I keep seeing that people have been in the DEP for 4 months+ and I’m really really hoping that won’t be the case for myself. I have had my family care plan sent back THREE TIMES for different reasons each time. My husband is active duty (in for 10 yrs), I want to go active duty, I’m 26 F with 3 kids so I need a waiver for having kids. Leadership keeps finding reasons to push it back and it’s so frustrating. I haven’t gotten a physical or medical evaluation, only my ASVAB and I got an 86. No job list, nothing. Anyway, once I finally get the go ahead, I’m assuming or at least hoping things will pick up after. I’m not wanting to do medical, I’m more so hoping for Finance, personnel, or logistics but I have to put 10 jobs down.
All that backstory to ask… how long were you in the DEP and what jobs were you trying to get/how many did you put down?

I’m heading to Air Force BMT and don’t really have family or anyone to store my belongings while I’m away. Because of that, I need to bring a carry-on suitcase and a backpack with me.
Will that be a problem at BMT? Also, what do trainees who don’t have family or support back home usually do with their extra belongings?

Hi everyone! I just got my results from my ASVAB. Should I go (2W1X1) Aircraft Armaments or push for Aviation Resource Management (1C0X2)? Any insight would be fantastic. And for additional info I plan on doing 4 years and would like to do some schooling to get out with something valuable.

Hi, I'm a 33-year-old guy, diagnosed with OCD/anxiety at 16 or so. Got put on Prozac back then, which I took intermittently through most of my 20s (I would go weeks/months without actually taking the meds), but didn't go to therapy during college and grad school. After grad school I started therapy (2018) and switched to Luvox, which I was on for a few years until I tapered off for a year during Covid. Then back on Luvox and now on Prozac and finally since February have been working with a therapist who actually specializes in OCD. I believe the age limit to join is 42nd birthday?

Basically, I'm trying to hypothetically map out how I could join if I were to get off my meds in the next year or few, demonstrate ~3 years of no meds or therapy. I hope this would be feasible but idk. I've wanted to join since I was a kid, just figured due to a childhood asthma diagnosis (which has since gotten much better) that I'd never be able to. Now in my 30s finding out maybe there's a chance, if I am able to go several years without asthma or OCD meds/therapy? Multiple family members have been in the military, including my favorite grandpa who died when I was only 4 (was in the Army Air Corps). As a kid, my dad took me to air shows at MacDill for my birthday for years, growing up. I had toys and models of the planes, memorized them, etc. Literally the whole reason I'm not in, is bc the asthma diagnosis at age 10 devastated me and set me onto a totally different career path (which unfortunately didn't work out in the end, despite many years of effort). And then OCD in high school obviously compounded things. I'm now realizing that I still want to do this, and I'd appreciate any thoughts or advice. Obviously even if I ever got in, no chance of being a fighter pilot like the original dream (I need glasses anyways, so I accept that that ship has sailed), but at this point I’d just like to be in the institution, period. Hello all, I am 24 with a bachelors in STEM, looking to join the Air Force but the only problem for me is that I have vasovagal syncope and I can’t even see or look at needles, vaccines shot, blood draws etc. but i know this is mandatory for the medical process and that’s literally the only thing stopping me. Just thinking about it now as I type this is making me woozy. Spoken multiple times with recruiters at 18 then again in college but I just can’t get over it, the fear of a blood draw is bigger than anything else. Plus I also hear it’s not just a one time thing but that you have to continually get blood exams.

I know I’m a big bitch about it but just wanted to see if there was anybody else with this condition that was able to overcome it and get through it? Or am I simply just not suitable for any military branch due to this, since I can’t even get over a simple fear? I would hate to waste everyones time if im simply just not cut out for it. Just looking for some advice. I know recruiters lie and will say everything will be okay but I’d rather know If I’m not cut out for it I’d love that reality check that way I can delete this from my memory and stop trying to join every few years, cause it ends up stopping me due to blood test.

I took my ASVAB and got my job list back last week. I have exactly $4,593 in collections, and $2,852 of that is medical debt from an emergency gallbladder removal surgery a few years ago. The rest is from 2 credit cards ($480 and $1,200) that I fell behind on after unexpectedly losing my job. My recruiter called today and said I’ll need a financial waiver. I’ve already set up payment plans for all of the collections and plan to stay current on them. I’m hoping to get something like Nondestructive Inspections or HVAC. Does anyone know if needing a financial waiver could affect my ability to get one of those jobs? If everything is being paid through a payment plan, is there a good chance my waiver will be approved? Has anyone been in a similar situation? I’m pretty nervous about it and just trying to figure out what to expect. Any advice or personal experiences would be appreciated!

I’m currently working to lose about 20 more pounds so I can go to meps. Since I have a few months to wait plus time to wait on waivers once I actually go I want to nail down preparing myself for the PT tests in BMT. Are there any recommend workouts and certain exercises to do that would help?

Right now I’m just doing general strength training and working on my running because I’ve never run in my life before deciding I wanted to join. Any tips or advice will helps tons TIA

Just talked to a recruiter and found out I can’t qualify for top secret due to a debt that went to collections. My main thing was wanted a cyber job so I was wondering if there’s any left at this point and later on would it be possible to qualify for it and either switch over if i’m in or to join then.

Hey yall, I’m leaving to basic in 18 days. I was told we have something that helps military members called SCRA to lower APR’s on credit cards and other things. Can I request to do that before I leave for basic? I have heard mixed answers and wanted to ask on here to see if anyone has done it before ? What do they ask for when applying for Scra? Thanks in advance this group has been a lot of help.

Everyone always talks down on maintenance jobs but I never understood it is the goal of joining military not to get a job that translates to the civilian world and what better way of looking qualified is to say you worked on top military aircraft?

So, I am currently 19 years old coming off my sophomore year of college. I want to join the Air Force but I feel I have started late as I am still within the trying to pass ASVAB process but school starts next month in which I want to work toward while in the Air Force and I don’t know when I will be shipped. Would I be wasting a semester if I don’t join by the time school is starting? How would my timeline look?

Got put on an SSRI for anxiety about 3 years ago for being severely overwhelmed during a graduate program that was not a good fit for me (among other political reasons). The medication didn’t help much but I continued out of spite of hoping it would, then got diagnosed with ADHD a year ago. Much if not all symptoms are a product of my ADHD and not true anxiety. I have since been able to learn more about how my brain works and build better systems for myself. I have never received any accommodations, graduated hs as valedictorian with a 4.1, graduated with a bachelor of science (stem major) from a top university with a 3.8, and will be graduating with a masters with a 3.98 soon. I have held internships and lab research positions throughout my bachelors, and also received multiple scholarships.

The only time I have been on anxiety or adhd medication was during my graduate program in the last 3 years to about a month ago. Is this past performance enough to show that I can perform and function normally prior to being medicated? I hate that I was talked into starting these medications in the first place and that it may cause a 3 year delay in my future plans.
