I have a 2016 f250 and have been running Rotella t6 15w40 for the past 2 oil changes. I change the oil every 5k and was possibly thinking of switching to 5w40 for better mileage. I live on the coast of NC and dont see temps get below 25 degrees if it gets that low during one or two mornings of the winter. wanted to hear everyone's thoughts on if I should stay with 15w40 or change to 5w40 for my next change. TIA

Looking at this truck in Texas and obviously concerned with the CP4 pump being an issue down the line and can do the DCR kit if I ended up buying the truck. I’m not as familiar with Powerstrokes.. does this truck already have the conversion done from this photo?

So I've got a bit of a weird thing happening with my rig that I haven't seen before, and was wondering if anyone could offer advice/confirm my hypothesis.

So I drive a '22 Pete 389 for work, and it has an X15 Cummins in it clocking just over 530k right now. Haven't been in the truck long, but it's never given me an issue outside of the coolant temp sensor dying. But this week it started doing something odd. Twice now it's been running fine, usually close to idle, and it will just lug down and stall, heavy smoke out the stacks like it's over fueling.

Here's the odd thing though, it only does it very close to first start up for the day, and after a key cycle it runs fine. It did it to me Monday morning, but then I drove the truck the entire day without issue, didn't do it at all Tuesday, but then did it again this morning. The fact that it lugs down hard and smokes makes it seem like something is blocking the air intake, but the fact a key cycle or two fixes the problem and then it runs fine, to me, says that isn't it. So I'm wondering if something is starting to die in the VGT that's causing it to basically clamp shut and choke the engine out. Any advice anyone here might have would be much appreciated before I go and throw a new turbo at the problem.

I’m looking to buy a 96 ford f250 with 160,000 miles 7.3 diesel the guy is the second owner and did major service last year water pump etc. He has maintenance records since he got it in 2009. It’s a long bed and it’s not a 4x4. It’s in pretty good shape everything works the only thing that it needs is a paint job on the right side of the truck. He wants 5k firm this will be my first diesel any thoughts ?

I am looking for a low hours QSK60 G4 engine for building into a 2250 LVA standby generator. Any ideas on the where I can source these and the typical cost?

Hitachi ex30-02 digger/escavator. The engine is a kubota make and the model, from what I can gather, is the Kubota V1505-KA.

I believe I overheated it and not sure for how long as the temp gauge doesn't work and now refuses to start, could someone please help me diagnose the issue? I am so sad, bought it for a gardening project, overpaid for it as I didn't know a thing about diggers and had issues with it (mainly electrics) but this one seems beyond my knowledge and I am hopeless!!

It cranks, slower than usual (I believe) but doesn't turn on.

Overheating was caused by low coolant level I believe, the overflow bottle cap popped off and steam came out, as soon as I noticed it I turned the digger off.

Hey, looking at buying a used LML.
It’s a 2014 Chevy 2500 2WD with 150k miles, looks to be a previous oilfield truck but it’s got very good service history all at the same dealership throughout the whole carfax.
Had a mechanic look at it, the codes were cleared by buy here pay here dealer before arrival, and when idling code showed back up. Needs 1 injector replaced for too high output.
Zero blow-by, fuel regulator was able to reach 30k, coolant and oil looked fine, turbo performed well. It was test driven for 5-10 minutes, not very long, should’ve told him to drive it longer.
Truck is out of state, and I plan to be towing a lot with it. Any minor or major risks I’m overlooking here? Wanna hear it all anything helps, thanks. 🙏

Also, if I do end up making the trip I’ll definitely be driving it for much longer likely 20-30 mins before finalizing, and won’t be needing the 4x4 capability.

for context I install upgraded exhaust systems and tunes, have done quite a few now and looking to find more clients as I like the work. Leary of advertisement for obvious reasons, so far all word of mouth.

I have even gone to the level of fixing trucks with poor delete jobs that did not calibrate correctly.

My older attachment drive is starting to creep and lose low end tracking power on heavy loads. It runs the white 530 series RC 470 motor. Pulled the case drain line and I'm seeing way too much bypass flow. I’m looking at the aftermarket replacement from fab heavy parts because I can't justify the OEM lead time right now. Anyone here run these specific units on their attachments? Just want to make sure it can handle high pressure cycles without blowing the shaft seal out in the first month.

I got a 2003 ram 3500 w/ 5.9 24v

For who knows how long at this point, the truck will give me this hissing noise when accelerating that goes away if I let off. My speed doesn't affect the noise, just RPM

I put together a fernco pipe fitting and cap w/ a air chuck, stuck it on my turbo and ran some air through it, and didnt hear anything. Could obviously hear the air going through the system, but it sounds nothing like what I hear on the road.

From what I read, it could possibly be a manifold leak, but from looking that up specifically, it seems like it should resemble more of a ticking noise than hissing.

Im not super experienced in working on these, and really cars in general but im more or less willing to give anything a shot. Im more used to swinging a hammer

Towing a 9,500 lbs toy hauler wet. Won’t be a daily, but used on the weekends and when needed. Uncle (through marriage) drives a 6.0 and came from a 7.3. Said he hated towing with the 7.3 because it would only do 30mph going up hills. Trying to convince me to get a 6.0, but I’ve been looking at some 7.3s. Where we camp it’s pretty hilly

This is an OUTRAGEOUS price hike in One Fell Swoop! I've been using Rotella T6 exclusively for over 14 years now and this is the biggest price hike I've seen in all that time. Is it just me or do I have a right to feel like Shell is taking advantage of us? Just for comparison, the price for Mobil Delvac Full Synthetic 15W-40 Extreme HD Diesel Oil is $62.00 for the 2.5 Gallon size. I can afford to pay this New "Improved" price for Rotella T6, but I really feel Shell has seriously overplayed their hand this time. I have 2 more oil changes worth of Shell T6 set aside, but after that, unless the prices come down, I think I'm done with them ON PRINCIPLE. To jack up their prices that much is UNPRECEDENTED. It's insulting, actually. They may be good but they aren't THAT good!

Hi there! I purchased a 2024 Chevy Silverado 1500 with the 3.0 LZ0 Duramax. I plan on pulling my travel trailer (10,100 wet) a couple hundred miles at a time, and otherwise use it as a weekend camper with a camper shell (not a slide-in camper) and a daily in the mean time (because 27mpg is fantastic).

I plan on keeping this vehicle for at least the next 6 years, if not longer. What advice do you have for a new diesel owner looking to keep their engine in the best shape possible?

I’d like to build an off-road/camping/hunting rig out of something like a 7.3 IDI or powerstroke. I’d be out in the cold and know these aren’t exactly the most friendly to cold weather starts.

I’d be doing necessary maintenance and mods (injectors, reduction starter, glow plug system, batteries) but still want to be confident I don’t wake up to head out and magically get stuck in the woods with no way of getting home.

Can these block heaters be run off of an inverter generator? If I put an in-bed camper in then I’d run a generator regardless. I’ve got a pretty nice champion 2000 watt inverter generator that starts easy in the cold

I’ve peen putting off getting a diesel for a while now even though it would be helpful every time I pull the trailer.

I use a 2500 gasser right now but going up to the mountains pulling the 13k enclosed trailer, 12k-ish camper and a 16k tractor from the valley at 4800’ elevation to just over 6700’ elevation to my uncles cabin we use regularly an hour away a diesel would be ideal. We do that trip every other weekend. All year round. Pulling rzrs to boats to snowmobiles…. All the other days it would be my commuter 26 miles each way to and from work daily. That trip has 18miles on the highway (70mph) and its total just over 50miles each day for work. That distance should let it regen and get hot but I’m not sure?

My dad’s 3500 LML Duramax pulls those things without breaking a sweat. Mine doesn’t… and I don’t have an engine brake either which would be nice.

My dads is deleted and he’s never had any issues with his truck BUT everyone on forms, and other pages where the the debate is at people say not to get a diesel due to the “expensive” repairs that come with diesels vs gas.

How often are diesels needing repairs and expensive maintenance compared to gassers?

That’s what’s holding me back. People make it sound like the diesel will be in the shop literally 50% of its life before it’s not if it’s when it breaks down and then other problems follow. But how often is that?

If I put good fuel in it? Regular oil changes and fuel filter changes, what other maintenance is needed regularly? And what is the reality of the truck being in the shop costing ~$3-8 grand for repairs regularly??

Only time my dad’s been in the shop for non maintenance is for the delete but I’m going to keep mine stock if I get one.

Have a mucky coolant resovour, just was checking all my fluids yesterday and noticed my coolant resovour is Brown and frothly. My oil looked normal, my trans fluid looked normal. but the coolant is real bad.

The truck has no blow by, and the upper radiator hose doesnt get hard. And I have not overheated or had any engine lights or anything, so it doesnt seem like a headgasket, or trans cooler.

Right now Im hoping or assuming that it is coolants that mixed and shouldnt have? I just had a Coolant issue repaired, Rear secondary coolant line I believe. So they added coolant and I also added gms Dexcool, so maybe different coolants mixed and jelled up? I also had a oil cooler replaced like 5 months ago just for more information. Thanks in advanced.

Hey folks, wanting input on something. I’m a heavy equipment mechanic but I’ve driven gassers my whole life. I have an opportunity to purchase a 1994 7.3 Idi with roughly 300k on the dash. What are your thoughts? I do a little bit of towing for personal and work but not much and I drive about 30-45 minutes a day to get to work. Would the 7.3 be a good purchase or do you think I’d be kicking my self in the ass purchasing it? Thanks in advance
