Food, Shopping & Services HL Peninsula or Pearl Bay?
We’re planning a 20-person Chinese style banquet ideally in a private dining room. We’re choosing between HL Peninsula Castro Valley or Pearl Bay Fremont. HL Milpitas is booked for our preferred date.
Any experience doing banquet style meals at these locations and recommendations for one over the other based on overall dining experience, food, service, decor etc?
TIYA!!

Work & Housing Is there K-Shape economy in your social circles?
You probably have heard of the K-Shaped economy...wondering if you experience this first hand. In your social circles, are you see some people really struggle while others thriving? Or is your social circle homogenous and everyone is either struggling or thriving?

Scenes from the Bay Coast side camping sights near the bay area
So, I have been wanting to do a few little camping trips along the California coastline and was wondering if anyone had any insight on good cheep spots. It only be a single night thing, in my mind I'd just park make some dinner, enjoy the evening and pack up in the morning and leave. Either just cowboy camping or in the back of my car. I know there are some spots a lot further south in California but I'd really like to just be able to get out and have a differently paced evening without spending a ton of money or driving more than a couple hours each way. Does anyone know anywhere that kind of meets up with this criteria? Big note on it being cheep- I am broke =). Id consider just driving the coast till I find a decent turnout but I'd rather have a set destination. Also, pretty sure its illegal and not trying to piss off the CHP. Thank!

Events, Activities & Sports Looks like the World Cup gave Bay Area small businesses a real bump 👀
Was digging through some small business employment numbers from the World Cup, and from what I'm seeing it gave Bay Area small businesses a boost in the number of people clocking in for shifts as well as the number of places open. (I work for Homebase, and we make scheduling and time clock software for hourly teams, so we look at a lot of anonymized small business data.)
The number of people clocking in at small businesses across the SF Bay Area was up 6.9% year over year from June 11-21, the opening period of the Cup. Active small businesses ticked up too, a 2.4% gain over last year.
And it didn't just fizzle after kickoff. People clocking in stayed up around 6-8% through mid-July, and businesses open held steady around 2-3% up the whole way — so it cooled off a little from the opening stretch but stayed well above last year 📈
If you work at or own a small business, did that match up with what you saw? (Or for everyone else, did your usual spots seem busy? 😂)

Food, Shopping & Services Looking for an "Idea Store"
https://www.the-idea-store.org/
As the title says. There was a store in a town I moved from that had a collection of just about everything you could need to make something. All donated - including yarn, fabric, stamps, paint, random buttons and pins.
I want to know if there's a store similar to this. Not just any thrift store because of course you can sometimes find these things there, but they mainly sell clothes and home goods.

Food, Shopping & Services Where to buy NAS or server in-person, SF/Santa Rosa area
Hi all! Looking for a 4TB+ (preferably much bigger) NAS or Windows server (4TB+ RAID). I'm on a time crunch so ordering isn't really an option, are there stores in bigger cities that sell this kind of thing? I'm planning to call Best Buy and larger MSPs in the area, but any leads would be greatly appreciated :)
Traffic, Trains & Transit The SF Marathon is this weekend - here are the road closures to look out for:
The SF Marathon tends to take over major portions of the city to create space for the runners and their fans — meaning that the weekend of July 25-26 will be tricky for both drivers and pedestrians to move around the city, with the multiple road closures and reroutes.
The SF Marathon website breaks down which city streets will be closed for races at what time, along with some recommended detours.
There will be closures along The Embarcadero, Fisherman’s Wharf and in the Marina District. However, rest assured that vehicle traffic on the Golden Gate Bridge, which is on the route, will remain open in both directions throughout the marathon.
Many SF Muni lines will also be rerouted due to marathon weekend events.
You can follow SFMTA’s thorough guidance on its official advisory page, which will be the best place to find regular updates leading up to the event. SFMTA also has a page dedicated to Saturday events.
For more information, check out our full guide here.

Food, Shopping & Services Peanut Allergy Safe South East Asian Food?
Fellow peanut allergy sufferers - have any of you found safe south east asian food in the bay area? I've never had Thai or Vietnamese food for example, because the peanut cross contamination risk is so incredibly high and my allergy is quite severe.
But it looks so good! I would really like to try Thai and Vietnamese food! Any advice?

Work & Housing Bay Area homeless shelter shortage: Why more beds alone won’t solve homelessness
Our reporters Luis Melecio-Zambrano and Ethan Varian have the third part of their series examining homelessness in the Bay Area. It looks at the massive shelter shortage. About one-third of the homeless population is sheltered in the region and that's lower than most of big cities in the country.
Here are the other parts of the series
Part 1: One force sets the Bay Area’s homelessness crisis apart: rent
Part 2: Why homelessness hits Bay Area cities harder than suburbs

Work & Housing 33 8th at Trinity Place, 177 Market at Trinity Place safety
Hi all,
Are 33 8th at Trinity Place and/or 177 Market at Trinity Place in SF safe places to live as a female? I'll be walking home from the train in the late evening around 7pm and wanted to know if this would be safe. If anyone has lived here recently, it would be great to know your experience. Thanks!
