Serious Gonzo deal

Yes, Gonzo and Witherspoon have the same agent, and he's probably trying to roll both teams - both deals will probably be for record terms, in order.

Why don't we just suck it up and pay the man? If Witherspoon gets his deal done first, then we pay even more. If we do it now, then we make the Seahawks have to pay through the nose.

We're not going to create the ill will and make him play through the season on his rookie deal.
Can anyone explain if there is a single reason why we don't just pay the man now?

Casual Going to the Munich game?

I'm based near Barcelona there days and am thinking about going to this game...I'm struggling to get friends onboard to come too. (Guess they either hate me or the Pats lol) So might just go myself. For those going, how did you get tickets, are you going as part of a tour or fan group or just making your own way there? Anyone else going solo?

Casual Patriots Need to Upgrade at Edge. This is My Short List of Options

Rookies reported to training camp today and there was still absolutely no sign of Gabe Jacas. Patriots OLB coach Mike Smith already said that simply missing mandatory minicamp has made Jacas fall behind. It's hard to see how missing the rookie portion of training camp won't have Jacas even further behind. As Jacas' arrival continues to be delayed, the worry has to continue to grow that he won't be be much of an impact for the team for most of the year. This is a brutal blow to arguably the Patriots' weakest position group.

Despite the draft pick being a bit of a disaster so far; there are plenty of pivot options the Patriots can make to try to salvage the lack of depth and talent at edge.

1. Sign Jadeveon Clowney

This is, in my opinion, the most obvious choice. Despite being 33 years old, Clowney made a great impact in Dallas last year in the abscence of Micah Parsons. He logged 8.5 sacks and 10 QB hits, while also recording 12 tackles. He also had 29 hurries and 40 total pressures. All of that was achieved in only 13 games.

Signing Clowney would give the Patriots an instant upgrade at edge while solidifying their depth. Clowney is an experienced veteran who has played across multiple defensive schemes and could be a good option to start while Jacas adjusts to playing in the NFL and learning the scheme.

He is the only FA that I believe is worth signing, though honorable mentions that would be good depth are Leonard Floyd and Haason Reddick. Beyond those guys, we move into the much mor murky land of hypothetical trades, which leads me to-

2. Myles Murphy

This one is probably a bit of a long shot, but the Bengals declined his fifth year option. While that doesn't necessarily mean they wan to ship him off, it does leave the door open for this notoriously cheap franchise to cash in on a little bit of value instead of having to dish out the dough for a player that may not be as productive as they hope. However, trading him would be controversial as the Bengals defense was famously bad last season and they need all the help they can get.

Myles Murphy is 24 y/o and took a pretty significant leap in production last year. He accrued 6 sacks and 41 total pressures. This is definitely more of a developmental player, and while the upside is high, he may never deliver. This could be a good opportunity for the Patriots to bolster their depth through a trade while raising their potential ceiling for edge talent. The question that is really hard to answer is what would he cost?

3. Patrick Jones II

Another potential trade candidate. Veteran Panthers OLB Patrick Jones II is on the last year of a two year contract with Carolina. Unfortunately, his season ended much earlier than expected when he suffered a back injury that required season ending injury. There were a lot of reports, however, that he was making a push to come back for the playoffs, so it seems he should be fully healthy to return for the start of the 2026 season.

Where this gets interesting, though, is the Panthers' big offseason move to sign Jaelen Phillips in free agency. This leaves their edge room quite crowded as they also have two second round players in Nic Scourton and Princely Umanmielen, as well as DJ Wonnum who is also there.

Pat Jones II is the odd man out and there is already a lot of buzz around him being outright cut. Could the Patriots skirt free agency and aqcuire him on a cheap trade?

Pat Jones II was seen as a breakout player in MN before his injured season last year. In his final year he logged 7 sacks. At 6'4 260 he is an absolute beast. Power is his game, able to squat 675.

Final Thoughts

I think the Pats did a great job in FA improving the secondary, but the best secondary in the world won't make a difference if the QB can stand back there for 7 seconds before throwing. Patriots absolutely NEED at least one more body at edge and the sooner the better.

Clowney would be good as a one year deal bandaid, but I think a trade gives the Patriots more flexibility to solidify the position long term. Pat Jones II is absolutely my pick if we could get anyone on this list.

But anyway, who did I miss? Or where am I wrong?

Edit: and now Landry is on the PUP. Please Pats FA folks bring SOMEONE in

Discussion Time For The Retirement Brady Conversation?

Like what’s wrong with the guy? The Michael Rubin glazing, the WWE stuff, aggressively trying to sell his sports cards, and the fake beef with Logan Paul.. Is he doing this to make more Saudi money to eventually buy the Raiders? Is it a humiliation ceremony?

I know we compared him to Peyton during his playing days, but post retirement, I’d much rather our legendary QB take the route Manning has taken than Brady the past year or so.
