remove the hair by the root, and BY GOD THEY HURT SO MUCH 😭😭😭

I managed to do maybe a few inches of my thigh before deciding it was too much pain, and then switched to a regular electric razor blade that left the little black stubbles, which sucks but didn’t hurt.

And even if I somehow managed to use the one that rips out the roots, hair would still come back, just slower, but it would still come back!!!

Is laser really the only way to permanently get rid of it?

Euphoria Small victories

Had a stranger at the store this morning say "Excuse me lady." It's the first time something like this has happened to me since I started HRT(7/21/2025). It really caught me off guard since I was wearing work boots, jeans and my work shirt. I'm still not out at work so I figured I would come here to share this. Such a wonderful and simple moment.

Advice Question convincing my parents to let me go on hrt without ruining my life for it (18yo)

im a month out from going to college and in a very weird spot right now.
i’ve been caught on diy hrt twice now, both times it’s blown over kinda badly + i have a gender dysphoria diagnosis (didn’t make a dent in their thinking tho). both times i was caught i was in deep depression over both being trans + other stuff in my life but im pretty ok now outside of the dysphoria.

i really, really seriously want to go on hrt, but i run the risk of my parents pulling my support from college. i have my tuition paid by scholarships, with some extra left over but my signed lease is extremely expensive for a college student, and having read over the lease, them pulling support will lead to the rent responsibility still landing on me (i know signing this was a mistake but i was goaded/rushed into it by my parents wanting to pay for it). i don’t want to go the route of taking hrt secretly in college since if i get found out, my dad is short tempered, very petty and will see it as some grand challenge to his authority so he will use any means necessary to pull me out of college for it.

so i’ve landed on my only real option for hrt being to come out to them for a third time now, but on my own terms (or try to find my own stability in college but that means likely means waiting another year).
the main issue is that they view keeping me off of hrt as saving me from myself, which they would see pulling me from college as a way to protect me from evil hrt. they’re main beliefs are
1. most trans people are faking being happy
2. hrt is trying to take easy way out of mental issues
3. hrt is another medication that has to be depended on for the rest of my life.

obviously there’s huge holes in each of these arguments but i feel like i can never get to a gotcha moment and want some other perspectives to help me argue deeper than just the surface level responses.
im kind of at the point where i don’t care about their acceptance of my identity i just want to be allowed to take the medication without being pulled from college.
thank you to anybody who read all of this.

Discussion Ppl used to say sorry I thought you where a girl. Now they really dont and not because I pass.

So obviously as the title says ppl used to say "My bad dude i thought you where a girl" or some other version or that at times and now they dont. At some point it stopped and even tho I have been medicly transitioning for about a year and some change with varying methods. I dont pass yet nor do I try to present particularly feminine in public. But now I just get "dude" or a very clear absence or a gendered paired with a slight shocked/surprised face.

To be clear on how I present publicly I cant wear sports bras anymore as they dont do the job of hiding my boba and I wear a binder everyday at im out or at work. No makeup.

Went to a panda the other day I usally frequent but this was the first time i went during the lunch rush. Thought I boy moded hard enough. But as soon as I walk in all I felt was stares. Right before I order the server finishes saying "no problem sir" to the guy in front of me, then when it's my turn he gets a surprised look on his faces and says with a startled tone "huh, how can I help you?" If i walked in front of a man's vision it was a 50% chance he would stare at me so hard I would see their heads turn out of my peripheral vision. It was a full house since there was construction happening on the major road in front of the building. Not a great time.

Then today I pick up culvers because I'm feeling down and wanted some ice-cream and when the guy come up to my car to give me my food he was super chill said "here you go man." As I grab my food and say thank you he looks down at my legs and I see head physically jerk back for a sec.

Im both scenarios Im wearing skinny jeans that have some give(not skin tight). The only pair I own. At panda I had on a t-shirt that used looks a bit big on me now (binder underneath). At culvers I had the trusted black throwover hoodie.

I miss being missgendered correctly. Now I just shock ppl. I would like to skip this part or go back, this shit sucks. Im just curious if this is a normal part of the journey and just looking for a place to rant about this i guess as I cant get my mind of it because it keeps happening.

I would post a Pic of my fit but im to new in this sub to do that I guess as this is my first post here.

Funny Wdym I have to “do it myself”

Upvotes

Effort is lame, I’m meant to be reading while snug as a bug in a rug, not fighting the government. I demand a fully illustrated full color step by step hardcover guide on everything, all materials included. I can’t be expected to think and make decisions in this economy; a penny for my thoughts is not nearly enough. If one of you could be so kind as to beam the girl directly into my cranium I’ll give you the penny.

Relationships I think I’m becoming someone’s girlfriend

After several dates and nights chatting long time, he told me he wanted to be more than friends on our recent date just before we headed out. I told him I felt the same way and out of nowhere, we both kissed before calling it. It was the first time I kissed a guy. All my previous relationships were with women, but this time I feel more excited than ever to have my first relationship in a long time. Most likely because my previous were envy, but also because I feel comfortable of the idea of being the girlfriend. I feel like with him, my interests feel more clear. I’m still awaiting his response since he’s at work, but I think I may finally have a partner after all this time. Oh, and he wants to support my transition as well!
