Discussion Where did gaming get lost in translation?

Honest question? Around what time did gaming start to lose itself. I’d old heads remember better than anyone. Well the really old heads remember the destruction of gaming when it came crashing down and Nintendo saved gaming. I feel like we are heading towards that again. The writing is on the wall.

No game is made a fresh idea, a soul or whatever.

I mean, if you all remember sitting infront of this game the very first time… and when you get into the castle… and stare at that sun sometime later when you learn to control the camera , small golden nuggets, fun 8-bit games propped into an open world, and a little bit collecting, 8 red coins, once on each level.

Enough, 40-50 hours of great joy.

Plug in and play. Enjoy. Someone actually thought about the game, music, flow, like they actually thought of ME when making this game and how it could make me happy.

What is happening to gaming today? Why is it so soulless, no heart, no fun.

PS5, awesome graphics and everyone, but it’s 99% chores and 1% games.

Golden 007, wave race, cruisin USA, ISS 64 deluxe, nba jam special edition, ganbare goemen 64(?), star fox 64, Star Wars shadows of the empire, and many more. Some groundbreaking, some wierd, some taking an initial concept and perfecting it, some really hard wierd ass game, and much much more.

At least it was passion in them.

What happened? When did it all go so wrong?

Image [Unsolved Zelda Mystery] This statue in the Castle Courtyard is probably a 64-bit render of a photograph of a real life statue, but no one has identified which. Can you?

So I was watching the recent video from the Majoran channel on YouTube, where I screencapped this from.

Basically, the statues in the Castle Courtyard in Ocarina of Time, are all 64-bit renders of photographs of real-life statues. Well, there's only one other statue in this area, actually, with two "pieces" to it.

One piece is a statue of Louis XIV found in Versailles, and the other pieces are of the Compagne de Diane found in the Louvre.

This raises only one question. What is the other statue? It sounds like the Zeldatubers and Texture Matching guys have looked pretty deeply, but no one has been able to find it.

Given the other statues are both located in famous French museums/places, it would make sense that the other statue is also somewhere in a French museum.

Another possibility is that these were all just found on an Asset CD-ROM Library from the 90's. In which case, the unknown statue doesn't necessarily have to be French. But in all likelihood, it would have appeared on a CD along with these other statues. Perhaps a Visual Disk or Sozaijiten.

Are you a bad enough dude to identify Ocarina of Time's mystery statue?

Hello, Im sharing those awesome N64 VR mods! RayRod TV is making some mods for 64 and retro fans games: Mario 64, Star Fox 64, Mario Kart 64, Sonic Robo Blast 2, Dr Robotnik racers... he puts lots of effort and care in making and sharing them. Usually they feature 4 view modes like first person and diorama modes. On the 64 ones, he did a awesome flip cam, where we see the flips and loops in first person seeing the world spins when doing a triple jump, got by a banana peel, or do barrel roll, for example. We can find his mods here: https://github.com/RaYRoD-TV and his Multiverse exploration and content creation game project here: rayrodtv.com. Have fun!

Tech Help Advice on budget friendly cable set-up.

My brother just gave me a N64 for my birthday, we immediately hooked it up via all the original cables it came with (RCA) and toyed around with it for a bit. I’m a complete amateur when it comes to this type of stuff but what’s the best “budget friendly” way to get the picture alittle crisper. I’d like to enjoy playing a lot of the older titles again with my kids and figured it’s worth a shot.

A quick google says s-video and a retrotink 2x pro.

Is this my best bet without going too crazy? Or is there a much better way to experience any better graphics on these newer flat screens without breaking the bank.
