Some of my troops have recently acquired foreign ribbons and badges ( the norwegian sharpshooters badge and the Danish flyver ribbon to be particular). And im trying to get guidance on whether or not they can wear them.

36-2903 states that only aviation, medical, and parachutists badges can be worn. But ive seen numerous people on base and within my own unit that have approval to wear the GAFPB and the Schützenschnur. How do those badges fall into the above 3 criteria and the norwegian sharpshooters badge allegedly doesnt?

Attachment 11 in 36-2806 lists all authorised foreign awards, but that hasn't been reviewed since 16 dec 2014. How is a page that hasn't been updated in 12 years reliable?

If anyone has some guidance or could point me in the right direction id greatly appreciated it.

My daughter told me this tonight. She's been on AD orders for since she left for basic. She completed Tech School and MEST and has been back at her guard base still on orders doing extra training. Her orders end early August.

She is being told that she has to make up 18 days before October 1 so she can have a good year. Only "missed" those days because she has been on orders that she was put on. How can she have a bad year when shes been on active duty orders this whole time?

The part that makes it tough is she starts college in middle of August. So she has to make up 18 days before Oct 1, when she starts college and will have classes everyday.

Can someone help me understand??

Hello! A little bit of background. I was prior active duty Navy as a jet mechanic. Switched to guard 2 years, already went to tech school, just got promoted SrA recently (long story). My shop is basically starting from 0 right now. NCOIC and I are trying to build it back up. We're both DSGs. The only experience I have with radios is tech school, and the only ever radio shop I've known is the one I'm currently in right now, and it's kind of a mess. My question is, if we were to build a radio shop from almost nothing, where should we start?

I have a troop that has been in UGT for almost 3 years, the circumstances when they joined wee pretty hectic and I wasn't the WCS at the time, so I missed their period on MEST and CDCs. They only have a few more tasks until they're eligible for 5 level, but I have to justify to the commander why we should keep an individual who's taking so long to upgrade. The biggest issue is that money is incredibly tight so getting good training days outside of AT is nigh impossible for my career field (because they don't want to pay BAH I'm assuming). I'm maintenance and I see other shops being able to work getting months of days for people that don't neccessarily need it, but I'm always getting turned away when I push for longer term days for my troop who clearly needs it. Are there any tricks of the trade to securing ST days or MPA days? Thanks for any input.

My contract is up in about 2 months and I wanna go into the Air Force Reserves. Is it easier to just get out and join the Reserves or extend for like a year in the ANG and just put my transfer paperwork in after my extension goes through? Seems like getting out would be less paperwork in that I wouldn't have a loosing unit, but also more "risky" in that if something falls through with the Reserve recruiter Im screwed. Anybody have any experience with this?

I'm relatively new to Guard and T32 seems to be a very broad form of orders compared to T10. My question is what am I looking for on orders to determine eligibility for the Armed Forces Reserve Medal? The Army folks where I'm at are saying a "M" device should come with these orders, but I've also been told their orders are written differently. They use the word "mobilization" a lot, so that's what makes me curious.

37 Prior Service ANG / getting back in. Found out there’s maybe still an opportunity for UPT??

I will be 37 in about a week. I am prior service Air National Guard. Enlisted E-6. Had been a Geo-Spatial Intelligence analyst. And had actually been full-time on title 10 orders for a good part of my almost 10 years. Got out in 2021 only because of the Covid vaccine.

I have 3 degrees. And one of which is a bachelors. None aviation related. That said, prior to getting out I was preparing to put in my packet to commission and of course was going to try for pilot somewhere! I had always heard that a big portion of it is how well you do on the Pilot / NAV sections.

So let’s talk about the here and now. As far as I know, I should be in qualifying health. But of course, I know through the pilot process they can find things that you never knew you had. I actually meet with a recruiter at my old base to talk about getting back in as an officer tomorrow. But my base is not a fighter wing or bomber wing. That really don’t matter to me because I would go anywhere!

Here is the big big question. After being disillusioned with being a businessman the last few years since I had got out of the Air Force. And I absolutely loved the Air Nation Guard. Used to be an F-16 fighter wing a few years before I got in in 2012. So a lot of the leadership at the time when I was there was still from the fighter culture. And I just melted with love. Intel not so much. But the Air Force as a whole… And what my base used to be. I’m a very sentimental person. It would bring a tear to my eye. I know tomorrow literally — driving on that base for the first time since 2021. I will get emotional and will be crying. That is my feelings towards the Air Force in the Air National Guard. Please send me the basic training again!!!! The best kept secret in the military — ANG. I’ve now decided to liquidate sell everything and get back in. I was going to pursue med school or possibly law school. But those are only secondary to my desire to become a pilot!

This past fall I had an opportunity to start getting into flying with a local cropdusting service, but I had to work for them full-time at $18 an hour and they would train me to fly. Well, since I was still in business at the time, honestly, I could not afford to work for $18 an hour when I run excavating and trucking business therefore. I did not take that opportunity. But before realizing that, I had already purchased the career pilot program from King Flying schools!!

That said, at this very moment based upon answers I get— I am 100% willing to turn my life completely around in regards to liquidating my business in the next few months. And focusing fully on going through the Kings School so I can do very good on the pilot and nav section. Spending all my time practicing for the AFOQT. Anything it takes to become a pilot in the Air Force!!

So I guess the question is this? Based upon this link I’m posting below I had seen people said that the guard and reserve are still giving waivers up into the later 30s? Like maybe even 40 tops?? IS THAT TRUE? I thought like 34 was the absolute cut off with a waiver?

I’m turning 37 here in a week. Still being in very great health as far as I know. Better than 20/20 vision. I actually just had a full physical for the VA here a week ago. All is well. Praise the Lord! And if I get back in the regard, I will obviously be going to MEPS again. But but but! If a pilot is an opportunity still on the table!? That is the answer I need to know, if it is, would it be a mistake to get back in now enlisted and then put in an Officer Packet later? I would not want to get myself committed to having to go to tech school because that would be time away from the main focus. Because I absolutely will not go back into Intel.. HAVE I AGED OUT OR NOT? If not? What would be the best protocol going forward to absolutely make the next year or two to manipulate that time to the best of my ability for my benefit?

I feel like I am going a little crazy, but did anyone else notice the changes to ANG in the 36-2905?

Specifically, now if you fail, it's three month retest, that part is pretty clear.

The part I am unclear about, before it was 4 fails in 36 months for ANG, but now it looks like 4 fails in 24 months for everyone full force? Is that right?

Hello everyone I have a question for anyone that might have went through this in their career. Background for me: close to 10 years TAFMS and Sat service between AD and now AGR.

It's rumored that ANG Wings with MQ-9's might lose its mission and convert to another airframe. I am AGR and my job is tied specifically to that airframe. If the current airframe goes away and they bring in a new one that doesn't need my AFSC anymore, what happens if you're like me and in an initial tour? Mine is 4 years before I get to career status. However, right when my AGR tour ends (start of FY29) is when the rumor of this airframe potentially going away.

Is it a cause for concern that I might not be renewed because of that? I would be at 12 TAFMS/Sat svc by this time and it's all I have known. I had planned to get an AD retirement but now I'm quite concerned. Any advice is helpful. TIA!

I'm looking for some advice from current or former Air Guard pilots.

I'm 25 years old and currently enlisted in the Air National Guard. I work full-time in a substation technician apprenticeship and plan to stay in that career while I build a competitive pilot application. My ultimate goal is to earn an Air Guard pilot slot and, eventually, fly for the airlines.

I'm trying to decide on the best path for my bachelor's degree. My original plan was WGU because I could finish it much faster while working full-time, but I'm concerned that WGU's competency-based transcript (instead of a traditional GPA) might put me at a disadvantage compared to applicants from schools with a 3.8–4.0 GPA.

My questions are:

1. If you were in my shoes, would you choose WGU for speed or a traditional university with a GPA?

2. How much weight did your unit actually place on college GPA?

3. If you could do it over again, what degree and school would you choose?

What should I prioritize over the next 2–3 years to make myself as competitive as possible for a pilot slot?

I know AFOQT/TBAS scores, PCSM, flight hours, networking, and interviewing all matter too. I'm just trying to make the smartest decision now while I still have time.

I'd really appreciate any advice or lessons learned from those who have been through the process.

I am currently title 5 with a type 1 diabetic spouse. Does anyone have experience with TRS and T1D? I am considering leaving title 5 and going back to DSG, just curious how well supplies are covered by TRS.

I’ve had an accelerated promotion packet sitting with them for almost 6 months now with no word back. I’m trying to cross train AFSC’s into the AFR but can’t until my promotion order gets fixed and 6 months seems like a crazy amount of time to be sitting on paperwork. My FSS has been pinging them monthly and they just keep getting told there’s no change.

Currently deployed. Went "overdue" on pt last month. No fac here to do tests, I know I am good per afi. However, a stripe has trickled down back home. Am I promotable?

Short story... the board just released the CY25 O5/O4 list and my name aint on it.

Long story... I'm a captain in the Air Guard with 17 good years. SOS complete. 3 deployments. 1 poor OPR from 2022 for a mistake I made, but no paperwork/punishment beyond that, at least to my knowledge. informal punishment essentially came down to my squadron not putting me up for promotion till I put some time between that mistake and poor OPR. When they did have me board for promotion I jumped through all the hoops but shortly after the board they told me I was now on the ROPMA list and there was nothing the squadron could do to promote me now. Went through the first ROPMA board, didn't get selected, requested feedback from my squadron and was told the boards don't provide feedback, but they were sure I would get it on the next board. And now you're caught up... second board also passed me over and now I'm doing all I can to make sure I can continue serving.

My mandatory separation date will be JAN28 thanks to being twice passed over (1 month short of 18yrs for sanctuary). I know SELCON would be the easiest route, but I'm not convinced that I had a fair shake in the ROPMA board. My life has essentially revolved on flying for my squadron and hacking the mission over the last 6 years. I've volunteered for every deployment and surge within that timeframe and had clean OPRs since the poor OPR from 2022.

Any general advice is appreciated, especially on...

1. If I go the SELCON route (which my squadron has already requested) and I end up inside of 18yrs, does sanctuary automatically apply or do I need to continue getting SELCON?
2. Within the SELCON can I still meet promotion boards? If so, would they be ROPMA boards?
3. Has anyone had success challenging a ROPMA board? I do know that there are 2 decorations
