Lately I have been looking at how Metal Gear went through a bit of a tough time finding its footage in the USA since one game in particular that stuck out to me was called Snake’s Revenge.
I know that Hideo Kojima had nothing to do with the game as I just find the game fascinating for its unusual nature since for starters, trying to use stealth doesn’t always work due to how wonky the stealth mechanics are designed.

The Sega Wondermega HWM-5010 is one of my favourite pieces of early-90s Sega hardware: a 1991 Japan-only deck, built with JVC, that puts a full Mega Drive and a Mega-CD in a single premium unit with a motorised CD lid instead of the usual flip-top or sliding tray.
This is my second one. It came in with leaking capacitors and a CD tray that would only open aided by hand, so it got a full restoration. It is honestly a pig to take apart and put back together, but every one of the five internal boards was recapped (Mega Drive board, video board, laser pickup, CD-ROM/servo board and the sound board), the laser sled and gears were cleaned and greased, and a fresh CD drive belt went in.
The payoff: it powers up fine, both sides work, and with the new belt that signature motorised tray opens and closes on its own again. I tested the cart side with Contra Hard Corps and the Mega-CD side with Silpheed, both looking great on my OLED.
Anyone else running a Wondermega, or one of the other all-in-one Mega Drive + Mega-CD machines like the Multi-Mega? Curious how they have held up for you.

Watching videos of this game takes me back so hard. Major nostalgia for me and I couldn’t remember the name for years and I just figured out what it actually was and found it. I’d love to be able to play it again. Has any of you played this recently or know a way to play it short of finding a copy? Idk if u can even find copies for all I know they could be everywhere and easy to get I haven’t looked into it I’m just excited to finally find it and share it to see if you guys have the same good memories of it as me.

I recently downloaded the BlueMSX emulator and wanted to run it in full-screen mode. I’m not interested in image filters or anything like that—I like the pixelated look—but I don't know how to achieve that in this emulator. I set the emulation and monitor options to "None" and increased the full-screen resolution to 1400x1050 (a higher resolution that maintains the 4:3 aspect ratio), but it still doesn't look the way I want. It seems like there’s some kind of bilinear filtering going on; how do I turn that off? There’s also a black overscan border that I don't know how to remove. I know the Ares emulator isn't the most accurate, but at least it displays the image that way by default.

KKND2: Krossfire like its predecessor Krush, Kill ’n’ Destroy and the expansion KKND Xtreme is a Classic Real‑Time Strategy Game from the 90s. The Series belongs to the Era in which Base Building, Resource Management and Faction Specific Unit Design defined the RTS Genre.
In Terms of Gameplay and Style, KKND2 can be compared to other Strategy Games of the 90s, including Command & Conquer, Dune 2000, Age of Empires, StarCraft, Dark Reign, Warcraft II, Total Annihilation, Z the Game, Earth 2140 and actually D.O.R.F. as well. Despite these Similarities, KKND2 maintains its own Identity through its Post Apocalyptic Setting and three Distinctly different Factions.

I've decided to start a new wave of animations where I animate handheld consoles I missed out on in my last series.
The Game Boy felt like the perfect place to start. I modeled and animated everything from scratch, including the cartridges and UI, while trying to capture the feeling of powering one on back in the day.
I already have more handhelds planned, so this is just the beginning.
I'd love to hear which console you'd like to see next! I was thinking of the game gear hehe

I'm porting over this list from a comment I made as it is more up to date and will be more searchable. Every listed franchise below has a retro video game made before PS1/Saturn or for handhelds before Nintendo DS. I wanted to stick to consoles that are overwhelmingly 2D. I probably missed some things, please let me know if so!
One additional modern obscurity I know of as well, there is a Ghost in the Shell visual novel homebrew for GBC.
There is also a Galaxy Express 999 lost media game build for Sega CD for random info.
Kirby, Fire Emblem, Pokemon, Dragon Quest, SMT, Persona, Tales, Final Fantsay, Star Ocean, Street Fighter, Ace & Attorney, Sonic, Fatal Fury, & Kamen Rider have anime do they count O_o
I have also almost assuredly missed some gen 3 or below titles because the characters are unrecognizable, the anime aesthetic is not at all present at that point, and there is almost no shot of experiencing the game in english assuming any text is present.
This probably covers 99% of those interested.
Edit: Oddly enough, this gets us to exactly 100 intellectual properties with official releases. I didn't plan this.

This past weekend I was pleasantly surprised by the arrival of my SuperStation one (S1) and with it came a whole unexpected afternoon of tinkering and testing that reinforced my love this new wave of retro preservation. I'm sure many of you are familiar with this tech already but for those who aren't FPGAs are versatile boards that can, if programed correctly, emulate hardware of older devices. They have many other uses as well, ie military hardware and even upscalers like the RetroTink 4K.
At the very least, the tech is impressive, but at it's height, it's fucking bananas. If you are like me, which I know many of you on here are, you're taking every precaution you can to ensure your collection of consoles are in their most tip top shape. You've replaced caps when needed, fixing cold/cracked joints when they arise, or, like I did just last year, essentially performed surgery on a genesis to bypass many parts of the board to bring it back to life. We care about retro games, but really many of us want to know that we'll be able to play these games as they were intended even in old age. But the reality is that hardware doesn't last forever. GPUs and Boards die and capacitors leak without knowing, or corrosion spreads on a board without you're knowledge, or at least until you notice too late.
All of that was to bring me to the thick of this conversation... FPGA consoles.
As of now, I've engaged with three types of FPGA manufacturers/brands: RetroRemake's S1, the Analogue 3D, and the FunnyPlaying FP-GBC. All of which are stupid impressive with how accurate they run games, as if they were on actual hardware. There are many many other products and manufacturers. If you wanna go down a rabbit hole, just look into the MiSTer community and get ready to get lost in the content.
I know there are a bunch of people who may see this and say something like, "Wait til they find out about emulation" or "Emulation is free". And yes, I get that, emulation is often fantastic and can be better and more accessible for most, but as someone who emulated for decades, I eventually came back to the original consoles and played as close to their native presentation as I could. I want the scanlines, I want the crunchy graphics, I want the developer's initial intentions to be fulfilled. I want the original experience and I want it to last.
Now, Analogue is likely the most popular of the manufacturers I mentioned, but one thing that urks me a bit with their 3D, though I love it overall, is that it only has an HDMI for display output. As someone who uses a RetroTink and CRT, I really wish that they gave us an option for analogue signals... Analogue doesn't offer analogue =P ... Otherwise, the console is arguably the best way to play original N64 games on a modern display, being able to overclock the system and reduce the infamous framerate drops of the OG console.
The S1 mediates this display issue by allowing component, composite, vga, hdmi signals, all around. It's awesome. It's fucking bananas. I love it so far but what it does better in preserving the original outputs of these consoles, it loses in it's accessibility. That MiSTer project I was talking about is what the S1 is based on, and, for better or worse, the start up and continued usage is not beginner friendly. I'm saying that as someone who uses Arch and other Linux builds and loves the tinkering aspect of these devices. If you wanted to get an S1 for your kid, it might be good for them to mess around and learn on, but it's not gonna be without some headaches.
Regardless of accessibility and the like, I love supporting these projects as they give me hope that when my PS1 dies, and the ebay/craigslist listings start thinning out, these FPGA consoles will be around and available brand new, and I can continue to experience games the way I love them and the way I want to experience them.
How do you all feel about FPGA? Have you gotten into the projects out there or do you have an Analogue or the like? I would love to know your thoughts.

Since I bought a Retroid Mini v2 last year, I've fancied building myself a retro console, as plugging the Mini into the TV and changing the display settings is 3 minutes of faff I can't be bothered with, for purely lazy reasons. So back in January I thought, "I'll buy one of those mini PCs and house it in the carcass of an old PlayStation, and that'll work."
Then I waited a few months more, and then the Rampocalypse came, and I realised I'd dilly-dallied too long, and the cost of a mini PC was no longer reasonable for a stupid-whim-project. But the Retroids are basically just Snapdragon phones...so I thought I'll try building a budget option instead.
I got a Samsung S20 off Ebay for £50 - it had a cracked screen and the camera lenses were smashed, but the phone worked fine. I then got a bundle of 4 broken PlayStations (3 broken PSs and 1 PS1) off ebay for £38.
I disembowelled one of the PlayStations, masked it up, and sprayed it blue (my son's choice - I wanted to do it dark grey, because dark grey is my favourite colour, because I'm boring like that).
Then I housed the phone and an adapter in the case, using lots of cable ties and some sticky pads, plus I put a stick-on heat sink onto the back of the phone for belt-and-braces. You pop the PS lid to start/stop the phone, but other than that it's HDMI, power, and USB controllers all out the back of the PS.
Overall (pro-rating the cost of one PlayStation at £10), the PS, the phone, the adapter, the spray paint, the lacquer, two Xbox 360 USB controllers, and the cable ties and various bits, it came in total to about £140. Obviously the amount of labour I spent on it wasn't quite so cheap...it took a lot of work, and I probably wouldn't do it again if I had known that before I started, but sometimes it's fun to be stupid.
It's running Mega Drive, SNES, GBA, N64, PS1, and PS2.

My dad is giving me his collection of physical PC games since I’ve become a collector of physical media…most of the games I grew up playing on the old family computer.
They all have the CD Keys for each still so I am wondering, are progress/accounts tied to the Keys? For example, Battlefield 2 (one of my favorite) is the account I used to play on it tied to the CD key?
Or how all does that work really
