I feel like I just remembered a few days ago to remember that I’m trans, which is why I’ve been yapping here a lot rn. I’m going to make a self indulgent, optimistic post, but I’m hoping that my catharsis helps someone here too.
I came out in 2016 when I was just turning 14. I’m 24 now basically. Been on T for 8 years, had keyhole 6 years ago. I had a very uniquely smooth transition, so I experienced teenagehood after T. I even almost got into the 2018 equivalent of the manosphere with all my friends. I was BUFF, and like, ginger for some reason idk it wasn’t a good look on me. I was cis with trans people and trans with cis people. I’m not complaining, I wouldn’t have changed a thing. But it IS unique.
Believe me this is the worst period of my life right now, for completely non trans-related reasons. That shit is all sorted and dealt with, but I remembered a few days ago that it didn’t used to be.
After unlearning all that toxic masculinity stuff, which was pretty easy to do after I was no longer 16, I’m exactly where I want to be. I shave basically everywhere bc I hate the feeling of body hair, I wear eyeliner, and I have somewhat feminine features. But like, I actually like them now. I don’t work out anymore like I did so I’m not weird and buff now (being buff is only weird on me), but my mannerisms are more masculine because I’m more confident. I’m so similar to all the boys in media that I loved as a kid but didn’t know why until I transitioned. I’m not a weird performance of masculinity to overcompensate for my insecurities. I love my voice, I love how it sounds now. I love how animated I am, I love how I act in videos. I love how androgynous I’ve slowly become. I love that I just like, KNOW I’m a guy now, so much so that nothing knocks that fact down anymore, and I can kinda just do what I want. I’ve been doing it for a few years, and with everything else going on, I feel like I got where I wanted to be without realizing. But that’s HUGE. That’s the effects of supported transitioning. It makes me see the ‘man’ as just, a given, just who I am. And the ‘trans’ part isn’t something I feel insecure about like I did when I was an asshole and 16. Really, I think my experiences have made me more insightful than I would’ve been. I used to ask my mom to take down all the photos of me pre transition. Now I love looking at that shit.
I’m friends with a lot of trans men, and now that I’m older, a lot of them have transitioned too. Some of them have got big beards and are car mechanics and stuff, and I fucking love that. I love that they are like that, and I am like this. I’ve crossdressed, and I looked like a girl. I looked great! I loved it, because it was a costume. The thought of doing that 8 years ago would’ve made me disgusted. But it feels SO different now. I can’t believe I can do that.
This is long. Maybe this is just for me, but I hope someone else sees it and keeps moving forward. I thought I’d never be the exact male gender I wanted to be, but I got there so naturally and subconsciously. That gender is in there, we all feel it, that’s why we transitioned. I’ve known people in much worse spots than me, with horrible parents that I’m not allowed around because they know, and I know, that I’d be a little shit. It makes me so mad to think of the trans people who have even more to deal with, if I ever kill someone it’s for that reason.
Idk, idk I just felt inclined to share a really meaningful realization I had. You’re not doomed if you’re trans. That’s something I’ve heard a lot, and felt. Just please, if you start on T as a younger teenager, stay away from manosphere podcasts PLEASE.
