So I need to desolder my bios chip using hot air but since the chip is really close with these components should I not proceed with that?

Noticed a bigger gap on the left side. There's no crack sound or anything, the laptop opens with one hand and lifts slightly when opening it. My old laptops mostly required 2 hands to open it, so that's why I'm concerned. The gap looks bigger irl than in pictures

Hey guys, I just scrapped together a build with spare parts I had lying around! I used an old laptop hdd to boot off of and when I checked the task manager it said my CPU was consistently at 100 percent utilization despite the system being essentially idle. I was thinking it may be an issue with compatibility between the drive formerly being in a shitty laptop and now using a 5600G. Or I guess my young self could have downloaded a large amount of malware back in my prime. Any thoughts on this situation?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
I have had previous problems with crashing where my pc would start a game (ex: gta v) then crash and I would play it again and after two or three crashes it would work, so I decided to factory reset to see if it would fix the problem then I got the info I wanted onto a flash and clicked yes on all settings and deleted everything and now after its done I keep getting this bug.

I have 3 monitors, one of which is an older Mac monitor with a mini-diplayport cord. I have this set up to my work laptop with a dock that I can plug my mini display port cord into then plug that into the laptop via usbc. I can also then unplug the mini displayport cord and plug it into my main PC via mini diplayport female cord adaptor to diplayport.
Is there any sort of cord or dock that I can use so I don't have to keep unplugging/plugging them in each time? I have looked but cannot seem to find anything that might work.

I turned on my Windows 11 laptop (Lenovo) this night and instead of booting normally, it went straight to a BitLocker recovery screen asking for the recovery key.
The weird part is I didn't change any hardware, update the BIOS, or do anything unusual (at least not that I remember). It was working perfectly yesterday.
I checked my Microsoft account but it says there aren't any recovery keys associated with it. Now I'm kind of stuck because I have a lot of work files on this drive. Has anyone had BitLocker suddenly trigger like this? Is there anything I can safely try before assuming the drive is inaccessible?
Any advice would be appreciated.

I have a crappy old laptop that I love dearly (got it for $200 at Walmart in 2020), and I've upgraded basically all of its guts that are typically considered replaceable (32gb ram, 475gb ssd, all that good stuff), but obviously we eventually come to what all crappy old laptop owners come up against: my GPU and CPU are getting progressively more outdated. Because I have more confidence than common sense, my question is: how possible is it really to replace a premade laptop's processors? To be clear I don't mean to ask if it's "easy" or "cheap", I mean theoretically doable if you had the right skills and tools. And if it is, what would it take?
I feel like I've never seen it get laid out before, just that people who don't have the skills and tools get told it's too expensive/too much of a hassle, and that people who do have the skills and tools would be talking about it on message boards that someone like me wouldn't know about, so I want all the nitty-gritty details about what a nightmare it would be!

Hi there! So I want to pull my fiancées old laptops HDD as we’ve since lost the charger. Here’s my question, I know how to do it as I’ve done it before, but this time it’s not going to be factory reset.
Will I still be able to view the files, or will I need to change a few settings so it recognizes me as the main user of the drive so I can view/edit things? Or can I force a command prompt to unlock it fully since we know the password?
Any help will be welcomed greatly.

Update
Main PC:
Arch Linux + KDE Plasma (Wayland)
Dual Xeon E5-2689 — 16 cores / 32 threads
128GB RAM
Intel Arc B580 (upgraded from GTX 1070)
Removed secondary GPU due to issues
Displays:
32" 1080p centre monitor
24" monitor
3x 22" monitors(one for windows laptop)
Also running:
Ryzen 3700U laptop with 16GB RAM
Galaxy Tab A 2018 tablet
Using Deskflow to share keyboard/mouse between my Linux desktop and Windows laptop. The tablet is mainly used for monitoring, YouTube, and extra screen space.
The only Windows apps I still use are Creality Slicer and FrostWire since they don't work properly on Arch. Everything else I need is done on Linux.
I also use USB/IP and Syncthing across both systems for sharing devices and keeping everything synced.
Still trying to figure out a proper way to use the tablet as a secondary display with keyboard/mouse input.

so I really need to upgrade my computer and I’m looking at MacBooks are the Intel Macs really as bad as people say they are?
My current specs on a refurbished laptop are
8 gigs of ram
intel i5 processor
And that’s really all I know about it and I’m pretty sure the ram is DDR3
By the way, this is for music production.

Hi all, I have a Dell G3 that I bought new as a gaming laptop in 2018. Truth be told I didn’t want to use it specifically as a gaming PC but mainly as something I could play Star Trek Online with, maybe the odd strategy game here and there etc but mainly to use for work (office applications and browser work).
I wanted value for money and in my experience, gaming machines tend to have a better spec and in theory would last me longer before a replacement was needed.
I have upgraded the RAM and replaced the screen hinges over the years but I’m finding this past few weeks that it feels slow and sometimes struggles to keep up.
I’m running windows 11 home.
Intel core i5 (9th gen) 9300H 2.4ghz
12Gb DDR4
NVidia GeForceGTX 1050 DDR5 3GB.
500GB HDD
I’ve wiped it recently and already using 300Gb some how.
Believe it or not I used to be a degree level student who loved building and playing with PCs but that was 20 years ago and times have changed massively. I’m so out of the loop now and I’ve become one of those guys who needs help.
Is my laptop asking for retirement? Can I do anything financially worth while to keep it going or do I go out and get something new?

Hey everyone, thanks in advance for any tips.
I work at a nonprofit animal shelter and I've been tasked with figuring out what antivirus software we should used for our computers. We have a mixture of PCs and Macs, some laptops and some computers. We currently use ESET.
I don't know what we're currently paying. I'd like to present a couple of options to the board for them to ultimately make the decision. It would have to work for both Mac and PC.
Also, is antivirus software still necessary? I feel like I don't hear folks talk about it anymore, mostly just stuff about scammers and whatnot.
Thanks again!

As a person that doesn't not know how to uninstall and re-install computer parts, how can I safely clean my fans without damaging components?

Hi, Im looking for a new laptop since the current one I'm using is basically lobotomized. I'm looking for (preferably) a DELL or something akin to one with at least 32GB of ram and a good bit of storage to play games and do college work on (so I'd need Microsoft Word). I would like to run things like blender/beginners 3d software for college so Im pretty sure I need something with good graphics. I'm not trying to run super big AAA games, but I'd it can run Minecraft and other smaller steam games that'd be good too.
My budget is around 1,000 USD. I was originally looking at a DELL Latitude 7440 14" (2023) Intel 13th Gen, which seemed good at first but heard it had performance issues when running things.
Sorry if this is a lot to ask for help on, I'm just sort of lost in my search so any information or recommendations would be helpful, thank you!

I know I can reset it to factory settings but in case someone wanted to search deeper would they find anything if I only do a basic reset? Is there anything else I could do without damaging the laptop?
Thanks to anyone who answer
