Discussion Guys … I need Unity advice

Upvotes

I walked away from the unity.. since then I finished the UC story line, married Andreja, did the Varrun story and landed on some clone planet. I’m having a good time. A great time even. But a part of me does want to reset the universe and another wants to keep finding temples and doing quests. What’s your preference? I know I’ll lose my ship and my money … that’s the only thing really stopping me. I love my ship lol

Discussion Floating mission markers

Upvotes

This has probably been mentioned before (and might already be addressed for PC), but it would be awesome if Bethesda could add an update to the Interface settings to allow floating mission markers to ONLY be visible with the scanner open. On console you can only choose yes/no for whether you want floating markers.

I think floating markers break immersion, but turning them completely off can also make gameplay too difficult. It’d be a great compromise (and more lore friendly) if I could just toggle between my scanner to see where my next objective is.

Question Alright, y'all, any updates on the Playstation situation?

Upvotes

Hello, friends! I was super excited to play this game once it came to PS5, but then I saw all the warnings from people experiencing game-breaking bugs and such, and decided to pass for the time being. I'm wondering whether things have gotten any better by now. Thank you!

Discussion Outposts need a toggle option to turn off attacks

I have built a lot of outposts over 2,800 hours of gameplay through multiple NG+ universes in both vanilla and with mods and there is very little consistency in how often they are attacked. Sometimes they’re never attacked and at other times the attacks are so constant it ruins my enjoyment of the game. I just built an outpost in a lower level system and added the X-tech extractors. The Terran attack frequency is comically broken. Wave after wave of attacks that always manage to disrupt my X tech production. Tried downloading a mod to stop the attacks but it’s from before the Terran DLC so it doesn’t work, tried stationing a ton of heavily armed NPCs in the area—nothing worked. Will have to abandon the outpost I just spent 10-15 hours building because there is no point. I can’t stay there five minutes without going to war. Complete waste of time. Bethesda needs to add a toggle for outposts. The attacks are not particularly strategic or enjoyable. Many of the defense options are useless. Some people might like them. Great. Give us a choice to turn them off.

Discussion Unable to add chilling effect to my Va' Ruun rifle

I finally gave up trying to add the effect. Between adding, reload, add, reload, for hours. So I went to the end so I could pick the effect I wanted and chilling wasn't listed as an option.

I couldn't find any documentation about restricting the Va' Ruun rifle from the effect.

Could it be the rounds that I'm using?

Question Controller, Game & Steam Keep Crashing?

So I really wanted to play Starfield all night last night, but my stupid game is bugged. It always follows this very specific process:

First, my controller stops working.

Second, my game stops responding and closes.

Third, Steam crashes.

I have found nothing on this bug online, but I have tried a number of things. I have tried a different controller, verifying game integrity, disabling my mods, playing a new save with and without mods, turning off vibration on my controller, disabling Steam Input, restarting my PC. I even booted up Fallout 4 with a few dozen manually imstalled mods, and it ran fine without a single crash.

Can anybody please help me figure out how to fix this stupid game so I can play it?

Discussion Starfield not designed for long term play.

Im on my 5th playthrough because I refuse to ever through the unity, and eventually my game starts crashing all the time after about 3 or 4 months of playing. Apparently after some time, your game save profile bloats so big, that it cannot function anymore, and the only way around it is through a hard reset, and that is by going through the Unity. Which is probably why the Unity exists. Or its because the Unity exists that they allow your game to become a trash dump. This especially happens if you play with mods.

This kind of sucks, if you like to play the game casually. I know some people that dont even play the main quest at all. They just do everything else. The game is fun and relaxing and it sucks that the game accumulates so much permanant object information that it eventually crashes your game.

The game should have a Casual Mode setting that eliminates the need for object permanence. Anything that isnt owned by you gets reset. Why does a dropped gun or a dead body need to remain at a PoI you visited weeks ago and probably will never visit again? The game should be cleaning that shit up. If that same PoI can and will respawn enemies, it should clean the place up.

Question Starfield Mods question

Wouldn't it be possible to have character and grass collision? I noticed vehicles have this feature already, but it breaks immersion when the player does not. As a next gen game this should have already been a feature instead of the grass staying completely still and clipping through the characters legs like a 2003 game. Performance shouldn't be affected also since vehicles already have it also..

Discussion Star Wars gun mod sounds

I just got back into starfield on Xbox after a good break and I came back and downloaded a lot of Star Wars mods including the blaster ones. I was aware before that while vanilla weapons were changed visually, the sounds were still vanilla. I just went to a gang battle on mustafar and the weapons the NPCs had now have the Star Wars blaster sounds. But the weapons I already have equipped are still sounding like their vanilla variant. What changed?

Discussion Turning a Hollow Colossus into a Dreadnought. Thoughts on how to make Starfield a truly systemic game V.2

This "essay", roughtly stitched together from separate notes and ideas, started as a dive into the latest Bethesda RPG entry - to seek glimpses of what Fallout 5 can be.
But along the way I formed some thoughts on how Starfield can became a more internally coherent experience. In my humble opinion, of course.

Turning a Hollow Colossus into a Dreadnought. Thoughts on how to make Starfield a truly systemic game

Starfield is undoubtedly a game of impressive scale. Industrial outposts with production chains, modular shipbuilding, some degree of factional economies, decoratable housing, gear modification, and so on.
All the systems are there, deep and intricate. But they are disconnected from each other – you can interact with every system, or ignore all of them, with the same outcome.

This is why a term “Hollow Colossus” came to mind – a world that feels huge but has no internal system.

I do not want to redesign Starfield – not even to the rumored 2.0 version. I see a way to expand it without breaking what’s working - the game already has all the pieces, you just need an incentive for the player to assemble the puzzle.
The idea is simple in structural terms – introduce a single element that creates demand, and let everything else reorganize around it.
From a single thought (already partially introduced by the modding community) – a buildable Dreadnought-class ship – a “roadmap” for a three-stage expansion cycle was born.

DLC 1. Orbital shipyard.

Introduce a dormant orbital shipyard – unfinished, abandoned (because the war ended before it was finished). Its restoration shoild be a challenge – you need to create reliable inflow of rare materials and connect it to the shipyard – making both cargo links and outpost defence meaningful.

The shipyard also becomes the ultimate base. Gives the player that feeling of ownership. A customizable housing (a penthouse in a spire maybe – literal and figural pinnacle of Starfield’s “NASA-punk” design). Plus, the operating shipyard will introduce a lightweight “management" game loop that generates passive income, freeing the player from the usual Neon Strip vendor run.

DLC II. The Dreadnought

When the shipyard is ready, it unlocks building of a literal Dreadnought. To make the system accessible, players can start with pre-designed variants (by joining one of the major shipbuilders - the existing design schools) or build one from scratch.

To not to break existing mechanics, Dreadnough souldn’t be able to land on planets. Reaching a planet will require a hangar module and a specialized shuttle (or Class A/Class B fighter). Early-game shipbuilding returns as a vialble and necessary element of the endgame.

This also affects space combat. Dreadnought is a mobile base. You can command from the bridge, or assign follower as XO. You can engage into dogfights on smaller ships, and eventually into CQB inside the ship itself. Terran Armada DLC already presented all the mechanics and assets needed.

Damaged Dreadnought has to be repaired – not just by paying 1000 credits at the spaceport, but with delivery of materials and resources, maybe a variety of radiant repair quests.

DLC III. Starborn resoultion

To add narrative weight (and internal logic) to the idea, the player should choose to integrate the Armillary into its reactor, sacrificing the possibility of transitioning to Unity. As a conscious narrative / RP choice to remain in this world.

That makes the Dreadnought a target for other Starborn, locked in this universe by the player’s choice. And attack on the ship is a separate event, incorporating all the gameplay loops player got familiar with earlier. With some cinematic flawour – the dreadnought is overwhelmed, player's fighter is critically damaged and crashes inside the hangar. Fighting continues in the corridors and halls, then on the bridge. And eventualy (in a scripted way) – the defense falls, forcing player and his crew to evacuate.

Then comes the recovery.
First step – a non-companion NPC (or companion left behind) piloting one of the player's old, forgotten ships, saves him/her.
Second step – the player searches the scattered crew, revisiting (reintroducing) characters and locations (ME Citadel DLC effect, but less sentimental).
Third step – the player needs to form an alliance to retake his lost Dreadnaught. Revisiting and summing up all the faction-related choices.
Final step – coordinated cinematic (as far as CE allows) attack on the Starborn-controlled Dreadnought. Scaled up from what we have seen in Terran Armada. With segments with zero-G combat, active usage of Starborn abilities by enemies, and a climactic resolution scene on the bridge.

Aftermath

After our precious Dreadnought is under our control, we have a new evolution stage of the endgame (for the moment) sandbox. The Dreadnought creates a new technological paradigm that reignites political tension.
Future expansions could extend this to Cold War dynamics – “regular” (non-Armillary-driven) dreadnoughts appear in each major political faction Fleet, espionage, sabotage, territory expansion, resources control and trade routes defense.

In my opinion Starfield convincingly simulates reaction on the player-facing micro-level. But it lacks coherent interaction between its systems. And, judging from the Nexusmods stats, it lacks large ship building.

But most importantly, by using elements that are already in the game, Bethesda can “reactivate” all those intricately crafted assets and gameplay loops into one elegant system.

Discussion Help me to find a moon!

I'm looking for a cold, desert and lonely moon to build my first aluminum, iron, and helium mining outpost.

I love Kreet, but it doesn't have aluminum in it. I tried Andraphon, but I honestly don't like it. Any ideas?

Discussion Cannot upgrade anything at all to Legendary Rank 4

I've already searched through the posts here to try to find a solution. I have no mods. sufficient credits and x-tech (only in my inventory).

None of any type of spacesuit or weapon is available to be upgraded. The "INSTALL" button will not illuminate, but I can upgrade/change any Legendary Rank 1, 2, or 3 for everything else. Just entirely locked out of Legendary Rank 4.

Has anyone experienced this before or have any ideas?

edit: I sold a ton of survey data to Vlad, raising my available credits from 170k to 250k and the problem seems to have randomly resolved itself, even though Legendary rank 4 only shows as costing 100k credits. Not sure what exactly the issue is but glad it's worked out

edit 2: okay just did a Legendary Rank 4 update and it ended up costing significantly more than it said it was going to so the issue must have been that the listed price is just incorrect, and I previously (and unknowingly) didn't have enough credits

Discussion Help w/a Weird Bug

So, I built a ship last night (super happy with it) and placed a weapon workshop table thingy in it, as one is wont to do, and I snuggled it up to the wall jusssst right (or so I thought) and put a spacesuit workshop table thingy next to it, also snuggled to perfection.

After admiring my handiwork for the appropriate amount of time, I discovered when I try interact with the weapon table it gives me an error stating it is already in use - despite there not being any NPCs around it nor using it. ‘No problemo, I’ll just go into build mode and move it or delete it,” I think to myself…only, lo and behold, I can do neither.

I tried moving the other table, and that works just fine. But replacing or deleting the spacesuit table (so it’s not so snuggly) does nothing to fix the bugged weapon table. I tried reloading. I tried modifying my ship and then canceling the changes and then reloading. No dice.

Has anyone encountered this—and if so, is there a way to fix it short of deleting my otherwise perfectly designed hab?

tl;dr: my weapon modification table cannot be moved or deleted in build mode and cannot be interacted with. help.

Discussion Mod / creation discussion : Xenomorph mod ! What u think?

Imagine:

L.I.S.T. colonists would encounter Xeno's on a planet or on several planets in a system very far to the east or south of the galaxy map.

They'd all die, but able to activate some kinda beacon - a warning beacon.

Sounds familiar? Kind of like in the 1st Alien movie.

Xeno's could be spread through LIST people, traders, explorers.

All factions could be forced to work together to defeat his plague, this invasion - even House Va'ruun would comply and maybe even the Crimson Fleet.

Enemy of your enemy, you know...

The propabilities !

A continuation creation or mod could be like : Predators then also come to this galaxy because they've heard about this Xenomporh outbreak and they think it might be a nice place to go hunting, which of course would escalate into our galaxy vs Predators.

And: We already got Xenomorph + Predator mods for Skyrim and Fallout 4, so... just sayin'.

Of course not everyone likes and wants real aliens, especially Xeno's in their game, but guess what : Then just don't install that mod, right? :)

Question Tracker’s Alliance Issues?

Anyone having issues with the Tracker’s Alliance main quest board? Last time I tried to select the Mantis bounty it disappeared from the board without starting the mission. Tried a new game, and I’m still having that problem, and now the Lovers won’t show up either. Anyone have this issue or know a fix?

I chose the Zosma IV-b - Reclusive Player Home for it's completely remote location, beautiful interiors and open space concepts, incredible views and environment, and it feels exactly like the type of location a Starborn would chose.

It's an incredibly well made Creation 👌🏾💯

Question Death loop as new player

So, new to game. Landed on a planet to meet the Tracker people and bumped into the Marshall of Akila city. The bank was being held up and I went in to clear out the gang. I killed the gang but may have also accidently killed a hostage. Now, when I leave the building all the security are shooting at me. I manage to get to my ship and into space but get intercepted by their ship and die. Literally can't get out of the system. What am I supposed to do?
