Hi all, I have a large monstera that may be suffering from root rot and is definitely in need of repotting. Are there any plant care specialists in the Bay Area that do house calls in Oakland?

Looking for postpartum support

Hello everyone, I’m not sure who this will reach but I am asking for support. I am (F) 21 years old and have an ALMOST 9 month old. I live in Oakland CA. I am CRAVING mommy + baby play dates. I mainly stay indoors and just go on walks around th block. I am dying to have an excuse to get out of the house. I would love for my son (8months) to play with other babies. It’s hard being a young mother. Most mothers around me are older WHICH IS FINE so long as they treat me as an equal. I am going through it just as you are. PLEASE do
reach out or point me in the direction of a moms group/postpartum group of some sort. BTW I’m currently a SAHM and have lots of time to plan playdates. (yes this is a cry for help)

EDIT: not specifically looking for moms around the same age, would love to have a playdate for babies around the same age!!!

Advice Oakland to SSF commute by ferry?

I will likely be taking a job in South City and am currently based in Oakland near lake Merritt. Looking for advice on others with the same or similar commute (Oakland to SSF). Do you like the ferry? Is it better than BART or BART + Caltrain? Does it make sense to move closer to work or is this doable?

Thanks in advance

Crime We thwarted some trash dumpers last night, with the help of OPD!

I was driving home with my daughter at about 10:15PM, exiting Hwy 13 onto Joaquin Miller Rd. At the series of stop signs there, a white pickup truck loaded overflowing with random garbage and furniture buzzed through the intersections without stopping, headed uphill.

I instantly knew that this guy was a dumper. I had my 16yo daughter in the car so I told her that if she wasn’t here, I would go follow them. But she encouraged me to go anyway, so we followed this truck to the top of Joaquin Miller Rd, where he got into the left turn lane (north onto Skyline Blvd, towards Roberts Park).

This is when we called the OPD non- emergency number. And they picked up one ring! Since I was also stopped at the light behind this truck, I could give fairly good details. White Ford F150 with payload sidewalls in the bed and stacked to the brim. I could only see part of the license plate because it was wrapped in Saran Wrap! But I relayed what I could. The operator said that she would try and send a patrol car.

The truck pulled over less than 100yards from the intersection, and we drove past really slowly to give them the full headlight treatment. But we couldn’t see anything in the cab.

We drove past and turned around about a quarter mile down the road. By the time we circled back, a woman had gotten out and was helping direct the truck to reverse down the path. So we called OPD non-emergency again, and they picked up quickly again! Different operator, but she said the she saw the report, and we told her that the truck was mid-dump. She said that they were sending someone.

I didn’t stick around to see what happened, but we went by the area today and there is no sign of dumped garbage, so I think that the dumpers were stopped. Props to OPD non-emergency line!

I’m glad my daughter was with me, and that she encouraged me to follow them. I think that having her with me kept me on the sensible path- just doing a drive by/call in rather than revving up for a confrontation.

Aside: Is there any way to look into OPD activity for any given day? I found this website, but each day only has 2-3 incidents logged, so I’m guessing it’s not well kept.

How are fitness classes at the YMCA?

Hello everyone. I’m considering switching to the Y to take advantage of group fitness classes since joining individual studios is waaaay outside of my budget. I’d love feedback on the quality of the classes to see if it’s worth switching from my $15/month at planet fitness. I’m specifically interested in Zumba, Yoga and mat Pilates but all insight is appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Housing UPDATE on prev post “negotiating rent, received 2.3% rent increase starting september”

i posted on here last time talking about how my rent increased 2.3% from $2600 to $2700 but other units are being marketed at $2500.

property management basically said they dont perform lease renewals/extensions and we automatically roll over on a month to month basis. they also said the owner declined to lower rent.

pretty ass, but i wonder what anyones take is on all that or to move to one of the units listed.

this is my first time going through all this and all advice welcome and appreciated
